I am looking to replace my aging PFD. Looking for one that would have pockets for radio and stuff, but not bulky (especially not on the back, so it won't snag on the gunnel while doing layback roll). Any suggestions/ recommendations? Thanks, V.

How tight should a spray skirt fit the cockpit of a kayak? I am asking, because my new sprayskirt (which I like a lot) has been a real pain to remove during practiced wet exits. It has a strap across for "emergency removal" which could not even get it removed as I was underwater and struggling to get free. It is the correct size for my kayak, but I am already thinking of getting a size larger. I am not comfortable knowing that the skirt would make it very tough for myself to detach from the kayak once in the water.

Some of you may be aware that there are storm water outfalls into Nahant Bay in Swampscott and Lynn. These have been the source of beach closures due to bacteria and are presumed by many to contribute to the stinky and messy algal blooms in the area. I just met a DCR employee on Kings Beach and she told me that Lynn is now treating their outfall - it no longer empties into the beach. This just started so it’s too soon to tell what the result will be but so far the algae problem seems a little better this year. Any way you look at it it’s good news for local users of the ocean!

I found a home for my old camera equipment. In the case was a cassette tape from NSPN activities: 2000 cold water test and 2001 end of summer. Does anyone have a way of playing this type of cassette? Might be fun ot look at. Liz

Once upon a time, we had an active group paddling the Woods Hole area. COVID and life dispersed it, but I'd like to put it together again. I emailed the 'former regulars' directly, but if anyone's interested, we just put up 4 Woods Hole trips on the AMC website for the second half of June. Whether you're an old hand at Middle Ground, or new to the area, there's bound to be something. Look for more to come, too, and if anyone's interested in something specific, let me know.

Planning to spend a week in Boothbay Harbor mid-June. Not having been there in 20 years, I expect things have changed. Would love to get peoples recommendations on best putins and trips both in Boothbay and within an hour drive. Last time we were there we launched from New Harbor and paddled out to Eastern Egg Rock - can't seem to find that boat ramp - is there still one there? Also looking for peoples thoughts on a nice restaurant to celebrate a special occassion. Open to others joining in on paddles if your in the area. Thanks in advance.

Anyone have a YouTube video or tips on how to tighten a P+H skeg line? Mainly, I'm looking for the proper knot(s) to tie. The line itself seems in decent shape, but that it's gotten stretched and now the skeg is partly deployed. I'm assuming I just need to tighten it up.

Any views on comparing Pilgrim LV and Valley Avocet LV? I have an Avocet LV and have found it to be a great boat. I tried the Pilgrim LV in the pool and was very impressed with its edging and rolling. It seems to me that it is easier to edge than the Avocet LV. Thanks, Sherry.

A NSPN'er was purchasing a consignment GL Kalleq paddle and asked if I had others. I told him I carry the SeglaGear Greenland Paddles and he suggested a NSPN demo opportunity if I was in the North Shore area. I'll be racing at the Blackburn but if anyone would like to do an afterwork paddle from Pavilion Beach in Ipswich I can bring along a the SeglaGear Showcase for anyone that wants to try any of the Greenland or Euroblade models. Drop me a line if you want to do a warm up paddle the evening before the Blackburn. See you on the water, Marshall Seddon The River Connection, Inc. 9 W. From the MASSBIRD list. Watch to the end, and you'll see the night heron dance. Dear all - While migrating warblers are the rockstars at this time, we also have an ecologically significant migration happening right under our noses - the alewife run. Some of you may have volunteered for the count at Mystic Valley. It took me a few seasons to be able to put together a short feature documenting this phenomenon. While the story is about the fish, the action scenes of birds hunting the fish were filmed with a special camera that can film at 1000 frames per second - basically slow the action by 40 times, which I hope is a visual treat. Most of these scenes lasted just a …
