  1. It's not that I'm shy..I say with a sigh It's not that I won't give it a try It's not some lack of pluck It's simply that... If I had to rely on clever rhyme to make myself a buck I'd be so totally out of luck. In any case...10AM Sunday at Peirce sounds good to me. I'm planning on being there.
  2. I might be interested in a paddle from Pierce on Sunday...as long as I'm not going to be required to write a poem.
  3. The poll came right up when I clicked the posting
  4. Good point! I've done the marathon math as well and it's really shocking when you look at it from that perspective.
  5. Hi Suz, I've got a lasso lock with a built in combo lock. I'm expecting to be at the drysuit workshop. It'll have it in my truck if you want to borrow it.
  6. On the other hand...if she paddles 30 miles/day that would leave her 31-2/3 days to just lounge around.
  7. I haven't a clue what the caller's motivation might be but after what happened to your boat I'd say you're owed some good luck. I hope you're re-united with your paddle soon.
  8. John, thanks for sharing this information
  9. Before you start cutting you may want to give it a couple of treatments of 303 and a bit more stretching. All the gaskets should get a regular treatment of 303 to keep them from drying out and it also makes them a bit more supple. If it does get to the point where you feel you have to trim make sure that it is, in fact, a trim-able gasket.
  10. A saturday paddle isn't looking good for me right now.
  11. Change of plans. I won't be making it out to paddle tomorrow. Have fun.
  12. Sounds good Ross. I'll confirm one way or the other by tomorrow evening.
  13. I'd lean towards sticking around the area to paddle.
  14. I should be able to make it Saturday
  15. The kid may be risking being disowned and disinherited but he did the right thing by showing this important event to the world. I have to admit to being a skeptic when it comes to paranormal activity but the guy in the kayak was almost certainly channelling the spirit of Lucille Ball.
  16. I'm interested. I'll know for sure closer to the weekend.
  17. That spot is just downstream of the route 1 bridge and looks to be very near the coast guard station
  18. The high tide in newburyport that day was predicted to be about a 1/2 hour later than at the mouth.
  19. I've lived in the area long enough and paddled on the Merrimack often enough (I've still never been through the mouth) to treat the river with a great deal of respect in any season. Thanks for adding some additional food for thought.
  20. Of course!!! that was you I saw sitting in the parking lot when I drove through to check what it looked like outside the mouth. I didn't recognize the vehicle and I couldn't see inside. The fact that the tide would be strongest 5 hours into the ebb would seem to defy the rule of twelfths....but that is just a rule of thumb. Having the river rougher than the open ocean was certainly opposite of what I would expect too. Possibly the wind, working against the broad (relatively) shallow bowl that is the lower Merrimack, coupled with the confused currents in that area? Does anyone have some insight to offer? Happy New Year!
  21. You're welcome Les and Betty. (Cheers! to girls with simple needs.) Thanks to everyone who showed up for making it a great day on the water. Thanks for thinking of us Peter. The lower Merrimack does get churned up on days like that and the ocean itself did look quite a bit calmer. But a good time was had by all.
  22. www.saltwatertides.com is also a good site.
  23. Directions to the put-in: Rte 95 to exit 58A ( rte 110 east) follow rte 110 approximately 2 miles to the intersection of rte 1. Take a left onto rte 1 N stay on rte 1 north for about 300 yrds then take a right onto Rte 1A (beach road). Follow beach road for about 2 miles and there will be a large sign at the entrance of the Salisbury Beach State Reservation...take a right and follow the road past a small rotary and the park entrance building (no entrance fee in the winter) Continue about 3/8 of a mile and take a right onto the campground entrance road. Follow the perimeter road about 3/8 mile and the boatramp entrance will be on the right. The ramp is large and paved. You can drive down to unload boats and gear then park in the lot.
