I would like to RSVP. I am up for the trip in any weather.
Thanks -Jason -
I have posted the pictures that I took and they can be found at http://kates.org/t/B . I would expect Adam's pictures to be better, many of them were on 35mm film so there will be a delay getting them on-line.
It's time to set the record straight.
There was no backtracking or jeering when we were on the water together we all paddled the same distance
I think that everybody that has paddled with Mark knows that he is the true "Monster".
[li] Mark was the first to get to Block Island, dragging fishing gear during the crossing.
[li] Mark was also 1st to land during our partial circumnavigation of the Island.
[li] He regularly paddles solo or joint trips in the 30 to 60 mile range.
[li] Mark is no slacker in terms of speed.
[li] Mark also regularly leads show and goes. When I was starting to paddle last year, most of my non CRCK paddling last year was with Mark
[li] Mark also seems to be a fishing "Monster".
Adam would be another candidate for being the "Monster"
[li] Adam has been paddling for 10+ years.
[li] He is also no slacker in terms of speed.
[li] Rumors is that Adam regularly paddles 50 mile days (not that he will not confirm or deny the rumors).
[li] If you pickup a Kayak book there is a good chance that you will find Adam's name in the credits.
[li] Adam is a kayak, kayak navigation & kayak fishing instructor.
[li] Adam spends more time in his Kayak than many truck drivers spend in there trucks.
[li] We all get to read Adam's recent articles in wavelength.
[li] Adam cooks a great fish.
I don't have enough time in the boat to be a "Monster", at best I could be classified an apprentice "Monster" or "Monster In Training".

I was wondering if anybody knows a local source for Kayak earplugs?
I have been able to find them on the web but I have no idea what size the inside of my ear is. Thus I would like to go someplace local and possibly a place that can fit them to me.
Walter has a source for them but I rather not drive to NH for a $10 item.
This is the place on the web that I found.

I just found this post in cpakayaker ( http://www.cpakayaker.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1010 )
That has a link to Free BookletCharts for the Chesapeake Bay http://www.nauticalcharts.gov/bookletcharts/
Once can hope that they will have charts for our area eventually, but for now we can use these when visiting the Chesapeake Bay.

I must thank Dee for organizing this most excellent trip. The food, group, location and the paddling was great.
I didn't take too many pictures, the pictures that I took can be found at http://www.kates.org/t/A

I would like to be on the list.
Thanks -Jason

In this link you will see that the staps are rivited into the helmet.

In this picture you will see where the 3 straps hook into a D shaped plastic connector. Under the tape is where the straps where stiched together, I had installed the tape as the ends are sharp.

This is the other side.

I will bring the helmet with me on the trip this weekend.

Brian thanks for the help, but I think that you jumped to a conclusion that its user error a little to early. I did read the instructions. By design the only adjustments are fit foam and how tight the strap is.
Without removing the stitches and restitching the attachment points there is no moving how the straps connect. Since it wasn't in the manual and no needle/tread were provided I don't think that they envisioned that as part of the normal use.

I just tried on my Pro Tec helmet tonight (Ace Water Rodeo) and I found that it easly slides back on my head.
The chin strap is attached to the helmet in two parts above my ear. It then combines below my ear to a singe strap. Cranking down on the straps pushes the helmet back on my head and hurts my chin.

Not sure if you thinking of heading back so soon. But I am probably heading to Walden after work to marrow to test dry suit and work on my roll.

This link lists the water levels and the flow rates along with the predicted future levels. I hope that this is useful for someone else.

Mark's image isn't loading for me. Can anbody else see the image?

Brian I found your current article on gelcoat.
If anybody else would like to view it, page 51 has Brian's Addendum to Gelcoat Repair. (I unfortunately missed the original article).
http://www.wavelengthmagazine.com/2005/on05.pdf
On Page 33 Adam has a review of the Little Wing boat (A boat built in Salem MA). This must be why Adam was at Mystic lake with the boat.

I think that I would pay for a video of Nigel in Linda's rumour surfing with a greenland stick.

Sadly I have to repair two holes in my gelcoat, so much for never scratching my boat.
In this thread Brian did an excellent job in
http://www.nspn.org/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboar...orum=DCForumID3
http://community.webshots.com/album/107841735XmwxIb
In that album he has a picture of "The right stuff"

I stooped by the Woburn West Marine today and they didn't have any gelcoat, I didn't call ahead 1st since I figured it's a boat store they have to have gelcoat.
I was looking at the westmarine catalog to call other stores.
http://www.westmarine.com/ecatalog/index2....ackProdId=72277
The catalog shows two different versions of "The right stuff" should I be using waxed or the non-waxed version?
And are there other sources in the Waltham area within 30 miles or so for Gelcoat that might have it in stock?
While looking I found a few other examples of repairing gelcoat:

Bob great trip report (as always).
I found this map of the islands:
http://www.nps.gov/boha/parkmaps/map_boha.pdf
On this website:
http://www.bostonislands.org/isle_profiles.html
It has some good tidbits about the islands.

Does anybody have directions or a link to directions for making a changing poncho?
I would rather drive home dry and happy from the paddles from now on instead of wearing my wet cloths.
Thanks -Jason

The pictures that I took can be found at this location:
The pictures are not the best. I am still getting used to the camera. (I think that it needs a view finder).

If your would like to get out on the water Friday please drop me an e-mail. I would like to get out on the water.
Thanks -Jason

I would like to vote for a level 3 trip.
Thanks -Jason

I would like to get out on the water the 22nd. Please let me know if you would like to join me.
The weather reports are looking good. http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findwe...ast?query=01701
I am open to idea's for where to paddle.
One idea I had is a circumnavigation of Cape Ann. Low tide is early 8:51am, that would suggest that we should be on the water by 7:30. With AM traffic that might not be the best day for the circumnavigation.

I think that the shorter trip to City Point will to make up a lot of the earlier start time.
As for the distance I have next week off and I am going to attempt to put some real miles next week. So the distance shouldn't be an issue on the 2nd.
I think that I like option 1 and 2 better than option 3 as I get to put some extra miles in. That said I would rather let others pick the finial destination.

I would also like to attend the paddle. Is there any way to include a West option, IE City point?
Thanks -Jason

It seems that nobody was up for Tuesday. I hope that Thursday will work instead.
I am looking to do a Night paddle getting to City Point at 5:30 launching by 6:00.
Out past Spectacle around Long Island, then back to the south of Thompson and landing back at City Point.
High tide is 6:01 PM, thus we should have enough water to get around Thompson.
If you would like to join me on the paddle please RSVP as I will not be paddling at night alone.
The standard Wet/Dry suit and change of clothes rules apply. Along with the appropriate attire you need a white light.
As normal you are responsible for your own safety.
