Sandy Bay, Rockport Wet and Dry Salvages: Cancelled
mhabich replied to Bolonsky Adam's topic in Past Trips
No need to explain tandem tows. We’re well trained and practiced. If you’re talking about towing at the beach briefing, your plan’s wrong. -

That’s not how we do things around here, Adam. If conditions deteriorate and a paddler needs help, we provide it. -
Previous discussion: Searching the forums is always a good place to start.

Wednesday Lunch Paddle NH Edition Ft Stark 8/21/24
mhabich replied to prudenceb's topic in Past Trips
You’d have to drive past BG’s and the Ice House on the way home. -
Come join us at Chebacco Lake in Hamilton on Thursdays at 5pm until sunset though the summer. Practice strokes, rolls, rescues, falling out of your boat, or just watching kingfishers. Dress for immersion. A wetsuit is warm enough in early season, and keeps down the bruises from climbing back into your boat ten times a night. We meet at the boat ramp at the south end of the lake, and hang out in the cove to the left of the ramp. You can either get off 128 at Pine st (exit 49) and head north, or find Chebacco road off Rt 22 in Essex. No entrance fees.

NOAA Custom Chart 2.0 released (now 3.0)
mhabich replied to mhabich's topic in General Message Board
Good morning, Thank you for your feedback on the NOAA Custom Chart web application. We are still working on converting the ENC symbology to paper chart symbology. Place names, like island names, still behave as they do on an electronic chart display system, where users can click on a feature to see attributes (like object names). Whenever there are a lot of features in an area, place names are one of the first labels to be eliminated. Right now, we are prioritizing adding labels to regulated areas that have CFR references, but place names (as well as all chart features) will eventually be converted to the paper chart symbol/label. We are also working with the software provider to improve the way the system labels features, giving us control of how the system prioritizes labels and how the label is placed. They are working to provide us the ability to place labels that follow features (like single-line rivers and recommended tracks), multiple options for placement of the label (to prevent ATON labels from overlapping hazards), as well as other improvements. As for land elevation and road data, the NCC does not show land contours or roads because the data was not collected on the ENC. NOAA plans to add this data to the ENCs eventually, once our gridding (aka rescheming) project is complete. However, this will likely take years. However, we are considering adding topo and roads into the NCC as an additional layer once we can build up a data service for the information. -- Sincerely, Christie Ence, Cartographer Chart Standards Group Marine Chart Division | NOAA Office of Coast Survey -

NOAA Custom Chart 2.0 released (now 3.0)
mhabich replied to mhabich's topic in General Message Board
3.0 now released. Better symbology, much more like a paper chart, can put compass roses anywhere. Still no land topography, islands not well labeled. I'll ask them, but the feedback form isn't working now. -
Nate has these in stock too, and he's close: http://www.pinnipedkayak.com/gear That is the standard kayak compass. Notes on the Kayak Academy listing are spot on. Carbon kevlar is composite. The larger pilot hole is because composite is harder than rotomolded polyethylene.

For once, it's raining all week except Thursday evening. I'll be there, with vegetables.
