  1. CG now recommends dialing 911 for any emergency. There is an article in the most recent ACK re. the elimination of *CG. Mostly, it had not been universally implemented and calls were often misrouted causing delays.
  2. I generally use a bow tie-down for anything over a few miles and bow and stern tie-downs for any high speed and/or distance travelling. Takes about 60 seconds to do both bow and stern... small investment for insurance.
  3. Lisa and I will probably join you tomorrow. See ya then!
  4. Cancelled due to lack of interest... some of us will join the Castle gang.
  5. Well, the weather forecast for Saturday is currently quite benign so a few of us are planning to take in some paddling in Portland Harbor/Lower Casco Bay. Still early in the season so the pleasure boat traffic should be fairly light. Let's say be on the water at 10AM, at East End Beach. Trip will be around 11NM give or take and dependent upon group consensus. Proposed route subject again to group consensus, conditions, etc. http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=918229 Please post interest here or via email so any last minute changes can be communicated.
  6. I have the Malone Autoloaders and it's a great system. For your poly boat, having it lying on the side of the hull rather than the bottom will help prevent those rack dents!
  7. 60 is too warm for me in a drysuit ;-) See you there!
  8. Hey Paul... I'll likely join you all on Sat.
  9. Cool...bring a log book so we can look forward to a great trip report!
  10. Uh, in northern NE, something is ALWAYS swarming ;-))
  11. Seems like a good approach. And, if it works for Bill with all the surfing he does , then it WORKS ;-)
  12. Yes, I've been taught the same thing. But, I guess there are differing opinions on it. What I've been told is that with larger breaking stuff, paddling isn't going to work real well and that holding the paddle essentially in the setup position for the moment one is actually in the breaker is better. I haven't been out in stuff big enough to worry about that :-)
  13. Just out of curiousity, do you fab these yourself or are they a universal replacement of some sort? Mine isn't bent (yet) but plexi might just be the right stuff.

  15. One thing to note, as I'm sure your readings have indicated, is that the water really disappears at low tide. I mean, NO water through much of the area. Really limits where one can paddle in the low half of the tide. It's a nice quiet area, though and the paddling there was quite enjoyable.
  16. Actually, they're still a coop but, like many coops and "non-profits," they take in lots of cash and the management is well compensated I'm sure. Great outfit, though, and wish they had a store in tax-free NH though ;-)
  17. Yeah... all NH residents, please write/call your legislators to dump this thing.
  18. Yeah, that's what I found out! I'd been meaning to sign up but kept forgetting to do it. I'm putting it in my calendar for next Jan 1.
  19. Thanks for the reminder Jason. Unfortunately, I tried to register this morning and the class is already filled. Oh well, maybe next year!
  20. Romany or new Romany Surf, Chatham 16, Kajaksport Viking are a few that come to mind.
  21. Latest on the BCUNA site suggests Autumn 2007 as a target timeframe for the new 4* assessment criteria. http://www.bcuna.com/pages/Main-Pages/Updates.shtml I'm thinking it would actually be better to hold off on 4* until the new stuff is in place. Many coaches are including a lot of the leadership in their 4* training sessions already.
  22. What do they charge for this? It looks like a good idea!
