Thanks for the review, I will have to try one once they release the HV model. The issues you are having with tracking scare me a little. As you learn more about the boat please keep us posted. Thanks -Jason

Are you ready to post a review of the boat? What's your thought of the 4th hatch? Thanks -Jason

What's best, cold or heat lamination?
jason replied to Kevin B (RPS Coach)'s topic in General Message Board
I picked-up a heat laminator on Ebay for ~$50 it takes 11"x17" without an issue. As for the process I found that you if set the head to ~275F and run it though in the carrier once it works well. It seems that if you put them though more than once the charts have issues. There might be a heat activated glue on the laminate covers or something. -Jason -
I need to figure out how to get that much rotation. I have to say that was great video. -Jason

Rick why did they get rid of *CG? Assuming that VHF isn't an option. How will someone get a hold of the CG, if they don't know the number of the local CG should they call the state police instead *SP (*77)? Thanks -Jason

Trip Leader Training information for May 19th/20th
jason replied to Kevin B (RPS Coach)'s topic in General Message Board
Please keep in mind that there will be classroom time each day and a written test. The current plan is the classroom time will be in the AM each day. This may change to allow us be on the water when the weather is better. Please bring pen and paper or anything else that you may need for the classroom. Thanks -Jason -
It looks like I have option #4 to think about. Deb, I will have to take a look at your boats this weekend. Thanks -Jason

I am planning out my next boat, and I was wondering if anybody had opinions on this Keel strips. I have the option of: [li]1. No keel strip [li]2. Glass keel strip [li]3. Kevlar keel strip. I am leaning to get a keel strip as I would like to protect the boat. Weight aside is there an advantage of a Kevlar keel strip over a glass one or a glass keel strip over a Kevlar one. Thanks -Jason

IPSWICH POOL May 19 Three spots left. Spotters needed.
jason replied to Rob Hazard's topic in General Message Board
If the pool session gets full I would be glad to give up my pool slot to someone that needs to pool time. Rolling in ME was warm enough for me. -Jason -
Brian, When they say Carbon/Kevlar has less flex that is compared to just a normal Kevlar boat. I know that when I carry my Kevlar boat it flexes where I grab it. -Jason

I also have to say congrats to Bill and Bob! Great job! -Jason

Next questions is how to rig it to tow the kayak? It could help for when you land and you need to tow your kayak to the camp ground. -Jason

Suz, Thanks for the writeup, I am going to have to take a look at one soon. As I haven't sold my 2nd shadow yet, I am not yet ready to oder my new P&H 173. I needed to know if I should do it with the old or new skeg. It sounds like the new skeg, as I way too good at breaking normal wire skegs. Thanks -Jason
-
>167 and the Cetus are the first of the P&H lineup to have >the new skeg system which is pretty nearly unkinkable and >has a ratcheting style mechanism that allows the paddler to >dial in the exact amount of skeg needed. Suz, Are there any pictures or more detailed descriptions of this skeg on the web that we can see. Will this also be moved into the 173 and if so do you know when that will start? Thanks -Jason

Adam, I was looking at what radios have DSC and it seems that the fix mounted radios are the ones that are required to have DSC/MMSI. The law that required this change has excluded handheld radios for now. Info from the CG on DSC: http://www.navcen.uscg.gov/marcomms/gmdss/dsc.htm Looking at the few handheld radios (I could find 2 Standard, 1 Uniden and 0 Icomm ) with DSC. The Standard they need to be cabled to a GPS via a cradle which doesn't seem like that will help in case of issue in/near a kayak. http://www.standardhorizon.com/indexVS.cfm...=3&isArchived=0 The Uniden has a built in GPS and thus might be the only option today with DSC. http://www.uniden.com/products/productdeta...?product=MYSTIC It doesn't look like it could take the abuse of a M88 etc. I just found this link where they are talking about the issues with attempting to get a MMSI descriptor for a kayak and DSC in general. http://www.westcoastpaddler.com/community/...ewtopic&p=19048 -Jason

Bob, The edit function is a global conf, it has to be all set the same. I thought that you were one of the people looking for the edit function to be disabled: http://www.nspn.org/htdocs/dcforum/DCForumID13/77.html#1 Were we reading this wrong? Thanks -Jason
