  1. there is only so much that Kokatat CAN move their parts...i inquired about a shorter inseam and was tol d that the only bit hey could do was to remove 2"...and that is because there is about that much space where the sock hit the leg....same thing with the arms...they can lengthen and shorten-but cannot move the gasket area....so if you need longer arms your gasket will end up above your wrist....but you wil have alonger overcuff... i went with Stohlquist who custom made legs for me...an XL suit with a 29" inseam.....they chopped the legs below the knees for me....and sewed them back on again....BEST fit drysuit i have ever worn... rob
  2. a heavier fabric i.e. NDK cag's material-while it might not be breathable is going to be a Heck-of-a-lot more comfortable than a sil-nylon non-breathable one.... the sil-nylon because it is literally one layer of nylon impregnated with a silicon layer will become VERY clammy and stick to you like tape...ugh... a heavier material-while still not breathable-will feel a lot more comforablte since there is usally a finish on the material that will absorb the moisture-that will make it not stick to much..... my experiences.....i sweat a good bit.....but still would not want a gore material cag.....not even the newest proshell material which is sweet! rob
  3. no problem....i do nto like the sil-nylon one....especially if you try to put it on when youa re slightly wet.....feels like a big condom.....eeeewwwwwwwwww..then add a little condensation....ugh.... a good cag is great to have...always lives in my day hatch..... rob
  4. I have an early Expedition Essentials one that i love....it is not the sil-nylon tone that the produce now....mine is a lot like the NDK one.....except that it was cheaper....might be worth giving sea kayak georgia a call to see if they have an older one on hand..... r
  5. thats why i said not certain....he had told me something about trapping a layer of water on the lens.....he has been on travel lately and i have not been able to follow up on that.... r
  6. ummm.....had not occured to me....was not going.... it might not be too well received....it is not a true sea kayak since there is only one hatch... also i think that Julian burned some bridges with boat designers when he left P&H....not completely certain about that tho.... but it is in the East Bay of RI anytime if anyone wants to play with it....jsut have to bring me a bot to paly in as well rob
  7. For those interested the review of the rockhopper is pending on paddling.net and npmb....but it is live on playak and also on boatertalk....... http://playak.com/kayaks.php?op=showreview&rid=236 rob
  8. i wear Barz perscription goggles....love em..... but i have this same problem.... option 1: rainx....works -eh....not great.... option 2: a thin coat of furniture polish is what some water photographers use on their lenses.... option 3: Onne Vanderwal mentioned that he uses toothpaste....not certain why but he said it worked on his camera lenses...... i just peer around the drops and then swipe them with the back of a thumb if i get a chance...... r
  9. My wife and i jsut got back froma week at Wolfe's Neck Farm's campground: Recompence....it is located in Freeport on Wolfe Neck (a peninsula just east of Freeport-it also happens to have the LL Bean paddling school on it too)... second year we have stayed and paddled there.....last year we went out and stayed on Bang's island....FRICKEN LOT OF MOSQUITOS!!!!!!!sickening amount of them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we did discover Whaleboat island....it is part of the Maine dept of parks and has one or two sites that you can stay on..... Whaleboat IS NOT a MITA island.... we joined MITA last year-a good thing....good group! rob
  10. i use a set of pvc ones i made up after finding them on the following site: http://www.sopsa.org/Article_Stand.htm simple....VERY stable.....the webbing cradles the boat holding it in place very nicely..... i did use 2" pvc to be certain that they would hold up my long boats as well as the surf boats.....cost about 25$ or so and about 30 minutes construction...... rob
  11. i know that there is a guy on paddling.net who offered up a set of Malone J cradels for 40$ iincludes shipping..... look in the advice section under the "t170 thule yakima malone" thread... http://www.paddling.net/message/showThread...vice&tid=652589

  18. The best thing-you do not feel like paddling high that day slap on the low angle blades....break a blade???get 1 new one for a whole lot less than a new paddle.... I know (for those interested) that Werner started offering up 4 piece paddles this year...i think just ww for now...have not seen one just read about them..... r
  19. i use surf baord pads with a malone vertical Stax (old style)-works great for the ww boat the surf boat (now passed on two days back) and long baots..... then i also have a malone gull wing....my lng boat usually goes there.... having the surf board pads...makes it so that i can carry any boat with a flat hull hull down on the roof....the surf boat went on its side due to the fins....the pads have enough give so that i can also put a boat with a slight vhull down flat as well.... anything with more of a v or more delicate goes on the gullwing....... oheyah..and i carry my paddles out side as well....still have a 1 piece lendal that is my fav...so that is up there too.... rob
  20. are you meaing the red rollers that had metal wires conecting them together that would then fold/stack up??? i have seen the review in a magazine but cannot for the life of me find it online... post on pnet and i am certain someone there has seen it... r
  21. In case anyone is interested: i found one of the Dana Designs HatTarp that i use in my emergency kit....it works as a tarp....a tent (with a paddle half)....and a bivy sack......more info: http://tinyurl.com/2br8lb ebay link: http://tinyurl.com/2qycv8 nice piece to have in your gear....... rob
  22. i am partial to Stohlquist..... i have the new bpod-t..not goretex but i do not believe that is is any worse for that....plus i find it MUCH more comfortable than a kokatat (or other drytop) suit..... rob
