  1. Folks arrive 5:00 - 5:30 and usually on water by 5:30. If you arrive late, the lake is small... you'll find us OK. Usually at the far end of the lake near the state park.
  2. Actually, I was referring to Lake Massabesic which is a resevoir, hence no body contact allowed. Sorry for the confusion!
  3. Also, how did you trigger the exposure? Did you have some kind of remote "shutter" release?
  4. A quick swipe with the tongue abates the water drop problem nicely. As a bonus, replenishes the electolytes lost during aggresssive paddling ;-)
  5. But, ya can't get wet in Lake M! Join us on Great Pond in Kingston tomorrow evening and wetness is guaranteed!
  6. Yeah, yeah, yeah... we've heard it all before, Bill ;-) Anyway, my plan is to be there so see y'all there. Maybe Peter will be there and we can watch the Anas mating ritual!
  7. I have an older Pentax Optio, water resistant rather than waterproof. It takes decent snapshot pix and, so far, has survived the splashing and occasional dunking it gets. I suspect that a higher performance camera in a case would give better picture quality if that's important but the Pentax is fine for casual recording of a trip.
  8. Did you know that "gullible" isn't in the dictionary?
  9. The other Anas paddler was Peter. We didn't have too much surfable stuff though ;-)
  10. Hey, we missed you Bill! And, there was another Anas there looking for a playmate ;-)
  11. Scott's right about the possibility of very ugly conditions crossing Penobscot Bay to Warren I believe you can take the Ferry over to Islesboro then paddle to Warren from there but not sure they'll let you take a kayak without a car though.
  12. Here is the chart showing the various courses that were used in Saturday's sailboat races. Looks like they covered a good portion of the bay. http://www.nationalmssociety.org/MEM/more_...a_racechart.pdf
  13. No license is needed for a marine VHF radio. Check this site for some info on channel usage. http://wireless.fcc.gov/marine/vhfchanl.html Have fun!
  14. Not sure what you had before but the two-chambered model like the one from Seattle Sports is generally considered to be the best (of the inflatables, at least). Other manufacturers probably make one as well.
  15. Well, MITA membership would open many island camping opportunities and is also a worthy cause regardless (OK, off soapbox now). There are a number of islands that are publicly owned. Those coming immediately to mind include Jewell in Casco Bay, Thief in Muscongus, Little Chebeague in Casco, etc. Jewell and Little Chebeague are apt to be pretty heavily used Labor Day weekend. Thief has just one useable site and is also likely to be busy. I believe Strawberry Island in Muscongus Bay is public and not too far a paddle from Bremen Cove Marine, a good put-in for Muscongus. There are quite a few other public islands so some research will likely be fruitful. Another alternative is Warren Island State Park in Penobscot Bay. It's a 2 mile paddle from Lincolnville Beach (can be choppy on a windy day) and has nice sites, fresh water, privy, etc. Check with Maine Sport for the tandem rental.... they're in Rockport, ME. Have fun!
  16. Ed and Gail... congrats on the rolls... that is awesome!! :-)) You'll have to show them off next time I see you on the water.
  17. This sounds like fun so I'm interested! Let's see if we can get a group together.
  18. Whoa, I never thought of dipping the 'shrooms in chocolate!
  19. www.paddling.net has lots of classifieds Likewise, in addition to NSPN, try the sites of other area paddling clubs like connyak.org and ricka.org and maybe also bskc.org and smskn.org Happy Hunting!
  20. Uh, it's the boat that all the truly cool people paddle! But, I paddle one too... ;-)
  21. http://www.surfski.info/content/view/258/30/ BTW, should anyone ever find themselves in this situation, remember to hold on to your paddle ;-)
  22. I'm going to try to make it over there... the water is at least a few degrees cooler than the air! Definitely a day for wet work. Anyone else?
  23. Oh, and there were also chocolate-dipped CHERRIES ;-))) Thanks, Gay!!
  24. Bridge on RT 1A right near the entrance to Odiorne State Park. Bridge is over Berry Creek. Just do Mapquest for Rye and zoom in on the area around Little Harbor... you'll find it. See you in the morning! From I-93: To Route 101 east to I-95 North to exit 5, Portsmouth Traffic Circle. Go 1/4 around the circle to Route 1 By-Pass south to Route 1 south. Take a left onto 1A south at the traffic lights at Elwyn Road. Follow Route 1A south until you get to a bridge. There is parking on the left before the bridge and a little further down, a sign and entrance to the boat ramp for Odiorne State Park. Modest fee and dry parking.
