  1. Okay, figured I had the direction wrong. My bad... Plus I missed some of the earlier posts, including one by you. Double bad....
  2. BTW our sighting was a mile or so going NE of Lanes Cove.
  3. Hey, Pintail and I just saw one of those this past Tuesday. He was like "what do you suppose that is Nancy.?" I was like, OMG, maybe we should go the other direction. But he must have had some idea it wasn't a shark. One other experience was a dorsal fin off King's Beach a few years ago, probably a porpoise I was told, but who knows. There were kids sailing and turtling their boats that day, so it couldn't have been a shark. But this past Tuesday Chris said the beast was a funny looking fish. He went right up and got a look. I got a pretty good look at the fin several times. Didn't know what to think.
  4. Joel has fixed several cables for me over the years at NESC. If he says he can't get to it soon, believe him (and don't leave the boat), but if you catch him during a slow period, he's pretty knowledgeable for basic stuff on a variety of boats. He doesn't overcharge, so that's a big plus.
  5. $70, two days at New England Small Craft got me a new cable in my North Shore Atlantic LV in July. Mine was gone...
  6. Hal and I are hoping to come. Might be my first time on the water this season (ridiculously late!), so hoping it's not going to be too, too many miles.
  7. David, I did used to take my camera quite a bit while practicing summer rolling in salt water -- probably usually had it in the day hatch if I thought about it ahead of time, but I know that camera saw many a damp day in it's case.... Based on other people's experiences with the Lumix, maybe just got a good one.
  8. I've had good luck with my Lumix TS1 for , let's see, 7 years (wow). I do take care of it, generally speaking, never used it under water much, and I bought mine with a nifty neoprene case which seemed pricy, but has perhaps kept it working all this time. It is definitely corroding and I will soon be in the market for a new camera too.
  9. Great trip report! Ah, yes, I used to go out in the winter months... that was a while ago. Maybe again some day.
  10. Hey everyone. What's a holiday party without tables of attractive dishes luring us to abandon from our normally abstaining behavior? Our party will begin Saturday, Dec. 7th at 6:00pm. We will begin with appetizers, followed by dinner, dessert, presentation of awards, games and concluding with the raffle. We are asking everyone to contribute a favorite dish to share with friends: be it appetizer, entree, or dessert. So that we don't end up with all desserts -- or worse, only salad! -- this is an attempt to coordinate the contributions. PLEASE RESPOND to this thread with your preference (APPETIZER, ENTREE, or DESSERT) so we can see how it's going, and get a rough head count. It is always fun to see what people look like in their street clothes. And the food has never disappointed yet. We are a foodie group of paddlers for sure. Hoping to see you there this year!!!
  11. Congrats Paula, think I met you looking at boats several years back. Way to go!
  12. Hi, Long time no see. I'd like to do this if all the stars align. Been checking out the area a little on my own this summer. Would be nice to get a pro's perspective. Nancy
  13. Do that NYC paddle around the Statue of Liberty.
  14. Very nice party, and the prettiest I can remember for NSPN. Just tried to upload a couple of pictures, and even thought they were all under 1mb, it would work. Oh well. Was really nice catching up and getting to know some new people.
  15. I like the North Shore or Doug's suggestion.
  16. Interested if I am in town. Not sure yet of my plans.
  17. I would like to bake a pumpkin pie, since I had no opportunity to do so for T-Day. Will bring one other type of food. Perhaps carrots and celery.
  18. I know that lady! Glad to hear it worked out.
