  1. It does look like a nice park and play. All very nice but if you go to Wales you have the support system and comradery of the BCU, easy access and good ale:) I have heard the French have some funny laws about offshore padding or sailing. Anyone know of this?
  2. Great that we have a group. Could I have e- contact info, cell numbers etc sent to me at psylatmetrocastdotnet ?
  3. Odiorne, Rye NH sat 12/26. 9 am arrival. Going to enjoy the warmer day and get on the water. Might go around Gerrish or up the river. Expect 12 miles and off water by 1-2 pm. Higher level 3. Please have drysuit, neo-hood, gloves, hot thermos, hypo kit, etc. Prefer three minimum. Respond here or PM. No responses and I may go somewhere else. thanks
  4. A step up from the small compass I keep in my pfd. This one looks too large. I have seen and used a prism style sighting compass on the water. At about 60$ it is on the someday list.
  5. Heading out from Odiorne sat 11/7 for 4 hours +/-. Some wind around so I might just stay in the river. Will try to find some bump and I will be moving at a good pace and may cover 10-14 miles. Sorry for the short notice but please join if able. Should be a nice day. Water is low fifties so be properly outfitted. Meet at 9 am with bib shortly thereafter. If no response I may alter time or put in so please message me or respond here. thx
  6. I have played around with the duffek style stroke in surf. When surfed into the shore and your in that 1-2' deep water and trying to spin your boat around to head back out. When you have a wave coming on beam plant a duffek into the top of the wave and throw your weight forward to free the stern. If successful the boat will spin real nice. If not, you will not feel very steady. Perhaps the paddle plant is more forward than some pictures depict. Just something I have played with that has worked. As for high brace comments you will have to see me on the water and ask!
  7. Congratulations and well done... that snazzy boat helps :)
  8. 50 degrees sustained for the cure time is the minimum for some resins I work with. Not sure about the epoxy sticks. Best for temp repair IMO. Just build a tent and set a halogen light in it. I just did this in my garage because I did not want to heat the whole garage.
  9. Good to see you have this behind you. Congratulations,
  10. I could not find any web presence/mail a couple weeks back when I wanted to get another one. I did send off the check to his address last week and will let you know what comes back. I thought I heard once that his children had been helping to fill orders.
  11. Pru, Another great write up. Ramsey is high on my list...Glad to see groups getting over there and having fun. thx
  12. To Hear The Music, Opus 139 is a show I caught last night on MPBS and highly recommend. It tells the story of a talented group in Gloucester Ma that makes pipe organs for churches and other organizations. Several years ago when I met Rob Hazard we had some things in common and whenever he related to me that he worked at a organ maker it "kind of went over my head"....and the conversation moved on. When I started watching this show I wondered if this was the same company Rob was with...How many organ builders could there be in the area?? The show tells a few different stories all centered around this amazing company that brings together a wide variety of skills to produce these masterpieces. Well worth your time to watch Rob and the rest at work.
  13. Might drop the price on my Pintail, Nothing more playful and will keep up with any group. If you buy good pedigree you will be safer imo. (nspn classifieds). Not sure why the market is down. Seems like people still flow into the sport. Maybe more are buying new?
  14. If you want a shot a flatter water go north of Halifax to Tangiers. Park at Scott Cunningham's kayak center... Coastal Adventures?? And head out to the islands from there. Many safer areas if the swells are coming in and you can camp anywhere. There are beaches for surfing near Halifax but never personally got there. Close to Advocate harbor in Fundy there is a neat little campground call Shipyard or something. Put in right there but a long way to the water at low tide. You can go out of Advocate harbor and avoid the race at Cape D'or and it will give you a good idea of what Fundy is all about. The Flower Pots is further down and cool I hear..
  15. You would be fine not washing or you could wipe it down to minimize the salt which will stay on the surface and bead up in moist storage environments. That is not an issue... If you have a skeg cable you might want to give it a squirt of whatever is recommended by the maker.
  16. Side note..., I have been thinking I should tether myself to the kayak when doing secluded solo paddles. Don't bother assailing me about entanglement as I know the risks.
  17. I hope to get in at the little lot just north of the state put in. The parking is near the bridge and adjacent to the state ramp. Driving a Black Blazer, yellow Pintail on top. sixohthreethreeonetwofortyeightten
  18. Heading out of (most likely) Rye harbor side lot and looking for beach surf and off shore breaks. BIB 9 ish. expect varied surf and swell. 3-4 hours max. Anyone with interest can post here or PM. If no response my put in and time may change. Helmets and proper surf etiquette expected
  19. There are laws about making only headway speed within (I Think) 150'?? of any other watercraft. Get the numbers and report them.
  20. Well said, Thanks again for putting this together. Thanks to Gary and Dave for rounding IAH with me.
  21. Nice video. No one is getting any glide into that headwind. They are crawling. Very tough. Would have taken my Explorer over my FSK had I entered. Leon, There was another year around 03 that was rough also. The beam sea got the best of me and I went into Rockport. Finished the race by taxicab... Good times,
  22. Not too concerned about scuff resistance. More interested in the best oil that will soak in and give some water repellency for a few years then coat again. I'll try some samples and see how they fare. thanks,
