  1. Ern: Perhaps we could let you know what island we decide on an meet up there on Thursday. Wednesday works best for Tom and I. Bill
  2. Tom H and I are planning a 3 day, 2 night camping expedition from Deer Isle and staying on a MITA island (tbd) in the area. We'd like to have up to 6 participants as that seems to be the average capacity of the islands. However, if there is much interest, I'm sure we can accomodate more. We plan on parking at the Old Quarry Campground in Stonington and launching from there, camping on a MITA island and exploring during the days. This will be a level 3, CAM kayak trip and destinations, etc., will be agreed upon by the group. Please reply here if interested. Bill
  3. Joel at NESC does plastic welding. You might want to contact him and see if he can make that kind of repair. Bill
  4. Great pictures, Doug! Great trip! Bill
  5. Jeff: I am interested, will send you an e-mail. Bill
  6. On Wednesday, June 3rd, Gene, Leon and I set out from Tuck's Point, went to Magnolia Harbor for lunch and returned via around Kettle Island. Gene even landed on Singing Beach without the bullhorns blaring and a convergence of 10 life guards to keep our huge vessels from landing on their precious beach. A very nice paddle with no wind, no rain and no stink pots.
  7. Gene and others: Looks like Wednesday is the best chance, weather wise, will check tonight and decide, will post. Is 10 AM at Tuck's OK or do you need 11:00? Bill
  8. Yes, the weather may cancil or at least head it toward sheltered waters if it is iffy. Bill
  9. Anyone interested in a moderate trip somewhere on the North Shore? Start time around 10 or so. Bill
  10. I agree with all the above- great day, great company, great trip. Here are a few photos of the gang. http://community.webshots.com/album/571757006vwUwpo Best regards, Bill
  11. I may be mistaken, but I believe the 50-50-50 rule says that if the water is 50 degrees and you are 50 yards from shore, you have a 50% chance of making it to shore. There is no way anyone could survive for 50 minutes in 50 degree water unprotected. Bill
  12. I will commit to the Pavillion to Lane's Cove trip. We should unload at Pavillion and then bring one or two cars to Lane's, depending on how many will be taking out there. Bill
  13. I am interested and would consider the Lane's Cove takeout if someone can leave a car there. Bill
  14. The Garmen 400C looked good to me too because of the big screen and pre-loaded blue charts, however, after reading the reviews I would stay away from it. You cannot program it from your computer, is not compatible with Apple and has limited battery life.
  15. As Cliff Clavin once said on "Cheers", "Women have that exta layer of fat....."
  16. I think lowering the seat and the 25-30lbs of ballast I put in the boat gave her a lot more initial stability. The only drawback, with so much ballast in her, she is hard to lean and turn. One good thing though, I almost kept up with Leon, which tells me that she is a lot faster than my Captiva.
  17. Leon and Ernie: I sent you both a PM. Bill
  18. Let's take advantage of the high tide. A leisurely paced paddle around Castle Neck thru Fox Creek. Lunch on South end of Crane's. BIB 11:00 AM, rain date Tuesday, 9/30. Open to other ideas too. Bill
  19. Hi Leon, Ernie: I would like to go as well. Bill
  20. Here are some photos of the great adventure. http://good-times.webshots.com/album/566047100ACzCzP
  21. On MITA islands they ask that you use only driftwood for fuel for fires and to leave any dead or fallen brush as-is. The decaying foliage provides the only source of dirt for these islands.
  22. The current plan is to launch from Salem Willows. If you Google this you can see to take rt. 1A to Webb St. in Salem. Go to the lights and turn left on Szetela Ln and drive about 1/2 mile. You will see the beach on your left and a ball field on your right. There is parking right there. We will scope it out and if OK, launch from there, if not, we'll go to Winter Island ($5.) and go from there. Meet 10:00 AM Thursday.
