  1. Suz, So is it really necessary to 303 every 6 weeks? I have a dry suit & a semi dry top that are about 18 mo. old. I have probably 303ed them 3 times, they look like new. Should I still be doing them more often? Thanks for the advice, Chuck
  2. I too have a low tech solution to the problem. I removed the ring from the rdf, and the bungie & hook from the toggle. When transporting the boat on my roof, here's the tricky part, I let the toggle hang down by the hull. It doesn't move.
  3. Your last example is exactly to the point & why the victim does not have control over the tow. My suggestion is that you may consider taking a class in towing from a qualified instructor...'but I'm just sayin'
  4. I didn't expect you to, but is true none the less.
  5. When your the victim the rescuer is in charge and your release is at his discretion. In the above scenario the rescuer would release his belt & if you were capable you would simply paddle forward , gather up the rig & stuff it in your PFD or under your bungees. I think that if you are in the above conditions & really need a tow you would be glad to have someone clip on & get you going, no arguments. Just my 2 cents ($3.50 w/ the coming inflation)
  6. I use the Platypus system & it works great for me. The bladder that came w/ the Kokatat system is actually to large for the bag (at least in the past), also the bag is not insulated. The Platypus is about 1/2 the price of the Kokatat and it is insulated (slightly). I have found that the Platypus will fit most if not all PFDs (works on my MsFit) & if you experiment w/ the straps you can get it to hug your vest, even w/ rolling, etc. I do plan to add 'D' rings to my PFD so that I can snap it on & off easily (don't tell the USCG). I did have a Tributary for my Msfit & it just clipped right on, the only reason I brought it back was that the bladder was to big for the bag. Well their my 2 cents ($3.50 w/ the coming inflation)
  7. Hi Gene, Have you checked the front of your cockpit rim for sharp edges? Though I have not made this particular repair, I don't see why glueing some neo on the inside of the spray deck would not work. I'd also glue the cut in the deck. Well, theirs my 2 cents ($3.50 with the coming inflation), Chuck
  8. Go with the Mystic, it is a great boat. It was my wife's first composite boat. As mentioned it has a bow & stern hatch & a skeg. It is a small sea boat. I weigh 155# & am 5'8" & it worked for me, great fun in the surf!
  9. I have a Reed dry top & its not so dry. Though I like the piece, from day one it would let small amounts of water in @ the wrists & neck. I was told this would happen before I bought it.
  10. Several months ago their was an article in Sea Kayaker Mag about replacing a latex neck gasket w/ a neo gasket. it was very comprehensive w/ many photos. As I remember the author said he would take emails w/ questions. He said he had no leaks or problems. It sounded like a good fix.
  11. So Brian & David, It sounds like you are both recommending the replacement of the neck gasket, is that correct? Thanks, Chuck
  12. The neck gasket on my dry suit is slightly big. Thought it feels firm around my neck, if I'm doing a lot of twisting I take on a little water. It is a medium gasket. I did try a small but after passing out I thought it might be a little tight (OK, I didn't pass out but probably would have). I don't think I could have cut a small gasket back enough to work but I'm surly not an expert on this. Again, I know their is a lot of expertise out there, suggestions? Thanks, Chuck
  13. A few months ago I bought a Pentax W60 water proof camera. I'm looking for some type of pocket with a wide velcro band that I can wrap around my upper arm. This would be similar to an Aquapac pro sport mini but just w/ a flap over the top for easy access. I don't want it on the deck where it can be damaged & my PFD pockets are full (Sling, 1st aid kit, spare compass, etc.) Any ideas, I know theirs a lot of wisdom out there? Thanks, Chuck
  14. Jon, that is a very nice looking install!, Chuck
  15. Hi Gary, Years ago I mounted two of those to the underside of the deck of a Kevlar Falcon 18. I used wet suit contact cement. It was still good years later w/ I sold the boat. Chuck
