  1. Hi,

Darn--so it was my high heels that caused the problem? Silly me !! But I looked soo good with a too large helmet, white sunscreen smeared on my face, in drysuit with those lil' black high heels - I thought it was quite the fashion statement --thanks for noticing Bob !!!

Yes, Barry --that would be great to bring your goods --

  2. There is considerable amount of wear and tear on the fiberglass area where my heels are positioned. I have never repaired a fiberglass cockpit before although I have made a Night Heron; so I know the procedure, more or less (it has been awhile). Can anyone suggest a method for doing this type of repair? Is there special materials or procedures for the cockpit other than the general instructions for fiberglass repair? Also, any particular resin and catalyst anyone can recommend?

Thanks in advance for any information or tips,

    Les (SF)

  3. I'm better with 11AM but I don't wish to be picky and will do what ever the majority is happy with. I think Tuck's is fine-don't know if the baths are open yet but in a pinch the Yacht Club probably is.

  4. Hello Patricia,

I remember paddling with Don on several NSPN trips. He also helped me when I had my Epic paddle locked. He was very kind to me and he worked on trying to get it unstuck but, to no avail. I am sorry to hear of his death.

Don't worry about being rusty--most of us are rusty this time of year.

  5. Hey Rick,

This is fabulous that you, Tom and others are putting these events together. I am interested in the two sessions and possible the third (depending on the date). Having attended last year's RWS in RI, I highly recommend these sessions to other NSPN paddlers--excellent hands-on-instructions by quality instructors.

Can you give more detail on where and how to sign up--went to Tom's website but it is not clear how to sign up for these events.

  6. While the paddler is clearly a good roller and comfortable under water, it is amazing how he finds unique and interesting ways to recover. These are not Greenland rolls (for the most part) as most are done wrong and/or mislabeled.

People interested in learning Greenland rolls can attend Walden Qajaq Society pool sessions and meetups or take classes with Cheri and Turner. We are fortunate to live in an area where a number of people knowledgeable in Greenland rolling are available to help you. The paddler in this video probably does not have the resources available to him that we have.

Recent local pool session videos of Greenland rolls can be seen here:

A good video of a series of Greenland rolls, with and without paddle, can be viewed here:

A good collection of rolling videos of individual rolls can be seen at Cheri and Turners site, kayakways.net

  7. Found a water pump in cockpit when taking kayak off car last night after the pool session. It is a red Wilderness Systems model. Either post here or PM to arrange pick up.

    Bob

I think its mine, Bob--I am going to be at Haverhill pool session next Saturday and at Portsmouth tomorrow afternoon--if it has a white spot on the form part of the pump--it is definitely mine.

  8. I do the newspaper/burrito thing, all enclosed in a ziplock bag. I dont bother with powders, wag bags etc. I then put that in a welding rod tube, and stuff that in the rear hatch, way up on one side of the skeg box.

Some just put in a drybag without a rigid tube, with no problems, but the thought of a squishy drybag full of... that, inside a compartment with a all my other stuff turns my mood ring black.

A rigid tube may or may not be needed. May be irrational, but like much of life , it more comes down to how you feel about it.

I second the welding tube--buy it at Home Depot-not expensive-clips easily and securely on the back deck lines if you don't want it next to any of your stuff in the hatches--my preference--the tube also holds the odor down-or you can store it near the skeg box as Peter suggests--

Have used with this system--burrito newspaper--local newspaper works better than national newspapers for some reason--wrap each burrito in a zip lock bag (freezer type)--put in shittubby welding rod tube -- deck or inside hatches--all set for multi-day trips--

  9. Such a great place to hold a pool session. Good friends & lots of fun. Easy in, easy out. Crystal clear warm water & hot showers. A nice place to take pictures. Here are a few with some "fish eye" and "pin hole" shots and a couple self portraits from my deck mount.

Portsmouth pool sessions are worth the drive for all the reasons Doug suggest. I look like a giant water bug. Thanks to Gail Lawson for letting me try her skin on frame boat. A tight fit but fun to roll. Not sure I could stand being so confined for long periods of time but for rolling, the boat was fun.

I would like to dispel the myth that skin-on-frames are easier to roll than a composite. My experience is that the roll in these boats is different not easier.
