  1. Can anyone that has used or does use a "waterproof bag" on there marine radio tell me how you find its effectiveness and does it impeded the radios usefullness? I have just recieved a notice from West Marine "that some of there handheld VHF radios were not completely waterproof with prolonged submersion in water". "Models include West Marine VHF50, VHF100 and VHF200 and Seafit V5, V10 and V20" They offer a FREE waterproof bag or you can return the radio for a full refund at any of there stores if you are not satisfied with its performance. I have a VHF50. Thus I am trying to determine whether to get the bag or the refund? Thanks Walter Impex Serenity Sunburst/Ivory ...Kayaks are an intrepid craft.....

  12. I have a dry suit without socks. Is there an alternative that will get me through the winter? Has or does any one use SealSkinz waterproof socks? Or some other type of foot wear that keeps there feet warm and dry with a dry suit when they are submerged in the water? I believe Kokatat has a sock that is waterproof. Has or does anyone us it? I have read what the sites say but I am scepticall and thus interested in first hand knowledge of the products and how you well you found them top work? Thanks Walter Impex Serenity Sunburst/Ivory

  16. A good place to get some information on this subject is http://atlantickayaktours.com/Pages/Expert...igation-1.shtml. This is written for kayakers. We might be able to get someone from the Coast Guard Auxillary or Power Squadron that teaches this to come. I believe there course is about 9 weeks, two hours a night per week. I am going by memory. There course included a lot of practice in class. So you had an opportunity to get a skill explained and then you practied in class implemeting it yourself. If you had trouble the instructor was there to help. All this would have to be confirmed. The Cost Guard Auxillary Page for classes is http://home.comcast.net/~division4-1nr/pe.htm They have a Basic Navigation Course, Advanced Navigation Course and a GPS Navigation Course. Just a thought. 20. I bought a Palm Sidewinder Dry Suit in April,2004 from Doug Gray at Billington Sea Kayak in Plymouth. He added booties to it over the summer. The left boot leaked in November after Liz's Cold water demo. I called Doug Gray on Friday before Thanksgiving and by Wednesday before Thanksgiving I had a replacement suit delivered to my home. I cann't be happier with the service I received from Doug Gray and MTI Adventurewear. By the way they did not have any of the Sidewinder Suits so they sent me an upgraded suit the Stikine with a single tunnel waist system and a water proof relief zipper. I could not ask for a Retailer or Manufacter to do any more. A replacement suit in four business days. WOW! Walter Mears Essex, Ma. Impex Serenity Sunburst/Ivory
  21. Thank you Liz for hosting this event. I would also like to thank all the members that participated. It was a great day on the water. There was great suggestions and thought stimulating ideas presented about dressing for the cold and preparing mentally as well for the cold. Clothes layering to the extent that you are comfortable. Carring additional clothes for inclement weather(rain, snow, cold).Carring hot drink. Before getting in kayak getting into the water and splashing water on face and then putting face into water to experience the cold water which might cause you to shock reflex. The checking of your skirt to make sure it is not restricted in coming off as a result of it being frozen to the deck. The presentations and practices were right on and gave all that attended and opportunity,in a controlled environment,to experience current conditions. With the highlight, the food after the event. It was five star. Walter Impex Serenity Sunburst/Ivory
  22. Thanks Liz for the directions and for hosting this valuable event. Walter Impex Serenity Sunburst/ Ivory
  23. Suz Cann't thank you enough for organizing this event. Cheri's presentation Saturday night was TERRIFFICCC. The pictures were outstanding. Cheri's candid and personal explanation of her trip and explotes was music to ones ears. Sundays practice session was like no other I have attended. Mucho Gratias to the mentors and members of the Society. The help they provided me helped me to bring my kayak skills to a new high which translates to more fun on the water with my kayak. If would like to get together with them again. Thanks again. Walter Impex Serenity Sunburst / Ivory
  24. Thank you for changing what ever you changed. The pictures were great as well as the trip report. It is a very beautifull area to paddle. I wish I had been with you. Walter Impex Serenity Sunburst / Ivory
  25. Thanks Rick, supporting helpers and attending members. It was a great day on the water. Learned a lot. It was good to have an opportunity to meet new people and get the opportunity to practice and play with fellow paddlers. It was great to learn rescues in 4-6ft seas with winds gusting to 40mph(:-)) (:-)).Weatherman was right on! John, thanks for showing me how not to get stuck in the rocks(:-)). It was better me rescuing you than you rescuing me(:-)). Know if someone could just tell me how to get my body to stop hurting so much? It would thank you. Walter Impex Serenity Sunburst / Ivory
