  1. Sure wish I had known about this about two months ago (Beverly), as I just rented my place to a stranger I am already not thrilled with. It was on the NSPN Classifieds forever. Oh well, maybe next time. The boats would be a little awkward, but I am told you can rent a slip for fairly cheap money. That's what someone else does with her kayak who lives in the building. Good luck. Nancy
  2. Opps. Sorry. I've met very few of you and I'm terrible with names. But I do hope to get out and paddle with people more, as I know it's safer and will give me more opportunity to be less conservative in my choice of areas. Thanks for the interesting report.
  3. Just curious, Ross. How long did the trip take you? Nancy
  4. Would try to meet up for this, except that I just had gum surgery on Monday, so I don't think so this time. I am usually not available until 11:30 or later, due to work, but maybe next time...
  5. Sounds great. I was hoping to maybe spot a seal, as I have in the area before, but no such luck. As far as the Snowy Owl, I was just telling a friend recently that I saw several in my neighbor's yard and in a tree in my yard, when I first moved to Ipswich in summer of 2001. It was a beautiful thing, never to be repeated after that first year. Only wildlife for my paddle was a huge flock of birds that made a thunderous sound and one lone loon. And a couple of construction sights with men on roofs along Northridge Road. Sounds like you got to take in quite a bit more...
  6. Well please do... And yes, I would have liked to run in to you all.
  7. Well it was a Feb. thaw indeed today. I thought of going out as I made my deliveries up the Great Neck, but was soon to forget about it-- until I saw that several of you were meeting at Pavillion at 11:00am. Unfortunately it was noon by then, but I quickly threw on the dry suit that hadn't been used since the cold water workshop and headed up the Neck to put in at Pavillion. Made it up to Eagle Hill as the tide finished it's peak off the full moon flood. Met some icy floaters and had a leisurely paddle back as the tide started to scoot back out. The wind had been very mellow, but started to pick up to the north, just enough to make me have to work a little, upon my paddle back to the mouth. But it was a very sweet taste of spring for a short paddle, and hadn't seen the Sound so placid since at least September. Met a paddler packing up as I landed back at Pavillion. He had heard some paddlers near the Rowley River. I was hoping to run in to you, as I didn't want to go out by myself. But all in all it was a nice little winter paddle on a very pleasant and mild day. Nancy
  8. Thanx for the info Suz. Sorry I had to miss the workshop-- curriculum night at my daughter's school. Nancy
  9. I'm interested, depending on how weather plays out. Don't want to fight a lot of wind. 10:00am Sat. is my preference-- can't do Sunday.
  10. I was gonna say something-- I was interested in joining you, but couldn't get off work in time. I go off there a lot-- two hours before to two hours after high tide is the reasonable margin to portage from the little beach with picnic table. I thought you might notice when you got there it was already looking pretty low. You can put in in the private launch at the end (as you loop around the cottages-- beyond the sailing camp) and drive your car back to the street parking. I am told that pass stays full. Nancy
  11. I'm sorry I didn't check this last night. Definitely not going to make it by 10am. Hope you guys get out and enjoy. Nancy
  12. Yeah, it does seem kind of windy and brisk. I'd be up for it, and maybe Hal too, but I'm a bit of a wimp--so let us know if you think conditions are fair enough.
  13. I'll check it out. Thanks for your thoughts. I was just thinking about this again this morning because I do need a camera badly for some work-related stuff.
  14. Suz and Larry, thanks for the tips. Guess I need to get some tennis balls and hid them from my crazy dog.
  15. Yeah, the $3400 price tag is definitely overkill for me I'm afraid. I was using a Nikon 5700 CoolPix, but think I would definitely like the smaller format, just to get something that isn't a dinosaur. It is tough, though, because I know Nikon and Canon both offer some nicely priced DSRLs, and I wish I could get both a compact and an SRL. I need Raw format and manual override, which is why the Canon G9/10 are appealing. Also, the waterproof case sounds fun. Thanks for the info. Good luck mounting... Nancy
  16. No suggestions, but do you like it? I was looking at the G10 for an all-around flexible camera to shoot my art (for shows and website use, etc.), take recreational pics, and possibly get the waterproof housing for kayaking use. I know the G10 is based on the G9.
  17. This is off-topic, but I spoke to several of you at the workshop about my struggle with Thorasic Outlet Syndrome, which I've been trying to treat with exercises learned from a bout of Repetitive Strain (I had P.T. and O.T. about ten years ago). Obviously I should get an updated round of P.T (most likely), but a couple of you had suggestions which I never got the full gist of. If you see this and feel like sharing, I'd be most appreciative. You can email me here or nancysan at comcast dot net. Thanks much. Nancy
  18. If it is still on, maybe... Keep us posted which day.
  19. Yes, great clinic. I am just getting started in this cold water stuff, and it was a fantastic overview from two extremely knowledgeable instructors. The food and use of Liz's place... also great. Thank you all and hope to paddle more with you.
  20. Yeah, I'm getting that feeling there is a reason they add so much to the price of a suit with booties. I certainly already know what it feels like without, though not in the dead of winter. Thanks for the thoughts.
  21. Going for a two hour paddle (give or take) and would like company. Aiming for 1pm. I can check this until about 9:30am and then again just before I go. Also flexible for launch, a long as it's not too far from Ipswich.
  22. I would like to come to this event, but would need more on location. Sounds like it would be very informative. I just bought a Kokotat GRE drysuit with booties and am trying to decide whether to keep it or not. Got it at about $700, but think maybe I'd be fine with dry pants and top for what I do. Nancy
  23. Great. Thanks. Being an Ipswichite (?), Pavillion is one of my main haunts...
  24. Thanks. I should be able to figure it out now. Guess it helps to have the correct spelling, too. LOL
