  1. Hello,

Great to see our kayak decals mentioned on the board, but not so great to see it as they won't stick to polyethylene :o

I, and my husband, are the creators of the Kayak Decals (www.KayakDecal.com) and would like to mention that the decals DO adhere to "plastic" polyethylene kayaks.

In the case of the Valley boat, the surface is textured and rough. The other known issue, as stated on our website, is with Sea Kayak brand kayaks- they too have a textured/rough surface that the decals do not adhere to. I will be adding Valley to this statement as well.

We have been making and adhering our decorative decals on kayaks since 2004- along with hundreds of happy customers.

Thanks and sorry they don't stick to textured surfaces,

    nancy

    Hi,

I tried to post a reply last night but for some reason that didn't adhere either!

I wanted to let folks know that Nancy provided great customer service through this process. She was very supportive and even traveled to my home Saturday morning to see if she could solve the problem. Nancy refunded my money that same day. The decals that I do have on my paddles are of high quality and lovely detail. She was even able to coax a small turtle on to the rim of my hatches. I highly recommend her decals for your kayak, paddle or anything else you want to decorate!

  2. So... Last weekend I went kayak-camping on Cape Island/Cape Porpoise, great fun aside from hitting Pease AFB traffic to and fro. When I came home I was very tired and not as methodical as I can be. I washed my boat and all my stuff (shoot, forgot to hose the car) and took the black thingies (straps?? tie-downs?? loops???) off of my kayak and put them on the roof of my car. Monday AM I drove blissfully, sleepily, to work, parked and went "oops". Black thingies were MIA.

The black thingies loop around the bow and stern and that is what I hook the lines to. Do you know where I can find replacement thingies?? Or what they are called?? It's hard to look for something when you don't know what it is...

    Much thanks, :rolleyes::rolleyes:

  3. . Removing the 303 completely could be a challenge.

Use lacquer thinner, or in a pinch, nail polish remover (acetone), or even rubbing alcohol.

PE's are notoriously greasy until they dry with age, at which time they craze and crack.

There are some glues that will work, however I can't remember which, as it's been a long time since I used to memorize plastic inertness and solvency charts. NALGENE used to print a good reference....

Thanks everyone, I think I'll pass on pretty decals for my kayak and stick to decorating my paddle.

  4. Looking at her site, she does show decals being applied to plastic boats, so perhaps there is another issue. Have you ever used a silicone-based wax or protectant on your boat? If so, silicone residue from that may be the culprit. It can be removed with some effort and the right solvent, but decals that are contaminated are not likely to work.

You can also try contacting the decal seller and explaining the problem you're having. Perhaps she's run into it before.

The seller has offered to come down and take a look and bring more decals, alcohol (rubbing) and Windex. Um, "protectant" as in 303?? Yup, once a month...

  5. Hi all,

Time for the silly question of the day... So, I purchased some really cool kayka decals and set about applying them this AM. The ones for the paddle went on without issue. The two I selected for my boat won't stick. I have a plastic Valley Avocet. I methodically followed the prep instructions to a the letter. Any ideas, suggestions, thoughts?

  6. I see that full-moon this month occurs on 24th; but that is a Tuesday. So what about paddling that Saturday, 21st?

If there is enough interest, I guess we'll make it out of the (now becoming-) regular Lanes Cove, at around 1900-1930.

    Anyone?

ME! Please.... Christopher, do you remember my complaining about how my rib hurt while we were paddling last time? Well, it turned out I had gall stones!! Gall stones and a melted kayak is too much all together...

  7. First, regarding SUNDAY: what about meeting in Lanes Cove at 1600, Liz? (Sorry, I forgot all about the mid-week thingie...)

Secondly, for MONDAY: let's say I shall be in the cove around 1000 (Katherine and anyone else) for play along the coastline in either direction.

Great, see you then (Monday, 10:00, Lanes Cove)

  8. Thank you for attending this paddle. To my surprise upon arrival, there was 18 of us who were ready for a day of level 2 paddling. The winds and tide were with us as we paddled towards the river for a view of Lobster Cove and lunch. We had 4 pods and Lorrie, Judy, Deb, and Karen acted as pod leaders (Did I miss anyone?). My task was to make sure all paddlers were safe and comfortable as we paddled along the coastline on a beautiful summer day.

Many of the paddlers that day are new to NSPN and to all the Club has to offer.

We arrived back at the put-in around 2:30. Some of the group (including myself) decided to paddle more distance; while others decided enough of paddling for one day.

I hope everyone enjoyed their day, particularly those who are new to the Club.

See you soon on the water.

    Les

It was great fun. I enjoyed recognizing landmarks previously not seen from the water. Thanks, Leslie for initiating this fun outing.

  9. Yes, certain paddlers (Deb!) are really anxious to have this pinned down, aren't they? Well, Phil is correct in that Saturday pm is looking uncertain, according to NOAA...SHALL we make this trip for Friday instead? Opinions, please.

According to Phil, meatballs (?) are f/c for Saturday night -- we don't want that, now, do we? Friday might be a good idea, if folks can make that one instead...

Bob Budd is correct in that I <was>, indeed, thinking of going out of Lanes Cove again (easy parking; lovely spot, etc.) We do not have to do match our itinerary exactly to the last one, however! The water is getting to be a lovely temperature now.

    Hi,

I won't be able to make a Friday night paddle :( and understand completely if you switch to Friday night because of the weather forecasted for Saturday night.

  10. We had a pleasant paddle with many of you wanting more. That's great; join us at the lake sessions and check the NSPN message board for trips/paddles to join.

Here are a few pics from the paddle; I know some of you took more and might want to share them.

Thanks to Al, Kevin, Gillian and Ross for assisting.

I had a grand time! Looking forward to the full moon and the ladies only paddles.
