  1. To those who are interested -

We have 3 people signed up for this workshop with Greg. It is now open to being offered either July or August and looks like August is the best bet for people. Looking at the 3rd or 10th of August. Are they really going to miss you at work on a Friday during August? Think how much better you will feel surfing with performance coaching.

The cost of the workshop is dependent on number of participants and location.

This is a great opportunity to have quality instruction at reasonable cost.

Post your interest here or send me a pm

  3. Two people have signed up for this performance surf training. Location is determined by the group (NH or RI). This is an excellent opportunity to fine tune those surfing skills (beach landing, riding the wave, turning, etc) with quality instruction. The one-on-one instruction that Greg gives his students is well worth the price of admission. You don't need much surf experience but you do need the desire to improve your skills.

Post your interest here or pm me.

  4. Based on the successful moving water workshop, Greg P. is willing and available to offer to NSPN members a performance surf workshop. This workshop is open to participant input on its design. It can be one or two days, a week day or weekend option. it can be located in NH (cheaper price) or we can go to RI (slightly more expensive but more surf options).

If we decide to do it at Hampton, the price is 500 bucks a day with cost of Greg's dinner. Six people makes this more than affordable.

RI location is Greg's rate of per person somewhere in the 130+ bucks per day.

So depending on what six people want - we can arrange a day of surf instruction for those who have surf experience and want to fine tune their skills.

NOTE: I do not benefit financially from organizing these workshops - Pass it forward model.

Send me a PM to let me know your interest: weekday (a Friday most likely) or weekend in July. One or two days; NH location (could be good surf on that day or not) or RI (slightly more money but better chances of good surf).

  5. Unless it is pouring cats and dogs at 5:00 pm, Walden Practice Session is on.

See you all between 5 and 5:30. We need to be off the water by 7:30 not 8:00.

The water is warm but the air may be cool - so dress with that in mind.

Should be a lovely evening to be on the water.

  6. This training workshop with Greg P. is closed. There are 6 NSPN participants enrolled for a full day of instruction. Those 6 participants please read the following guidelines:

    1. The cost of $500 is shared among the 6 participants plus contribute to the cost of Greg's dinner. (Does anyone know of a good but reasonable place to eat in Portsmouth?)

    2. You have committed yourself to participation in this training. If you do not make the training for some reason, you are still responsible for your share of the $500 (excluding dinner cost).

    3. The launch site is Pierce Island. Please arrive promptly at 9:00 if not a wee bit earlier. We need to be on the water by 10 sharp (BIB 10:00). Beach briefing will be conducted before 10:00. There is a $5 charge for parking.

    4. Bring lunch, water, snacks, sunscreen, etc - you know the routine.

    5. Have helmet will travel. Also, the forecast calls for a warm day but you will be swimming in not so warm water. Think about wearing a drysuit or at least a wet suit.

    6. Bring signed waiver forms plus check covering your share of the training cost: 6 divided into $500 = $84.00 per person.

    7. Euro or greenland paddle can be used during this training -whatever you are most comfortable with using. I am passing on the wing - euro for me.

Greg did mention that he has some Reed chillcheater clothing for sale. He may bring a box full of Reed stuff to sell. If you are interested in some Reed clothing bring some extra money or checks.

  7. It looks like the weather for Wednesday is going to be just fine for the Wladen skills session. So it is a go unless it is pouring dogs and cats.

Try to arrive around 5 and we can help you unload your boat. If you arrive later, look for us at the far end of the Pond. We usually paddle across the Pond to our practice site.

The parking for the launch is a wee bit farther down the road from the main parking lot on the right. It is bumpy ride down the hill to the launch so take it easy on the car.

I will arrive early around 4:30. So if people want to get to Walden early that is fine too!!!

  9. I have been watching the forecast and there is a probability of rain later on today and tonight. Probably a good idea to postpone this session until next week the 13th.

    See you then,

  10. For those who might be interested,

I have arranged with Greg Paquin to do this workshop locally in New Hampshire. There are four of us already signed up and two more people would be ideal (total: 6). The cost for the total workshop is $500 plus buy Greg dinner at a local spot (not 5 *). If six people split the cost of $500 plus dinner the arrangement is very reasonable for a full day of training on the water with a skilled coach ($84.00 per person plus Shared cost of Greg's dinner). See below for more details and you can check out Greg's website:

If you are interested in participating in this workshop or have questions, send me a PM or post here. This is not a beginner's workshop and some experience in moving water is probably a good idea.

  11. Hi Connor,

At the Walden Pond sessions on Wednesday, students who are interested in rolling get guidance, primarily Greenland (stick) but there is help with the euro paddle roll. Learning Greenland style rolls comes in handy when trying to master euro paddle rolls - but I am sure people will disagree with me - it is my humble opinion. Nevertheless, last year's Walden sessions produced three first-time rollers and, many more who had a roll, lost it, only to find it again.

A gentle note that taking rolling classes is helpful for pointers - but it is practice, practice, practice with a mentor who can point out what you are doing wrong that helps with the muscle memory and technique.

The comment on the pool sessions is misguided. The pool sessions give opportunities to practice rolling with guidance in the dead of winter. For some of us, it is quite the workout (2 1/2 hours) and it gets us ready for the paddling season.

  12. Does any one know good put-in near or in Portsmouth? I know Pierce Island is not available for a launch during the summer months.

Seavey Creek/Odiorne launch is too far away. Any other locations within Portsmouth limits, preferably on the NH side of the River?

Looking to park 3-4 cars on a Friday (9:30-4:00), and play in moving waters of the Piscataqua River.

    Thanks in advance,

    Les
