  2. just like the announcer for the the car shows, right?

so SATURDAY, will be heading down to the breachway in RI...it'll be going off midafternoon. this is fast, fast water and has some standing waves.

what you get out of it is some coaching on breaking in/out of eddies, boat control, surfing and time (the best teacher) in your boat in rougher water...what we'll get out of it is race bait rescue warmup for the RWS at the end of the month!

this is a fairly advanced piece of water but it's relatively contained, there are bailouts.

please be familiar performing low/high braces and BRING A HELMET!

if you're worried about ending up outta yer boat? don't worry...you're liable to and it's why you're there....we need the practice establishing the safety zones, where we're going to "catch" swimmers and and the rescue practice! and hell, time in the boat in bumpy water is always excellent! it's all good!

please post or hit that PM button if you're interested.

sounds like some thing that I would like to do! I need practice getting back in my boat!!!

any way , I am scheduled to be on the cape starting Monday (dropping off my Force 3 for warranty repair) Let me know when/where.

  3. Hi Rick!

I have just returned from a Grandmommie trip!!! :)

will sort it out tomorrow.....Have decided on web shots as I am able to download into my personal files pics in full size from there.

    maryb

ok, ok. so it not "tomorrow"!

Here is the link to the pics http://community.webshots.com/user/mesb5

don't know if this will work..first time and all!

I thought that there was a slide show component but I do not see it when I open the pics. To download one onto your computer, click the snapshot which will give you a larger size. Click "full size" and then right click on the full size which will give you the choice of saving image as.

maryb B) Feeling really cool if this works!!

  4. If you had the pleasure of a great day at Sunday's "How to..." at Odiorne (7/13) you may have come home missing your booties. Heading out of the landing and about a 1/2 mile down the road on the first curve I plucked a Neosport neoprene bootie off the outbound lane. Another 1/2 mile and I picked up it's mate. Both size 6. It's amazing how long stuff will stay on top of the car. If your feet are feeling cold reading this send an email and we can arrange to get them back to you.

    Dana

 They belong to me :( must have left them on my running board....boy bet lots of you folks do not even remember running boards!!!!

thanks for being so eagle-eyed Dana AND for stopping to pick them up...quite a feat given the traffic!!!

    where are you located??

    maryb

  5. I have pics from sunday and am looking for opinions on best way of posting them. I want to use a service that allows viewers to copy the full image and, of course, one that is free!!

    maryb.....still yee-hawing!!!! WHAT A GREAT DAY!!!

too bad I "forgot" to pull out the camera while afloat!!!! :o

  6. if today is any indication there's plenty that needs to be sorted out going from theory to practice.

hummmm...wondering where this was posted. I do not see it in "trips". I am hoping that I am missing something as I have seen very few s&g's posted this year. Perhaps they are being posted somewhere else????? and I am missing out on a lot of fun.

so where was this trip posted that you are referring to Rick????

  7. QUOTE(Kevin B @ Jun 4 2008, 03:34 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
FYI, I don't no yet if the city has started charging for entry to the park. I will try to check tomorrow. If it has, it stops charging at 5pm; however, it would affect the launch point of the pre-paddle. I'll post anything I find out tomorrow.

    Hey Kevin,

Planning on joining you all on fri and saturday. Looking for the meeting place for the pre-paddle. I will check again tomorrow (friday) am.

    maryb

ps Hey Suwin....will be great to see and paddle with you again!!!! mb

  8. Mary,

I prefer the Seal Lines as their plastic is totally clear rather than opaque as the Seattle Sports cases are. As for size, I have their medium which is too small but am considering moving to the large as it gives you greater versatility when folding your chart inside the case. You can always have a folded chart case on your deck but very hard on the water to refold your chart once you have it set up for the day.

    Suz

thanks Suz! That was exactly the info that I was looking for! :woohoo:

completely agree as to the versatility of the larger case!

wonder why they do not call them "chart" cases???? oh well

  9. I was not able to find the orange tape which I put on my Black Magic Paddle...except in the short strips.

I did however find some same color duct tape which I have put on my new paddle. (Carl you can chime in here relative to the level of visibility it produced as you saw it last weekend at Jewell.) I also put solas reflective tape on the blades.

I have lots left on the roll (bright orange) and would be happy to share with anyone.

  10. Thanks, Cathy. I was thinking that the 'upgrade' from the Optio WP to the W30 made sense too. Is the size pretty much the same? I understand it 'ssuppose to be more waterproof as well. Has that been your experience?

    Hi Karen,

I have dropped my W10 in the water two times...not to the bottom thanks to David's suggestion of using the retractable badge thingy as a way of securing items to your person while allowing removal from the pocket for use and return thereto when done! In short, two swims with no neg impact!!!

I love mine...and since I drowned my cannon, it is my only camera.

  11. Mary,

To my knowledge, Ben's Forward Stroke video is still in the works and he hopes to release it this spring.

You might be confusing this with his rolling video which is out in a newer version and is available from Savannah Canoe & Kayak. Osprey Sea Kayak Adventures in Westport, MA. may also have some copies left.

    Deb M

Hummmm...no I think it would pretty hard to confuse the "forward stroke" with a "roll". I, of course, knew that he has been working on one and when I googled it I saw the following:

Charles River Canoe & Kayak :: Performance Paddling Clinics

The cost includes a copy of Epic's "Forward Stroke" DVD (a $29.95 value) signed by Greg Barton. Ben Lawry Kayaking Clinics. Ben Lawry has been teaching ...

My mistake, of course, was assuming that it was Ben's. Ah, I know what that makes me!!! so I do not need to be reminded!!! ;) maryb

  12. Just want to pass along a big THANK YOU to Suzanne Hutchinson for taking her time to teach us how to care for and repair drysuits. The workshop had 18 attendees and I think everyone walked away with a new wealth of knowledge. Here I thought for five years I was giving my drysuit lots of TLC.....only to find out many of the things I do are really bad for it. Guess I'll have to buy a Kokatat and start over with a new one....LOL

Once again...thanks Suz and to all who attended.

I too would appreciate a summary of does and dont's! Especially want to know what you were doing that was "really bad for it" Cathy!!!! Can't imagine what that would be!!:o

    maryb

  13. If any of you have special requests for areas you'd like to see me emphasize, please let me know.

I found some new material, thanks to Steve Maynard - this is mainly in large scale weather patterns.

    YES JOHN,

I would like to have specific addresses of reports of approacing weather, weather that will impact paddling in specific areas. For example, I read on the NSPN sight comments such as "given the storms in the atlantic, we can expect good surf on Sunday." From WHAT/WHERE did that info come? Also, web sites where maps with isobars etc can be read!

looking forward to the presentation...again...thinking that each time I hear it I will understand a little more!! :)

thanks for volunteering to do this!!

also thinking the would be great to have a paddle aft of the presentation.

  14. Mary,

I believe the flares in question are normally sold by New England Small Craft. In fact they are the only retailer I could find that actually stocked this item. I had been searching for this pencil launcher kit for over a year. I picked up a set of three flares with the launcher from Brad and Joel in mid-October. At that time I snagged the last one, but they indicated that they would be restocking it. If I recollect correctly they were selling the kit for about $30. I thought it was a nice deal.

    Hey, thanks for that info!!

southern tier of NY....I worked in Steuben ct for several years, living under the border in PA for 15. Loved it!!!!
