  1. QUOTE(Kevin B @ Mar 19 2009, 08:34 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Rob, Are you open to Salem? Quite a few places at the moment that are available, both dog and kayak friendly. Hi Kevin: got an appointment to see a place in Salem on Boston st Saturday morning....trying to not go too southwest from Gloucester....but as long as i can get to 128 easily enough..... happen to have any phone numbers or classified ad links? Thanks guys!!! r
  2. Nancy- I saw your posting...but that the moment i was gainfully employed.....then i got laid off...and this new job fell into my lap....well not really fell..but it worked out..... i might have kayak housing at my s.o.'s grandparents house...see how that works... Thanks!
  3. Hey Nspn-ers! so a bit of an update on my situation...after driving around the Gloucester/Beverly area for about 5 hours on Monday i am focusing my search on Beverly.....it is a bit more inline with getting around on the train into Boston et al....the office i will be working out of is right at the end of the rotary on 128 (up in the biz park in the NOAA building) so easy access.... looked at a couple of big apartment complex things on Monday-ugh...have a couple of places to see on Sat....smaller than i had wished (both are 1 beds) but i can have the dogs there....boats..well..have to figure them out..................... Anyone know of friends who have places to rent in Bev? also hoping for a 6 month lease if possible....at the end of it I will probably have a better idea of exactly where i want to live... Thanks guys!!!!! rob Anya & Sammy too
  4. thanks for any help everyone!!!!! Bob: i know that Deb will just drop that bahiya on the roof of my Subaru with a "u owe me" note! good winds rob
  5. Hey all So....I am going to be leaving RI for a new job based in Gloucester. But, i know nothing about the area!!!! I am in need of a 2 bedroom, great dog allowable, homestead of sorts.....and if i can keep my Tempest and Rockhopper there too it would be great!!! With this move i swear i will become a paying member of NSPN after these few years of reading the forum... Any and all advice would be gratefully appreciated!!!! Rob Anya (Swedish Vallhund) & Sammy (Cardigan Welsh Corgi)
  6. got bones here in my hands...... can try my best to keep the rhythm going......
  7. Thanks Peter! i am going to pass this along around down here at work (RI Audubon) since most of us are on the RI Sea Turtle Disentanglement team.... Thanks rob
  8. i bit the bullet and got the Konydart Deck Slate shipping was quick and was a little less than a pound....good deal... but they were a bugger to put on! lost one due to installer (me) errors....tried to work the big bubbles out and tore then darn thing....so...i only have a right hand deck slate....which is fine...if i were going out and needed lots of notes i would bring a chart and have notes in there...so the deck slate is good for a couple notes.... but i like the idea of a light sanding and a pencil...better than a grease pencil whose daft tip keeps breaking of... r
  9. there are specific kayaking ones... there are ones that are specific to attach to the front/rear deck....racers pucnh a hole in their boat and have their hydration system inside the boat with a long tube....lots of options... i used to use a Lotus Designs EFT pack.....some info here (even thought they are out of them-as is every shop!) then got a kokatat pfd and switched over to their tributary system.... the Lotus EFT fits pretty much ANY pfd well....and if you want it i can sell it to ya...no bladder (cuz i licked mine) but the bag itself is good to go! their mango/salsa color...that which is in the pic above.... drop a line backside if you are interested.... rob
  10. umm...well i cannot speak to the bcu stuff... but Peter as a coach....he is a fun coach...very fair and true....i had never taken any course until i took my aca instructor classes....peter knew this and used this to my (and his) advantage since i was a blank slate before this.... during our month wait for the ICE he made certain that he was accessible for tips and hints for all of us as well.... would def. do another course with him.... r
  11. i have a wood stove that a member of the Westcoast paddlers forum made...folds flat... he designed it so that he could use it in their parks out there-very few places allof a open fire.... it is a great stove that is all stainless steel and packs flat..i have used it a bunch of times and love it... between that and my Kelly kettle i am all good!!! The Neufeld MKI Stove This stove is worth every Canadian penny of 50$CA..... r
  12. i got mine from http://www.Lynnsstuff.com mine was the first "commerical/production" one and i paid like 30$ for it... not a windblock one but it works very well since it is a heavier fleece..... a nice thing is the hood for just sitting around...as is having two pockets! (one inner and one outer) the inner one is great for the first layer that you put on after being wet....... i have taken mine out to use in the parking lot to change and then everyone on the trip has then asked if they could use it too....... btw: works great as a lightweight sleeping bag too! r
  13. i would recommend using a walking foot and also an OEM rolled hem foot for making your own.... walking food is necessary to get the fabric to feed easily since the bottom feet with just slip on the sil coating..... rolled hem foot just makes life easy!!!! good for SMALL hems.... for a hem bigger than 1/8th i would just make up my own edge binding by folding and creasing then folding again....then sew it flat...... there is lots of info to be found about sewing coated ripstop nylons here.... rob
  14. hmm..... lets try that again: here on Westcoastpaddler forum sorry....r
  15. Stoves....i carry a small kelly kettle.... and i also carry a Neufeld MK1 Woodburning Stove...... a paddler/kayak builder out in vancouver area makes them.... they fold flat....stainless steel....like the KK burns any dry material....LOVE it.... tell him i sent ya... r
  16. I am a fan of BARZ....available in the US through Murrays....love mine...rx'ed and strapped..... i have not really switched over to contacts and normal sunglasses while on the water yet....mebbe next year...or mebbe pkr instead........ r
  17. i am a firm believer of neoprene gaskets...maybe it is just that my neck fits them better....i am not certain....but i have the Stohlquist Swicx jacket and love them...and also have the pod-t that has the same neck and have not had any problems.....i used ot have Navarro tops til they died....and they had neo necks as well.... rob
  18. we have an old Magellan that has the quad helix antenna....it is a lower end model but has a better antenna than the patch ones you find now... also have the basic etrex..... i would rather bring the magellan..... the problem with both of these is that neither downloads very well....well we do not have the cables......plus i do not think that the magellan actually downloads anything... r
  19. i know that there are some in dover..........listed on the npmb.com forum.....
  20. There was up to 10 of us down in Little Compton surfing sunday afternoon....... Sam carl and hugh were all out intheir new Murky Waters surf boats..... and the rest of us in white water boats having a blast...... beaut day!!!!!!!!!!!!! r
  21. i have one of those too....i saw peter cassons vcp one and grabbed one of dales.... i also have a dana designs Hat-tarp....a tarp that has a 2 side zipper...fold it in half then zip two sides and you have a silnylon bivy sack..... r
  22. underneath i wear a IR union suit thick skin for cold....and an ir thin skin for warmer waters.... i also love their hybrid skin....it is a shirt that is fleece with long seeves...but at the bicep the fleece switches over to a thinner fleecey material so that your forearms are not as bulky..but still very warm! i also just got a pair of Lochsa fleece pants on ebay...nice...smooth outer finish..... r
  23. i like the EMS ones....work great... http://www.ems.com/catalog/product_detail_...D=1190999874106
  24. i like Sakonnet Point..... also looking for more fun and sights check out the south side of Aquidneck Island (the island that is made up of Portsmouth, Middletown, and Newport RI).... i like to pu in at first beach and head south/southwest...fun rock gardens...and you paddle past the mansions..... rob
