  1. Drive in from the western/ Portsmouth side and use the little parking lot by the bridge and you avoid the detour. The park side is shut down for now. The western side could be dicey on a weekday with the construction but free on weekends.
  2. If it is just a couple of cracks in the blade I would overlay a sheet of glass on the blade and tint it with graphite. But..It will never be the same....if you can keep the patch small, balance may not matter. If the damage is where it joins the shaft it is most likely time to save for the new half. I would love to see a picture of the damage. Paul
  3. Done the Moose River and hit some 2 ish stuff but had to portage others. Problem is the rocks....other places and times I felt I could have run rapids easy but had a glass or wood boat. It is not the same as parking and playing on a standing wave, as you know if you miss a line and hit a rock it is over. Maybe yours is plastic?
  4. I have dealt with Grace products and not found them any different than bituthane, some are thicker or need primers... Other than denso, the best stuff I have seen is the door and window flashing (6"x25' roll) from Home Depot. It is a little thinner than Grace or Bit and easy to work with. About 25$ All this stuff likes a dry surface...
  5. I am curious to know weather the hatch was: A, loose inside the hatch ? B, installed and fully sealed? C, just under the bungies ? thanks,
  6. If I can get free this sunday I would prefer somewhere other than Portsmouth. I think I could go through the Gerrish marsh with a blindfold on......
  7. Didn't get free fireworks this year so I tried to fire a couple of outdated flares and they were both duds...I thought one might go off.. So I threw them in the fire and they went off after a few minutes..
  8. Kevin, Mail me at psylatmetrocast.net re: friday thanks, Paul
  9. Dissing the King of knots... But they taught me that it won't "slip jam or fail" you can "tow a barge and undo it" Surely you are not using 3 strand poly crap ??
  10. I was up to Tangier, NS and Fundy with an advanced class ( 5 star) through Coastal Adventures in 06. It was 3 days out of Tangier camping and training. Very undeveloped, camp anywhere, no people, many islands. Then we did a day at the top of Fundy where it pushes back the Shubenacadia (sp) river to create rows of standing waves for a fun ride up the river. Started with many acres of red mudflats then the 45' tide comes and sets things in motion. Not for the faint at heart. Two days were spent at a tidal race in NB called Cape d'Or. You should get it on Goole earth. Just a point that sticks out and creates a fun play spot. Beware if you get near this..in fact you may not get near it if you plan it wrong. The area around Cape d'Or has tall cliffs, sea caves and large features. It is very different from New England whereas the east of NS is like our backyard with no people. Did not get to the national park or the Flower Pots but can tell from the pictures it is similar looking. In sept. east NS will have warmer water, maybe 58- 60 but Fundy is much colder,as in drysuit needed. I have some pictures on webshots and will try to link on this posting... Fundy is 3-4 hours closer than Tangier, NS and so different from NE that it is a must see for people that have the skills and like to camp ( car or boat). Spend a week and you could do a day or two in Eastport, ME. Get the charts and study the ebb and flow before you go....
  11. Easy, easy all, peace love and understanding...glad I didn't include g- sticks or rudders... But, with all due respect to German craftsmanship, there is no way I am looking at A4's or a diesel Mercedes. It is not me or my budget since I drive too much. Enjoy all the comments about handling but it is low on the list. Driving my Park ave. is like riding down the road on a big comfy couch and that is fine with me. Sorry, but the Fit is ugly to me.... Just shopping and learning...
  12. Mike, Yes I have, two people close to me have them and I ride in one every other day to work. Seems to be one of the best values to buy.. I like them fine but just shopping/learning. Just something about the new civic....
  13. I can handle a Subie plug...I love them, but...I have already checked them out and have ruled them out for now because of the 25-27 mpg. If I can buy a good used Buick for short money and get 25.5 to 27 mpg why pay the premiun for the Subie? Nothing like a Buick with Yaks on top...... Just shopping looking and learning.
  14. A few thoughts from your responses: Can't do 24-26k for the Prius, I am just too tight, Don't like Mini Coopers..... just not me. I'll check out the others mentioned. Don't care about the hit you take on mileage when hauling since I only haul one day a week at best. Really care about the feel on the highway with two boats on top and the strain on the engine. I used to travel up to the mountains in a 78 Subaru and the thing would not go above 50 up some of the inclines (auto trans) no matter that the pedal was to the floor. I know that the cars have come along way but am wondering how they fare at 70mph in a headwind. Really like the new Civic and I can make the numbers work I just need insight (not a Insight) on the hiway details. Wondering about loads on the roof also....... Thanks to all,
  15. Want to hear from Civic owners or others that drive the small 4 cylinder cars. No subies please, I only care about 34-36 mpg cars and I get 25.5 mpg in my Buick now. When you put one or two 18' kayaks on these small cars can you make headway in a wind? Do they bog down and not go above certain speeds because they are working so hard? Yes, I understand gas mileage would take a beating, my concerns are only with keeping up at hiway speeds without killing it and bogging down excessively. It would be a auto transmission. I am all done with sticks. thanks for you thoughts
  16. I have 3 mm and some 4 mm scraps but I am in Milton NH. It is most likely 4 mm on the hull and you should patch it with a similar thickness. You can use glass or more plywood on the inside. I would use glass inside to back it up. Assume you are using epoxy? Polyester is not the best... How big of a piece?
  17. Can you send me a mail at psylatmetrocast.net I don't believe I have your current address.... One ticket, check is in the mail... Note the time I'm sending this, busy as heck, need water bad. thanks, Paul
  18. Pintail, Hope I can make it this time around. Any idea where to get tickets? Hope he is doing a mix of songs because I certainly would like to hear Vincent and others I forget the names of..... Assigned or open seating? I'd be solo I believe.... Paul
  19. Have not kept up on all the changes.. a question .....nspn has "no connection to the ACA" correct? So we get our own ACA membership if needed? thanks
  20. Google it and post your thoughts. Can this be true? And if so why isn't it a world superfund site?
  21. The flyer this year said they were going to have a "dog weekend" in the fall. I believe they enforce the rule at other times.
  22. I am going out on monday, somewhere near Portsmouth and was going to post for other interested paddlers. Since most have to work I 'll plan on joining you. Don't know any put ins in Ogunquit, But there is the Saco/ Biddeford pool paddle or York/ Nubble paddle as an alternate. Could plan on some skills play if there is interest..... Paul
