  1. Congratulations!! Great job both of you, I can't wait to see what adventures you cook up next!
  2. I just slap a coat of West system epoxy on every year on the worn spots, and the epoxy seems to resist wear better than the fiberglass did.
  3. Pru, What an amazing journey, and once again, what a wonderful account of it. I have to say I am so impressed at your ability to get fantastic pictures during what was not an easy trip or exactly ideal circumstances, to say the least! Thanks so much for taking us along, to a very magical place. Beth
  4. I'm planning to be there as well! Beth
  5. Congratulations! That didn't take long!
  6. I'm a definite maybe for this event, I'll be in NY for my niece's graduation, so I may not be back in time...
  7. I got the adjustable size rental model that REI sells (i think it's made by NRS but i'm not sure) I like the adjustability because I like to be able to wear something under it, or not, as temps dictate, and I like to be able to change what i'm wearing easily during the day.
  8. Wow, I must get my plastic boat fixed... :0 Sounds like a great day!
  9. Janice, so sorry about your accident, and I'm glad you are OK! About cars... As a short person, I strongly prefer a car with a low roof height; even a few inches makes a big difference for me in loading ease. I don't want to bother w/ complicated contraptions or systems, I just want to be able to shove the boat on and go. Otherwise I agree w/ the above, however I have to say that my city parking friendly Honda Fit Sport is actually working out fine, although I'd prefer a slightly longer bar spread, I haven't had any problems. It has tons of room in the back for gear, and is easy to load and unload. Whatever you get, definitely get a hatchback!
  10. I am definitely in; 10 to 4 works for me!
  11. What do you think it would be like to be camped out in the outer harbor? Would this even be permitted? I'm not sure which islands allow camping, and I'm sure plenty of others would be planning the same thing... but still, it would be very wonderful to be there when they arrive... David, do you know what the regs were/are about going out there the day of or the day before? If we had a pod that stuck together, it would be less daunting perhaps than just being one or two surrounded by a horde. How far out/ where are boats allowed to go on the day of?
  12. I think this is a good idea, get good small used boat. He'll have a lot more fun in it than in a "kids" boat, and it will hold it's value. Any good low volume sea touring kayak will be fine, preferably one with a skeg since he is light and will be more affected by the wind. Look on paddling.net, they often have good users for sale in the classified section. If the seat is too big for him it can easily be padded out to fit.
  13. Sounds like a wonderful and masterfully planned trip! I look forward to my second visit up there this summer
  14. I have always wanted to go out to one of the Harbor Islands, camp out overnight, and watch the tall ships come in. Or maybe just launch early and paddle out to meet them. Has anyone done this in the past? Any comments, thoughts, interest? http://www.sailboston.com I know, they parade around the harbor when they get here, but that's nowhere near like seeing them underway!
  15. I am planning to come, this is always so much fun!
  16. I apologize for the last minute notice, but I won't be able to make it today, so if someone wants to jump in and grab my spot for today go ahead! Beth
  17. I have house guests that weekend, but if at all possible I will join you, this is always fun!
  18. I love this idea! And Leon, those are some mighty fine fish you caught! I'm impressed. I don't have a clue about fishing, but I'd like to learn, and I'm happy to help w/ cleaning, cooking, and eating them.
  19. Hi Rob; Well the Women Outdoors folks are very interested; in fact I was asked if they got together a group of six women, would you be willing to do an all-woman's class as well? Let me know if this would work for you; if yes then we can post it under the "all women" section of the event listings with a link to you. Either way, I am sure you will get a bunch of interested folks contacting you. Thanks again for doing this! Beth
  20. Great, I will pass it along, and tell those interested to contact you directly. Wonderful that you are doing this!
  21. Your trip reports always inspire, and this one especially so. Definitely on my bucket list! Thanks for taking us along.
  22. This is truly an amazing opportunity! Rob with your permission I would like to pass along this information to the outing club Women Outdoors https://www.womenoutdoors.org/greaterbostonarea which I am also a member of. Some of their membership are beginning/intermediate kayakers and may be interested. How many students are you looking for?
