  1. Oops, and here I am to fulfill my promise to find that Phil was able to do so in a more timely fashion. Thanks, Phil. Sorry, Christopher. PS: I am busy working on pulling together the other info I promised you as well.

  2. Thank you Christopher for moving the conversation away from the "ridden hard put away wet" track... :headBang:

I like "Clara". I did name my boat; but I can't remember what I named her. And I did have a "proper" christening with Irish whiskey, sage and a blessing.

Good luck with your boat, Rick. What are you getting?

  4. Hi,

For those of us who like to have paddles in our calendars here are some dates for you to consider:

June 10 ~ Ladies Paddle (I could never get the hang of the plural, possessive, "woman"...), yes, you need to be a w-o-m-a-n

    June 23 ~ Solstice Paddle

October 28 ~ Chauncey Creek - Brave Boat Harbor (L2)

And I predict you will see more trips posted shortly, check out the calendar!

    :cheer:

  5. Doug, such a great topic, thanks for getting the conversation going!

Pru, good to know about the noise factor of the Exped mat; I shall choose my sleeping companions very carefully :-)

Any specific recommendations regarding a camp stove??

  6. Welcome to the world of Sea Kayaking!

Folks here are very helpful and knowledgeable, as you can see.

If you have a boat available to you please consider taking advantage of one of the pool sessions. Once the warmer weather rolls around skill sessions are offered in a few locations.

Looking forward to seeing you on the water,

    Katherine

The annual NSPN Holiday Party will be on Saturday, December 10th, 6PM at the Gould Barn in Topsfield.

This is a great time for members and paddling friends to gather and share holiday cheer, kayak stories and good food and drink.

As is our tradition We'll have a raffle , slide show, announce and give out our yearly awards: The Founders, Traverso, and Paddler of the Year Award, also the School of Hard Knocks award.

    Pot Luck: bring something yummy.

Looking forward to with friends and paddlers!

  8. NSPN Post-General Meeting Paddle

    Sunday Sept. 25th

    Pavilion Beach, Ipswich

Meet at Pavilion Beach, Ipswich @ 12:30PM , after the annual NSPN Members General Meeting, for a 1PM paddle.

This has been a great time for the club to paddle together in early autumn.

Float plan can be determined by the group , weather & conditions that day .

    Trips will be L2 and/or L3

In the past we have broken into groups, with trips along Plum Island, Cranes Beach, circumnav. Cranes/ Castle Island , and/or playing in the surf at the mouth of Plum Island Sound.

Max ebb is 1:05PM (1.57kt.) so we'll have a mid-tide launch and can ride the ebb out of Plum Island sound.

Slack before flood is 4:37PM, so we can ride the beginning of the flood back to the put in @ 5PM.

    Sun set is 6:35PM

Weather updates will be posted here.

Feel free to RSVP here or send PM to Peter Brady

I will be there as well!

  9. Hi Katherine,

Look forward to seeing you on Wednesday. The directions for Walden are in the put-in section of this message board: Walden is a good spot for rescue practices on weekdays. Just south of the main park area is a road down to a boat ramp. The ramp is closed at 8:00 pm or at sunset, whichever comes first. The park rangers usually start chasing people out at ~7:30 and it’s best to cooperate with them. To get there go south on Rt. 126 toward Lincoln from Rt. 2 (or north toward Concord from Rt. 117). The park is obvious.

Make sure you go to the boat ramp entrance not the main entrance.

Thanks Leslie, I should have thought of looking at the "Put-Ins" :-) See you tomorrow,
  10. Yes. I am aware of that option but I was hoping to get knee and thigh braces for a valley boat., They were actually held in place by bolts that fit into nuts inside the pads. back when I was more active in the club, there was a place on the north shore that repaired british boats. I am hoping they are still around. I am trying to avoid a trip to south Rhode Island. Thanks.

You could give Theresa at Coastal Maine Kayak in Kennebunkport a call, she sells Valleys.
