  1. I will be attending my first Walden Wednesday this week! Excited to meet you all!
  2. After cruising around a bit yesterday and checking out the water near Hampton and Seabrook I'm seeing this might be one of my better options. Anyone have any suggestions about this area? Looks like a helmet might be a worthwhile investment any suggestions on that front?
  3. Josko: I would be happy to join in but unfortunately I am Only off on Sunday's and Monday's "/
  4. David, I really like the Marine Weather APP by The Weather Channel. Very friendly interface that you can get water tempts, tide perdictions, buoy reports and radar. It's become my primary weather app for day to day use and for paddling.
  5. Pru, I'm on it, going to pay my dues tonight or tommorow morning! Looking forward to getting to know you all. BR: As far as my experience goes, as stated above I've been paddling the Hudson the past 3 years. Marshall from The River Connection has coached me on rescues/safety. My cowboy reentry is very solid and has been secessful in rather rough conditions. Solid with bracing and edging. My roll still has much to be desired but as I have been paddling solo since my wife has been injured I haven't been practicing. I enjoy rough conditions just haven't done any coastal waters. Done some surfing but it's mostly off the ocean barges coming up the Hudson. Out of curiosity where are you in Tewksbury? Living in Tewskbury for a few weeks till my apartment is ready. Id like to take you up on your offer of meeting up on land or water!
  6. Hey everyone so moving to Billerica MA this week and looking for some good spots to paddle. I'm Mostly paddling solo so not looking for any coastal water (unless you want to meetup). I also am interested in checking out the water in NH. Any recommendations? Just for reference I have been paddling 3 years now, mostly in the Hudson in a P&H Scorpio MV.
  7. A link to the video mentioned above http://www.rapidmedia.com/kayaking/categories/video/5508-video-what-to-put-in-your-dry-hatch.html
  8. With Leon Somme's new video on what he keeps in his day hatch I took a look inside my kit to compare notes and wonder what everyone else's setups here is? In my day hatch I keep dry bag with a first aid kit in it, which includes bandages, medical tape, liquid stiches, acetaminophen, and mole skins. I also care a small Philips screwdriver, three Allen wrenches (one for my lendal paddle and two for my p&h scorpios skeg controller and deck line fittings) a roll of gorilla tape and a platypus gravity filter. Finally I keep sunblock, some snacks and a space blanket.
  9. Hey everyone my wife and I are moving up to Portland ME in August and we're looking for a place to store our kayaks. We are moving to an apartment and seems that none of them have garage space. If anyone has or knows of anyplace where we can store we will be eternally greatful.
  10. Leon, I just can't tell you how often I see it on the Hudson and it terrifies me. Being a local I always suggest people take a class with Marshall at the river connection. They don't call it the mighty Hudson for nothing. As a young guy with young friends who want to paddle with my wife and I my rule is no pfd find someone else to paddle with. Sorry but I just take safety serious in any water especially the Hudson.
  11. Being from just a hour away from the scene of the crime and being local to where they lived, we have been hearing a lot about this in the news. Some local kayakers have made bold statements and claims about the type of kayaks and how this happened, some even claimed the kayaks they were in were white water boats, from the pictures supplied by local newspapers they appear to be pelican brand kayaks both s.o.t. Personally I'm so tried of this story, it's a lot of people again making bold claims that really just don't make sense. Apparently a person has come forward saying she saw them from her home on the Hudson via a telescope. She was shocked to see kayakers on the river in those conditions with minimal clothing. I don't doubt that she's guilty but I want the papers to stop writing things and taking statements that don't make sense and claiming that both were skilled kayakers. In the photo at the top of the article you can clearly see she is in a kayak with no pfd and the paddle upside down, not something a seasoned kayaker would do. Just saying.
  12. Hey everyone just want to make sure those who got back to me with a address also received their sample.
  13. Best rule of thumb. The best PFD is the one that you will wear. But if you really care what I'm wearing on the water it's a Stohlquist rocker. What I like: it's low profile, compact and has little storage (I like being a minimalist). What I don't like: can ride up, not a rescue vest, minimal storage (had to get creative with my rescue knife, no room for vhf). All in all a great vest but I am thinking about picking up a astral sea wolf
  14. I think someone touched on the topic the other day of the missing kayaker in the Hudson River who was not wearing a p.f.d. Seems the story took a turn for the worse and may not have just been operator error. It appears his fiance who was kayaking with him at the time has been charged in his murder! Heres the link: http://www.poughkeepsiejournal.com/story/news/local/2015/04/30/missing-kayaker-fiancee-charged/26671423/
  15. Wow! Was not expecting such a response! Okay so heres the deal, I will email you all shortly to receive a proper mailing address. On Tuesday my wife and I will be making a batch of soup for you all to try. As stated in my previous message we are just starting out so we are not nescessarily a "business" more of a hobby for now. We will also ask for anyone who tries the product to email back a short questioner so we can further improve on our dehydrated foods. If anyone is interested we also have three bean chili and trail mix.
  16. Pru, My wife and I are starting a small company making dried food, I'd be happy to send you a sample of our Farro and Roasted Vegetable Soup. Making dried soup is actually pretty easy. If you have a dehydrator all you do is make a soup base, so make any soup but add just enough liquid to cook the vegetable. Then just spread it on the dehydrator trays.
  17. As Johnysmoke said the alchemy is a great little kayak that's ultra capable. And there is one for sale in the classified section, psst it's my alchemy that's for sale. Not trying to make a sale but it's worth a look..
