  1. Would like to see that again. Used to spot them in my "in town" yard, way back when I first moved to Ipswich in 2001. They've been gone (from my yard) for at least 6 years. Maybe I'll do that trip in Feb. or March if we have a warm spell.
  2. I agree- this one really popped out. And compared to the pics I got, they are all winners LOL. Just getting used to bringing a camera.
  3. Two opposing views. Nothing new there LOL. It's all good and everyone is different, so I'm told.
  4. I found the document interesting and informative. It repeats much of what I've already heard in my travels, but is thorough and offers the paddle float replacing paddle method. I did have a little bit of difficulty with the motorcycle analogy since I don't ride. The paddle float method without paddle I've never worked on, so I suppose it is worth a try. I didn't do well with a paddle float on paddle and have avoided it altogether. I think you are correct in remembering the many steps, and especially focusing the torso as key. However for me it truly is a timing issue of remembering to put all the key elements together at the exact time. I don't seem able to muscle up, so I will need to keep working until I get it just right. Thanks Gene.
  5. Four lessons? I've had many, many lessons, a rolling clinic, numerous pool and lake sessons, etc. The good news is I know I'm a strong paddler despite this. But I won't give up. If you are referring to the clinic in Biddiford this Sat., see you there ;-)
  6. I'm a maybe, as I really enjoyed the opportunity to learn and test last year.
  7. No problem. I'm sorry but I think 9am may be a little early for us tomorrow. If we are up and change our mind, I'll send something before 7am. Otherwise, hope you guys have a great paddle.
  8. Interested for me and Hal B. I'd be interested in a half-day or shorter kind o thing. I've mostly been doing mini-paddles in my Plum Island/Cranes tromping grounds-- frequent but short. He wants me to experience off of Kings Beach, Lynn, and we'd be up for something you might suggest.
  9. Skin So Soft is the only thing to deter Greenheads. Apply often. They really aren't as nasty as usual this year, but there are a few out there-- Pavilion is one of their favorite spots. Bring back woods deet stuff for the midges if you come back at dusk.
  10. Due t the wet cool summer we have been having, they are much lighter than usual this year. The silver lining for Ipswich and marsh residents. Midges at dusk have been worse than usual, however, so beware if you plan to be in marsh areas after 5pm or so.
  11. Thanks for the info. This is for a meetup in NH to view fireworks. I didn't realize until this morning that NH requires a raised light on all water craft after dark. Nancy (also called Sandy)
  12. Could anyone suggest a light to be used for night kayaking that is reliable, long lasting and can be seen well by approaching craft, and where could I could get two in a hurry? Thanks, Hal & Sandy
  13. Thanks, everyone, for your input. I did the trade from the G10 housing to the Lumix TS1 and I'll let you know how I like it. I am definitely looking for ease of use on the water, and posting on the web more than professional enlarged printing, so I think it will meet my needs. I was told any camera with waterproof gaskets will need the gaskets replaced after a year or two of use, depending on how much you use it in cold/hot/extreme conditions. Since this camera captures HD video clips, it is a little perk that should be fun to try.
  14. I've been talked in to trading my Canon G10 waterproof housing (unused) for a Panasonic LUMIX DMC-TS1, which the sales person at Hunt's says is an excellent choice. Since it will cost me a few additional clams, please speak up now if anyone has any negative personal experience with this one. The fact that it is truly portable is huge for me. It is only waterproof to 10 ft., but that should meet my needs. It is the all-around "rugged" choice at Hunt's and boasts a Leica lens, plus superior video quality compared with some of its predecesors. Looking forward to trying it. Nancy
  15. Check out the kayak lasso system-- I think Harmony and several others make versions. Nancy
  16. Hi Anne, and Lucia, Been a bit busy lately but I also live in Ipswich and go on frequent short paddles in the area. Was hoping to coordinate with Anne after the Solstice Paddle last week, but just didn't have time yet and weather has been bad. But hopefully now things will be more like summer. Don't forget the Skin so soft for Greenhead season, though. Going down to Dighton today-- maybe later this week... Nancy
  17. I'd be interested to learn the details of what size you ended up using. I am sure you will tell us... (lol). Hope this time the fix holds....
  18. Thanks for clarification. It will probably be me, Hal B., and possibly my 15 year old daughter. She has been paddling for a few years, though usually she isn't out for long paddles. I think she should be fine, though. She has proper gear-- what kind of dress are you recommending if this is a typical summer day?
  19. Thanks. Hal B. and I plan to try to make this one.
  20. I might try to make this-- Father's Day, right? Where do you plan to put in?
  21. I love my Chebeague, too, as an all-around boat. I had no idea it could roll, but my daughter learned to use it when she was 12 or 13 and many a friend has taken it for a spin. I use it when I go solo, due to the light weight. It is worth every cent I paid for it ($1,500 used).
  22. Whoa. Something to do in/with my spare time. Thanks.
