  1. I got my white light and the GPS programmed for the C of C. See you at 6:30. Larry
  2. Thanks Doug Great pictues - great trip! Larry
  3. Doug, looks like a good day for a paddle - see you at Odiornes. Larry
  4. Rick, unfortuantely something has come up and I can't make tomorrow. Here's wshing your group fair winds and following seas. Larry
  5. I would also like to be a competent member of the group - what CAM level do you think this might be? Larry
  6. Scott, nice trip report and great photos. I especially liked the GPS route at the end. I didn’t realize we had gone that far even though it felt like it. And I really want to thank Al for CAMing this trip. Twice now, Al has taken us to the Graves with better than perfect conditions. Not a bad first ocean experience for my friend Joe. 7. Al, looking forward to another one of your trips, count me in. Early is fine, but I'll do whatever the group decides Larry
  8. Doug, nice photos and a great trip! I'll try and stay more with the group next time. Larry Some more photos at http://picasaweb.google.com/larryg2002/Fro...errishIslandNH#
  9. Add my name to the pile - it looks like a good day to paddle Larry
  10. Al, what are the odds that this site would be down the same time we would check for messages? Anyway, I made my first solo trip today. The water was like glass (like the time we went to Graves). I paddled over to Nahant, then out to Egg Rock, then back to Kings Beach. Sorry we missed each other – until next time. Larry
  11. I'll check this message board at 7 and if still on, will plan to be there at 8:30. Larry
  12. 9 works for me just fine, how about everyone else? Larry
  13. Count me in. You may want to consider an earlier launch time. I know Nahant gets full before 10 on hot summer days and I would think this adjacent might also. Just a thought. Larry
  14. I'm interested Al - pick a place and time. Larry
  15. Gene, I think I answered your original question and the one thing I learned and would like addressed is a better radio check. Setting channels and saying “check 1, 2, 3†on the beach isn’t enough. I would suggest that after everyone is in their boat and have paddled for a while to get some separation, a check of everyone with radios be made. I would also suggest that some guidelines on radio use be made. For example, should we adopt a common channel with provisions for an alternate if there is heavy traffic? Larry
  16. I posted this on the other thread, not realizing it moved: I had heard Gene on the radio saying he was planning to go into shore. I watch the surfing fanatics for a while then noticed Gene wasn't around any more. It was at that time that I and several others contacted Gene and he said he was nearing shore. I set off in search of Gene a short while after that. Unfortunately, my radio transmitions were garbled and although I could hear and understand Gene, he couldn’t understand me. I paddled over to the nearest beach (Crane?) and didn’t see him so I paddled over to Plum Island. As I approached the western point, I could have sworn I saw Gene leaving the eastern point. I tried to contact him, but no one was responding to the crap coming out of my radio (the radio is less than a year old, this really pi**es me off). It looked like he was headed back to the group so I landed on the western point and changed into a dry set of clothes. From what I can guess, Gene headed north. Larry

  18. I also have an IC-M34 for the reasons Betty cited plus other features such as a low power option, weather channels, and a lithium ion battery. I wished I had bought it at West Marine - that's a good price. Larry
  19. I agree, except I use one tennis ball and roll around on the floor - with the ball between the floor and my back. More pressure can be applied on the knots and you can get pretty good at positioning the ball. Suz and Scott, I'd like to thank you both for an informative and excellent workshop. It far exceeded my expectations and those were pretty high. I actually wished the water had been colder, but a lot of anxious concerns have been eased. To all others who enjoyed the hospitality of Liz: Thanks for the kindredship and great food! Larry
  20. Stuff I need to know - I'll be there. Larry
  21. Four of us, Kevin, Glenn, Lori, and I put in at Tuck’s Point and headed out to the Ram Islands. Form there we headed east to Great Egg Rock and then to Kettle Island. After passing Kettle Island we went into Gloucester Harbor and had a snack break on the beach at Norman’s Woe Cove. On the way back Glenn picked up a hitch hiker who we think is headed to Mexico. All in all it was a very mild, sunny, warm day – especially for the middle of October. Just a great day to get out and paddle! 22. Great! 10:00 BIB time it is. See you all there. Larry
  23. Kevin, I'm still interested, but I have an agenda. The route I planned last week to Kettle (see below) had a key portion (miles 1-3) that was exactly due east (magnetic) and exactly two knots. I would still like to do this leg as a navigational and a SMG check. Other than that, I’m open, although I’d like to get in the water sooner. Could you do a 10:00 BIB time? 24. I wanted to do Kettle last week and would be interested if that becomes the plan. Larry
  25. After Saturday’s annual meeting, six of us put in at Pavilion Beach and paddled north. We found tranquility and a hidden marina for lunch then a tailwind for the return trip. Pictures at http://picasaweb.google.com/larryg2002/Fro...nToPointsNorth# Larry
