  1. Jeff, I can switch the camping reservation to your name. When you know how many people are going, I'll help you find parking. Liz
  2. I am so sorry but I can no longer make the July 8-9 date. If you still want to go then, I can help with finding parking and the other local details. Or, I can change the reservation to August 12-13. Liz
  3. I have a Lotus Design/Patagonia short sleeve dry (latex gaskets at neck and sleeves) that I bought years ago and wore only a few times. Size Medium. If you want to try it, I''ll sell it for $25. It is a breathable fabris, but not Gortex. PM me if interested. Liz
  4. Off the water no later than 4 PM works for me. When you say Manchester, do you mean the harbor or Tucks? Liz
  5. What time do you expect to finish and be off the water? Liz
  6. Hi Jeff, We can work out the details closer to July 8, when we have an idea of conditions. Please send me your contact info by PM. Thanks, Liz

This will be a CAM trip so we will plan the details together. If you are interested in coming, reply here and send me a PM with your contact info. I told the keeper we would be a group of 10, but that is very flexible. Here are the basics: read about Thacher Island here: http://thacherisland.org/ $5 per person landing fee (unless you are a member of the Thacher Island Association), plus $5 per person camping fee. The keeper will come to meet us, collect the cash, and have us sign the waiver form. The N. lighthouse is closed because a big piece of granite fell off. But, the keeper will meet us at an agreed-upon time and open the S. lighthouse (coast guard owned) if we want to climb up it. (She did that for people who wanted to watch the sunrise.) We should take time to hike around the island. And, conditions permitting, will likely paddle around it. We have to bring ALL water (there is NONE available) and carry out ALL trash. There is a toilet facility. Bring insect repellent. The ant problem is reduced, but not eliminated. Poison ivy has been controlled on the paths. If the weather turns bad, we will cancel. No money committed in advance. July 8: leave from put in (TBD, based on how far people want to paddle with loaded boats. There are lots of ways to do this). We will need to leave cars at a safe location overnight and that might mean some shuttling. Time also TBD, but we will want to arrive in plenty of time to haul our boats up the ramp and move gear to the campsite area. For those new to kayak camping, packing boats can take a lot longer than you think. Dinner: we could bring food and cook there, or paddle into Rockport. Note: full moon is Sunday night so it will be very light out (unless it is cloudy). July 9: Breakfast at campsite or paddle to Rockport load boats and depart, route of choice back to put in, get cars. Liz

  9. We are on for July 8. I posted the trip on the trips page. Please look there if you are interested. Liz
  10. I have been playing phone tag with the Thacher Keeper. Will let you know when I reach her. Liz
  11. I left a message for the keeper asking about space on July 8. If there is space, I'll post here and put the trip up on the trips page. Liz
  12. Might anyone be interested in an overnight trip to Thacher Island? We had camping trips there years ago: infestations of ants, poison ivy and aggressive gulls. But they have done a lot of work to clean it up. http://www.thacherisland.org/campground.html For those interested in trying kayak camping, this could be an accessible way to do it. A (near) full moon night would be fun, such as July 8 or August 5. People who did not want to camp, could just enjoy the full moon paddle. Liz
  13. Chiming it late, here (Judy Whipple and I were in New Zealand with Scott Camlin and Bethny Uptegrove. Alas, did not paddle.) Toyota did get me the crossbars for the 2016 Prius I bought in June, finally, in October. They work fine with my Thule aero-type saddles. But, they are fairly close together. So, the re-designed Prius (or Prius wagon which is larger) is also an option for folks. I do not know if Thule ever got their fit kit to market for this car. Liz
  14. I was in Patagonia (Lago Argentino, Beagle Channel, Ushuaia) about 20 years ago and would to return to paddle there. Hard to see it happening in this lifetime, though. Absolutely spectacular. Liz
  15. Under the Kayaking Resources tab there are several links in the Weather, Tides, Navigation Etc. category that no longer work. What link is best these days for our local marine forecast? Liz
  16. It was a great day on the water. Thanks Rob for organizing this and keeping us focused. Liz
  17. I need to be off the water by 4 PM, at the latest. Liz
  18. No matter how many times I do this trip, I still love it. Thanks Joe, for posting. Liz
  19. Yes, I would love to. I can launch my transit-challenged kayak off my rocks, paddle over to Lanes , and meet you at 8:30 AM. Liz
  20. OK.., BTW, I meant long evenings, not lone evenings. :-) Liz
  21. I need to get on the water. Anyone interested in enjoying the lone evenings and sunsets with me? Launch time flexible. Liz
  22. Somewhere around here I have rusty Thule bars, feet, cradles, etc. Maybe I should dig them out. I bought a new Thule set up, with Aero bars, but they are "stripped" and I don't know if I can get them off my current car. Liz
