  1. I would like to come on this trip. I have enjoyed it before. Bill
  2. Yes, there are the usual potholes, but my Camry handled them OK about a month ago.
  3. I am planning a paddle around Gloucester Harbor around 10 AM to about 2 PM from Greasy Pole. If anyone is interested, please post. I am flexible on the time and place to launch. Usual show and go precautions. Bill
  4. Ed: Those photos were truly great! Thanks for sharing. Bill Lord
  5. I am definetly interested in this trip. I don't know how many can be accommodated, I believe MITA likes about 6 for camping on the islands. Bill
  6. That was fantastic! Thank you for posting the video. I wish we had something like that around here. Bill
  7. Heidi: I got a good full face mask for $20. at Sports Authority. They have a whole rack of them. Bill
  8. I would be interested in all of the above and I too will need to watch the posting schedule. I work 6 out of 8 weekends and a rotating schedule. I would be interested in some midweek trips if they fall on the right days. I will also take VC time.
  9. I have a bad corrosion problem with the zippers on my deck bag and first aid bag. Dee mentioned zipper wax as an item to carry in an emergency kit. REI does not carry it but suggested using parafin or ski wax. I just want to use the best substance to prevent salt water damage without making a mess of my bags. Anyone know of a good product? Thanks, Bill
  10. Todd: I'm not going today but I believe that after Labor Day you can get away with parking at Tuck's Point. Happy paddling. Bill
  11. Are there any more details coming on this trip? It used to fill up very quickly. Will it be an overnight and two day trip as in the past? Will we reserve a motel? Thanks and regards, Bill
  12. I would like to come along. Please advise if there are any changes. Bill
  13. No one drowned at the lake. A man swam accross the lake and was arrested by police after rescue personnel spent several hours looking for him.
  14. FYI: if there are fireworks in Marblehead on that night, they usually shoot them off form the causeway or from a barge nearby. You will not get near Riverhead. There is a little beach in Marblehead called Grace Oliver's on Beacon St. and you can park on the street. It is right near Brown's Island (Crowninshield) and would be very handy to Salem, Beverly and Marblehead displays. Bill Lord
  15. I would be interested, either of the suggested places are good. Bill Lord
  16. I believe that we are way behind in dealing with the environmental problems caused by the continued use of fossil fuels. The fact that our leaders in government have personal stakes in big oil just exacerbates the problem. Windfarms can provide power with minimal impact on the environment. They have to be installed somewhere and the fact that the first windfarm in this area will be in the back yards of the rich is just too @#&* bad! I agree that someday, the mills will actually be an attraction that people will fight to preserve. Look at the windmills in Holland, can you imagine if anyone proposed something like that today? This is a good thing and I would like to see some installed in the North Shore area.
  17. I would like to stop by sometime. I work a rotating schedule so would have to know when you are available. Bill
  18. When is the camping session in March? There is nothing on the calendar. Bill
  19. I know its late but I was hoping to get better directions to the putin as I would like to join you on your paddle Saturday. I know where the Strawberry Bank launch ramp is. If you can give me a little more direction I will meet you there. Bill Lord
  20. I had the same problem with my Swiss Army knife. I had it in my lifejacket pocket and it froze up too. I used WD-40 and oil and just kept working it and now it is OK. After examining the knife, I realized that although the blades and tools are made from stainless, the plates in between appear to be aluminim. Neither stainless nor aluminum rust but add salt water and the aluminum plates corrode from electolosis. I am not sure that putting this knife in another electrolosis environment is going to help it. Either way the swiss army knife does not appear to be a good tool for use around salt water.
