Of course we all know that....but it's kind of fun and exciting to be reminded. On Saturday, Dee and I were paddling off Cranes beach....maybe a quarter mile off shore maybe a bit less....when all of a sudden something broke the surface momentarily....it definitely wasn't a seal....just a flash and then it was gone. I thought maybe my eyes were playing tricks on me and that it may have been the sun glinting off the chop....but then .....up came a FIN??!!!! a big freaking fin. BIG....really big....but it didn't behave quite like you'd expect a predator to behave. The fin was moving about in a circle and kind of flopping from side to side. I was thinking maybe an ocean sunfish but I wasn't really sure how they behaved. Did I mention it was a BIG fin? Anyway.....we gave it some room and continued on....it was very spooky to see that fin come up out of the water. Once we returned to dry land we did some google research and we're pretty certain that what we saw was indeed a sunfish. Huge, harmless....but when you're at water level and not quite sure....it gets your heart pumping. A pretty cool experience.

If you haven't been rinsing the paddle thoroughly after each use...even just stored on your deck then I'm guessing that salt has built up...it doesn't take long....I'd suggest running water into the end with the button and working the button while it's being rinsed....you could also try soaking the shaft both halves...in warm water with a little dish soap....and then rinsing with fresh water ...Good luck.

aqua seal is pretty awesome....but don't get it on anything you don't want glued....including your hands. latex or nitrile gloves work fine

Well, it looks to me that if he had a skirt he would have made it work. Believe it or not I think I actually have a skirt for a pungo (don't ask....just take my word for it.)

Wow. Great story. I ran through a range of emotions reading it even though I gathered, from the wording of Barry's post, that the outcome would be a good one. Fortunately the searchers didn't try to "bend the map" (yes, I've just started reading a fascinating book called "The lost art of finding our way" maybe some of you have heard of it ) and try and make the original theory work. The take away for me is... Be mentally (and physically, of course) prepared for the possibilities, keep thinking, NEVER give up hope....and thank the Coast Guard for being out there.

Gary, you might also consider checking out Amigo's dry suit repair. Charlie Morris has experience working on Palm suits. I had sent my suit there a couple of years ago for new gaskets. Charlie called to tell me I had some de lamination and instead of repairing the suit he shipped my suit to a distributer who got me a replacement suit at no cost. I used a sharpie to write my contact info on the sticky side of some clear packing tape....then stuck another piece of tape to that ( sticky side to sticky side). Then a couple more strips to tape it to the bulkhead behind my seat. It's been there for at least 5 years and still perfectly legible.

Good thread. I have the same model and similar confusion. I do think that software called"blue chart" can be loaded and it's very detailed for our purposes.
