  1. The surfski workshop is on for this Sunday. There are open spaces, pm me if you'd like to join us.
  2. Yes. All details the same with the new date. Watching the long range forecast.
  3. Sorry, I moved this back without checking the calendar, I don't want to conflict with the skills session. We're rescheduling for Sunday 7/11. If you're already registered, please notify me by pm whether you will attend on Sunday. As of now there are 2 availablespots.
  4. After discussion with Matt we are postponing the workshop to next Saturday, 7/10. Between wind, rain, and waves we thought it best to look for a better day. If you're registered and not available 7/10, sorry, and please let me know by pm. If you weren't registered but are available 7/10, please pm me.
  5. The workshop is this Saturday and there are two openings available. I believe the signup is closed, pm me if you'd like to join.
  6. One spot has opened up and I don't have a waiting list.
  7. Update: Surfski workshop is scheduled and full, only awaiting a decent weather forecast. I talked with several Coast Guard people about doing an event with the main focus being radio use and was generally unsuccessful. One person I talked to suggested that a harbormaster might be a better fit. I reached out to Bion Pike, Manchester harbormaster, with whom I had had some previous interactions. He would be happy to do a zoom session on radio use, safety, and other subjects related to the role of harbormaster. He is available weekdays either at 4pm or 8:30pm. If you're interested, please post here and indicate which time works for you.
  8. This event is closed at 10 participants. If you are registered and need to cancel please pm me promptly. If you would like to be on a waitlist please pm me and I will maintain a list. If there's sufficient interest we will hold the event again.
  9. Bump for people who aren't following. Three spots left.
  10. How do you know, or what makes you suspect, that you have delamination issues? Or do you just send it back periodically for warranty inspection?
  11. Let me answer some questions here that were posed to me by pm: This is primarily an "intro to" workshop. It's presumed that you have at east some seakayaking experience but no surfskiing prior experience needed. There will be adequate surfskis to loan. You might want to bring a kayak for when you're not in a ski and to maybe paddle after. I expect I will. I've volunteered to hook up empty kayaks on the water if we're changing boats around. Bring your own water and maybe snacks, and a pfd. Matt paddles barefoot and this works fine but you could bring very minimal watershoes.
  12. I'm anticipating a wait list for this session, we'll try to do another one on a weekday.
  13. Description in post. Limit 10 signup https://forms.gle/gsNC1Q8bWC4XNjoY8
  14. Workshop is tentatively scheduled for July 3 from Fisherman's Beach in Swampscott. https://goo.gl/maps/bz6h7y2X1G89vWjC8 We will meet at 9am. Bring surfskis if you have them or kayaks for when you're not in a ski. Attendance limited to 10. Signup is here: https://forms.gle/gsNC1Q8bWC4XNjoY8 It's my first time using this signup so glitch alert.
  15. I scheduled this morning to paddle with Matt and expected to just be copilot of the tandem but no! Mat brought two singles too and started me out in the Epic V8. At 18' it has the general feel of a sea kayak and was fairly easy for me to get going in. Then for fun we tried switching boats and I tried to get underway in his longer faster boat, I think a V12. That was a nonstarter. So we switched to the V10 tandem. Stability was somewhere between the V8 and the V12 but with Matt as half the crew I started feeling comfortable in it after a while. Matt was gracious and an excellent teacher. Surfski workshop coming soon!
  16. Matt Drayer has agreed to be a facilitator for a surfski workshop this summer. It would be held somewhere with calm water and good parking, maybe Riverhead. The first step is to assess how much interest there is so we can determine whether we need an additional source of boats. Please post here if you would be interested in joining, whether you're available weekdays, and if you have surfskis to bring and share.
  17. Recently the club hosted two Zoom presentations that were quite successful. Your Board of Directors would like input on what you would like to see more of. Please post your suggestions here, not limited to zoom events, in fact, not limited at all. Two possibilities that are already under consideration are an on the water introduction to surfski and a presentation from the coast guard, including a refresher on radio use.
  18. Would you guys who are going to paddle out mind starting a separate thread?
  19. I hope to come, probably not for dinner. L3 or L4, or copilot L2.
  20. I can make it sometimes. I want to try your surf kayak!
  21. For those of you who indicated an interest in this trip, we're going to be looking for an opportunity in July. Because of the challenge of combining favorable conditions with availability of transport there will likely be only a week's notice, maybe less. We'll post here then it will be first come first serve.
  22. I checked in with my daughter, who does social media as part of her business. She said that getting into facebook advertising for this probably isn't worth it but if any of us on facebook comment and/or share it that really broadens exposure.
  23. Yesterday was the trial run for the IOS trip to occur later this summer. Jeff Charrette, Prudence Baxter and I awoke early to meet Jack Farrell at the Utopia in the Picataqua River at 6:30. By seven we were motoring towards Wood Island against the current. Forecast: West winds moving towards north at 10 kt, Seas 2-3'. It looked like a beautiful day! Approaching Star Island: We got organized and headed out through the wide gut between Smuttynose and Appledore. The outside of Appledore was spectacular but while the medium swell made mostly for sightseeing, we were able to get in close from time to time. , We continued on to Duck Island, which had many seals in the water monitoring our progress. Then back on the inside of Appledore for a lunch on Smuttynose. Prudence was particularly smitten with the green lagoon off Smuttynose. Said it was her favorite place ever and most of you know where she's been. We agreed that the trial run was a great success and that the main challenge was to figure out how to fit enough boats on the Utopia. Many thanks to Jack at https://www.seacoastmaritimecharters.com/ and https://starisland.org/.
  24. The lunch landing was actually trickier than it looks here, mainly due to poor footing. Bob and I headed back to an alternate launch point via Egg Rock, which was really rocking! Thanks to the WLP team for organizing!
