  1. Photos from Seabrook Skill Session, 21 Paddlers Attended. No waves in the bowl so we paddled out and around to Hampton Beach where we found some small waves. Fun was had by all. http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome...=2Act2jdmzbsmHD Bill H
  2. Just my 2 cents, The pamlico 165 is a good boat for 2 paddlers with lots of gear, the 135 is a flat bottom and very stable, and the 145 is a smaller version of the 165, all tandems have rear adjustable seats to slide forward to even out the weight. Maybe the way to go is with a used tandem. For single kayaks , Ocean Kayak makes a kids sit on top kayak called the Kea about 9ft long and perception makes the Acaia Scout about 10 ft long and 25 lbs. The Acadia is wider than the Carolina 12. But at 4 years old your best bet is a tandem. Bill H
  3. Hi Graham, I have some WS gelcoat if you want to repair yourself I've done a few repairs and could help some night this week. If you have a leak in your skeg box that's a warranty issue and the kayak should be checked out. If the skeg box leaks they might send you a new kayak. I had mine checked out at Suncook Kayak and He sealed all my hatch rims but I still Get some water in my rear hatch. Bill H
  4. Seacoast Kayak and Portsmouth Rent & Ride are out of business, the only local place would be New England Small Craft in Rowley Ma. on Route 1. Bill H
  5. I'm interested in the paddle that Ed Lawson is speaking of. Where do you want to meet and what time. Bill H
  6. I also paddle the Tempest and found that the tubing needs to be lubed from tome to time. I think that salt water gets in the tube and dries out causing the cable to stick causing the tube to come off from either end. I turn my kayak upside down and spray dry silicone into the tube working the cable in and out. Bill H
  7. My wife and I will be joining Doug for the paddle. Bill H
  8. I just had my W/S Tempast 170 Kevlar repaired at Suncook Canoe and Kayak. I thought my skeg box was leaking and tried the hose trick but didn't have any luck so i talked to the rep and sent my kayak in for warranty repair. At suncook He uses smoke to see where the leaks are and found that my 2 rear hatches were leaking from the hatch rims. He sealed them from the inside with some type of sealant and then rechecks for leaks. Bill H
  9. I was in St John last year and Arawak does not rent kayaks anymore they only do tours. But we did rent kayaks at Cinnamon bay, they rent some older type rec touring and a variety of sit on tops. We went with the SOT, the water is 85 deg. and the air is around 90 deg, they also rent surf boards and a large selection of wind surfers. Bill H
  10. Count me in to help on the water Bill H
  11. Coast Guard searches throughout night for missing kayaker Today's most viewed articles The Coast Guard cutter Reliance took part in a multi-agency air and sea search for a kayaker reported missing after he didn't return to Odiorne Point Friday night. Karen Dandurant By Karen Dandurant kdandurant@seacoastonline.com February 28, 2009 6:00 AM RYE — The Coast Guard resumed a water and air search Friday night for a kayaker reported missing earlier that day. Crews were expected to search the seas throughout the night. Earlier reports from the Coast Guard indicated the man had been located at about 2 p.m. According to Chief John Roberts, the kayaker told the Coast Guard at that time he was going to have lunch at Star Island. Related Stories * Search resumes for kayaker who was found, reported lost again * Kayaker reported missing is found safe The man, who authorities would not identify, was seen in a yellow kayak and wearing a green wetsuit. He reportedly left Star Island at 3 p.m., but never returned to Odiorne Point. The New Castle Fire Department was conducting search involving infrared technology. A Coast Guard helicopter that had been used in the search was scheduled to return to Station Cape Cod to refuel at 10:40 p.m. A spokesperson for the Coast Guard said the military sent out a 47-foot motor life boat in addition to the helicopter. He said neighboring agencies and their craft were also assisting, including the Marine Patrol and emergency officials from Rye and New Castle, and Kittery and York, Maine. Police in Kittery, Maine, were asked to check a home at 10 Baxter Lane for the man, who is friends with the owners of the property and sometimes paddles out from there. Police said they found no one at the home. The missing man's brother-in-law was with police and said he is in his early 60s, not 50. Roberts said the Coast Guard conducted the first search for the man after receiving a call from a concerned citizen. "The caller was on the beach in the Odiorne Point area and saw a yellow kayak heading out," Roberts said. "He felt it was too rough out for kayaking. He said he ran inside to get his cell phone, and when he came back outside he could no longer see the kayaker." Robert said the Guard dispatched the 47-foot boat at that time. "We had found a green Subaru with a kayak rack," Roberts said earlier. "New Castle police ran the plate number and we were able to confirm the man was headed out toward the Isles of Shoals. So we searched to confirm that person was safe."
  12. Jenness Beach, Rye parking lot is usually plowed enough to park, though their could be waves. Also Seabrook Harbor next to where Seacoast Kayak was, at certain times of the year the harbor could be frozen. Launch into the bay and paddle out the ocean. Bill H

  19. I also suffer from cold fingers when I paddle in the winter, I tried the Reactor gloves and found that thy are either too tight or too loose. On a trip back from Bar Harbor I stopped at LL Bean and found a pair of 3mm neoprene That fit great and seemed to be warm, but after paddling with them 3-4 some of the seams started to split open and finding on days below 35 degrees that my fingers were still getting cold. I did repair the gloves and will keep them foe a spare pair. Since then I bought a pair of fleece lined neoprene 3mm gloves from a local surf shop ( Cinnamon Rainbows) and a pair of 2mm neoprene Glacier gloves from campmor. I still find with all the gloves I have bought my finger tips get cold, but the neoprene gloves are the best I've found yet. I think its from my hands sweating inside the gloves. So my plans are to bring a couple pairs of gloves with me and change to a new pair half way through the paddle and maybe add a thin pair of liners. Bill H
