  1. I have enjoyed my immersion research shockwave skirt. It's made of thick neoprene and is super durable. My wife uses a snap dragon which she has enjoyed however I have had others tell me/show the snapdragon skirts don't last long, they tend to wear in the back quite a bit.
  2. Hey Folks, Now that the water temperatures seem to be on a incline I'm in the market for a drytop/splashtop for both Kelsey and myself. I'd prefer short sleeve. The kokatat trinity looks nice but expensive, which doesn't take it off the list but want to see what you guys think of it. Jonathan
  3. Hi Folk, Just wanted to check in and see if anyone else is interested in this program, so far participation is a bit on the lower side and I hope we can get a few more people to join in. I know this might be a haul for some of you but I promise this will be a fun and educational day on the water. If you are interested please let me know asap as I will be sending out final details in the next few day. Jonathan
  4. Liz, Both my wife and I will be attending. Thank you for planing this, looks to be a great trip. Jonathan
  5. Jason, If this is still on Kelsey and I are certainly interested. Keep us posted. Jonathan
  6. My wife and I are both interested in this trip, please keep us posted.
  7. Just wanted to add more follow up information for those who might be interested. The trip is now June 18th and is no longer tentative. All skill levels are highly encouraged to join. Our plan is to setup two groups. If you are not comfortable with rescues in a intense environment your are still encouraged to join as one group will start out in a very sheltered environment to work on getting more comfortable. I also know for some of you this might be a long drive, we are planning on renting a campsite within the Jamestown area on Saturday, those interested in staying overnight the night before please let me know. This could be a fantastic opportunity for those who want to work on incident management and the more people involved the more fun we can have!
  8. Rob/Prudence, In an effort to promote participation in both the cam training and this this training I will change the date to Sunday JUNE 18th.
  9. Rob, If there were enough people interested I will change the date to encourage participation.
  10. Evening, I have had the pleasure of paddling with some of you all either in symposiums or meeting somewhere along the way. For those of you who I have not met or spoke with previously my wife and I are both young and enthusiastic sea kayakers who are working towards our four star. We are currently trying to come up with a group who would like to spend a day at Fort Wetherill in Rhode Island practicing some rough water/ deep water rescues. The idea would be to meet at 9:00am in the parking lot for morning briefing and coffee. From there we will launch and paddle out of the cove and into the first rock feature at the mouth of the cove and work on all types of incident management such as towing, swimmer rescue in rough water, rough water rolling practice and whatever else we can fit in. If the group feels comfortable we can move to some of the larger features that surround this playground. If the opportunity presents itself we can have some fun in the rocks and scrape off some gelcoat or plastic depending on your flavor. This will not be a coached event but more everyone getting together to work with each other, work on technique and bounce ideas off one another. If some were interested I'd like to assign rolls so everything won't feel too scripted and we can have some fun surprises along the way. The beauty of this area for those who haven't paddled here, there is not only some super dynamic features but the area offers the ability to paddle back to the launch for breaks and lunch which only takes about five minutes. I expect we will all be off the water around 3:00pm and can find a local place to eat at and have a drink. Please keep in mind the water might still be semi-chilly at this time so I would still recommend donning our drysuits as everyone will most likely swim at one point or another. Those who are interested please feel free to write back here with questions, comments or concerns. Tentative Date is June 10th, however I am open to suggestions on different dates.
  11. Prudence you know already Via email but Kelsey and I are in! Looking forward to it!
  12. My helmet of choice is the Gath Gedi. It has vents but can also be blocked in the winter for the extra warmth. The brim is flexible and removable. Additionally the back of the helmet adds quite a bit of protection to the back of the head. Jonathan
  13. There are a few great places to test paddle boats, this depends on where you live however. If you want to try a Lincoln or Skuk/NDK see Michael at Newbury C&K. For P&H there is Carl Ladd in Westport MA or John Carmody in Booth Bay ME. Also for SKUK there is Maine Island Kayak Company in Portland ME or Greg P. in Maine. It it sounds like the right boat for you based off weight and height (same size as my wife) is a Cetus LV from P&H. We personally own the Cetus LV and I paddle a Aries 150, but the Aries would not be the boat for you. Cetus is perfect for long trips and ocean paddling. You really need to paddle boats before buying especially when spending thousands of dollars on a boat. I once fell in love with a North Shore Ocean 17 before paddling it. Once I paddled it for a hour it was not for me and bought a Aries instead. I would cancel the Prana and paddle every boat you can before buying.
  14. Terese, need some back information first to give you more informed info. You mentioned you ordered a Prana. Were you at the paddling show? Have you test paddled this boat. If the answer to test paddling is a no then I would cancel. While I'm biased towards P&H and would suggest a Cetus LV right away I again have some questions to qualify answer. What is your paddling experience? What type of water do you typically paddle? Where are You located? Budget?
  15. As a sea kayaker under 30 (24) to be exact there are fewer of us. I had this conversation recently with John Carmody. I believe we have to find some way to get more young people involved in the sport. My wife and I have been lucky to have some great instructors/coaches that have Been willing to share their vast knowledge with us. We are currently trying to figure ways to get more people in our age group involved.
  16. Yesterday I decided to take block of foam I had for the roof rack and put it in front of a block of 3 inch mini cell I ordered online. Surprisingly the foam roof block is supper comfortable the Engels feels great on my ankles and because it's v'd it gives me plenty of room to stretch.
  17. Judging my car is back from the auto body shop as promised I will be there as well
  18. I'm trying to find mini cell foam to foam out my bulkhead and remove the foot pegs. Anyone know where I can find mini cell foam locally? I live in Billerica.
  19. Scratch that thundering here in Billerica
  20. Weather is pretty clear here might still try to make it. Just clouds here
  21. Anyone coming tomorrow? My wife and I would like to go if there are others coming.
  22. Anyone going this week? My wife would like to join in as well. Haven't had much time to play with my new Aries 150
