  1. Oh my gosh, I can't remember laughing so much while alone...

I, just for the record, hose everything down. on the lawn (except only inside the hatches when they have been used)making sure to get the foot peg tracks (I read that somewhere...). If the hose isn't yet connected everything, but the kayak goes in the tub and I lug buckets for the boat and truck.

Then, everything hang-able gets hung from trees and the hatch covers get 303'd NOT THE BOAT (see earlier post about a slippery boat...)

  2. Sounds like you had a mishap Katherine? Care to share?

    Oh, it is embarrassing...

The boat kept sliding off of my car in the process of loading. I stopped counting at 6x.

I got it up there eventually and gave thanks for my stubbornness, a quality that does not receive much appreciation.

A good friend cam over this evening and we tried to work through it... I am off to Family Dollar tomorrow to buy a different bath mat and will cut a V shape into my foam blocks.

  3. Hi, I moved up to Magnolia Mass last summer and I would really like to learn to Kayak. I am 51 and trying to get in decent shape. It is something I always have wanted to do. Looking for advise on the most economical way to get started. Lessons, Rentals and ownership of a Kayak. I am really into nature and the Ocean and Kayaking really in

    triques me.

    Welcome!

I agree with Liz, NSPN folks are very helpful and generous with their time and patience.

Looking forward to seeing you on the water,

  4. Launched on the ebb and into the wind toward the mouth - a bit choppy as the wind was opposing the current. Fast, wet trip down. Landed briefly at the reservation to look at some seals and adjust the pedals on the epic and then down out the mouth. Turned up river and downwind...zoooommmm...surfed the entire ride back! That flippin v-8 is my new love...yes, it's an eggshell, no I can't whup on it at all but holy crap is it fast!

    Rick,

Happy to see that you are in love.

  5. Seacliff Kayakers schedule is not set in stone, so if there were offerings that sounded of interest, your best bet is to reach out to John Carmody directly by email or phone and let him know what your goals are. While he'll likely be updating the calendar for 2012 soon, he tends to tailor the classes he has based on needs of students. it is a bit of a drive up to Boothbay, and most easily done as a weekend trip vs a day trip but there are a range of options in terms of where to stay-from a decent inexpensive motel to camping at Hermit Island which is lovely. There are a variety of playgrounds as well-surfing at Popham is a treat, as well as Tideraces at various places. So the trip to Boothbay is worthwhile and likely to leave you wanting for more!

I haven't paddled the CT waters where Kayakwaveology is located, but am told there are lots of fun places to be found there as well. Good luck with your journey!

And... bring your wife to Boothbay ~ there is lots to see and do outside of kayaking!
