  1. John, I have the following knife, Kayak Rescue Knife, if I was to get another one I would get the same knife. -Jason
  2. I would also like to put my vote in for the Kotatat GMER. I wish that I purchased mine a year earlier, I made the mistake of attempting the dry top over wet suit route first. Kokatat even extended the dry suit to allow it to fit me. If need a custom size it will take a few weeks extra to order. -Jason
  3. Someone posted that the C-Lights tend to die when using normal batteries and not vented from time to time. We were also told that lithium batteries will not only not have the off gassing issue but will last longer if they are needed. -Jason
  4. If you need the weight please bring it in the form of dry cloths, food, drink, repair kits etc. Lead shot is of very little value on the water. Please keep in mind that lead smaller than 1/2 ounce is ill-legal in most (all?) NE states. Adding 50LB's of safety gear is an asset, 50LB's of lead is of not value when stuff hits the fan. It's just something that has to be lugged and a environmental hazard. If you must install lead in your boat please install float bags. -Jason
  5. I can't speak for the boat, but I would say that "25 lbs of lead ballast" isn't a good practice. If you must do ballast I would suggest jugs of water or something else that can float or at least not take the boat to the bottom. -Jason
  6. This is a picture of the locaiton on google maps: View of launch location from Google Maps. You will see that you good past the school and the field. The parking is at the end by the water. It's a nice launch site just a bit of a drive. (For me, I think that it's faster to launch from City point then to paddle to Windmill point than to do the drive). Depending on the currents you can run into some standing waves near the launch. -Jason
  7. A: What browser are you using. B: Use code such as this. test@testdomain.com Please swap the { for [ brackets etc. {email}test@testdomain.com{/email} C: Not sure yet D: Just reading about Kayak stuff that's on the boards. If it's creepy it shouldn't be posted.

  11. Nice article I like the following line the best: 'I think the best way to train is adopting the "Capsize Every Trip" philosophy.' I also like his idea if practice missing a roll and doing the 2nd and 3rd attempt. -Jason
  12. On June 29th at 3:30 am, Westport Osprey Sea Kayak Adventures was set on fire by arsonists. Although the Fire Department arrived quickly and managed to save the buildings infrastructure, the boats that were stored behind the building sustained irrevocable damage. OSKA lost 52 boats due to the fire, and we soon realized that insurance would not cover the loss. As a result, friends and family of the business have come together to organize an event to benefit the business and keep it floating. We would like to invite you to join us on August 12th for: The Roll Up and Rebuild Barbeque Sunday August 12th starting at 5pm at the Head of Westport Town Landing behind Osprey Sea Kayak Adventures Barbeque by Smoke n' Pickles Live music performed by Zuma featuring a raffle and silent auction with such amazing prizes as: A brand new kayak Celtics tickets paddling gear artwork gift certificates to local restaurants and much much more! Tickets are $25 for adults or $5 for children under 10 years old Stop by the kayak shop 489 Old County Road, Westport, MA 02790 or call (508) 636 0300 for more information or to purchase tickets If you are unable to attend, but would still like to help out, checks can be made payable to "Refloat Osprey Fund" the poster for the event is attached. We hope to see you and your family on the 12th for some fun and to help support a local small business and its owners Carl & Samantha Ladd, -- friends and family of Osprey Sea Kayak Adventures
  13. Walden is open for swimming again. I called Walden today (978 369-3254) to find that they are open for swimming again. I went down after work Wed I found that the bacteria was to high and Walden was closed for swimming/rolling. It has been opened again today pending thunderstorms. -Jason
  14. Kevin, What's the parking situation? Also do you have a street address or a landmark around the launch location, as this will be a new location for me. Thanks -Jason
  15. Gerry's boats are way to nice to put in the Water and smash on the rocks. I think that my Cetus will be Fiberglass to allow for easier repairs. I love my Shadow but it's just too small and doesn't handle the rocks with the hard chines. The new skeg will also be very nice. I can't wait, I hope that P&H get a bunch of molds going on the current Cetus. As once they get caught up they can work on the LV and HV model, it would be nice to have under the tree this year..... -Jason
  16. Suz, Can you think of a better Christmas present than a Cetus HV (Yellow over white), I know that I wouldn't mind finding one under my tree (assuming that I fit it). BTW my better half liked the looks of "Glitter Girl" it's the first boat that she had any interest in. If there any place to see the options such as "Glitter Girl" The 2007 P&H Brochure doesn't provide any examples, all it had is: " Custom Graphics [2] Do you want to stand out from the crowd? We can even finish you’re P&H custom sea kayak with colour blends, glitter or bespoke designs depending on its complexity. " -Jason
  17. The montauk is still available currently going for 1K. -Jason
  18. Ernie, How will you do repairs with the clear hull? -Jason
  19. I am looking for a new VHF as my M1V is on the way back to ICOM again. I am looking at the ICOM M72, as the IPX8 appeals to me along with the thinner form factor (About the same size as my M1V). Does anybody have one and if so how is it holding up? What are your thoughts about the radio and would you purchase it again? If nobody has anything good to say about the M72, I might just go with the M88 as it's a known quantity. Thanks -Jason
  20. >We're there. Bob will be in the Pintail -- I think -- unless >I'm in the Pintail and he's in the Tempest (that'll be the >day). > >Poor Bluetooth took a nose dive off the car Friday while I >was removing her. I now know what Welsh Fibreglass looks >like. Luckily, she's gone to hospital for some plastic >surgery, Dr. Ladd in RI operating. > >Therefore, the infamous Pinkster may put in an appearance, >unless I take the Vela out for one last goodbye spin before >she goes up for sale. > >I take it 10:30 is butt in boats time. > >Deb M (who's bereft) Sorry about "Bluetooth", I am sure that the repairs will be as good as new. As for the boat for the trip, I would love to see the Vela out for one last trip. -Jason
  21. Heidi, The HV explorer was close to a fit but still to small. I think that it's a boat that you should give a test run. -Jason
  22. I liked the Euro version of the roll. -Jason
  23. Thanks for another great trip report. BTW The bridge/locks people monitor VHF channel 13. -Jason
