  1. Would love some general tips about tides and winds to plan for paddling out to Thacher.
  2. Man, what a bummer to have to cancel. This summer is rough for weekend paddles for me so far. I really hope I'll be able to see y'all out on the water at some point this season.
  3. Ugh, forecast not looking promising! Will check again Friday and hope for improvement.
  4. Beth and I kicked off the paddle around 2:45 pm, turning a tipsy launch into a skill building moment, running through a T-rescue. The paddle out of the Jones River and north to the Annisquam Light was quite nice. Lots of power boats on the water and anchored at Wingaersheek Beach. Being aware of boat traffic and wake action was key to successful channel crossings. We found a cute patch of sea grass just to the north of the lighthouse where we took a break to stretch and take in the surrounding view. On the return trip, we were into the wind which was starting to build a little as predicted. The current was proving quite strong on the eastern side of the Annisquam River along with the wind. We then made an earlier crossing just north of the Annisquam Yacht Club over to Wingaersheek where the currents were calmer. Lots of anchored boats with all sorts kicking off their weekends. Once we were able to nose into the mouth of the Jones River, it was a relief to be protected and take a more relaxed pace back to the ramp. Total journey was around 4 nm.
  5. Certainly fine to check in later. I’m going to see how the weather is shaping up on Wednesday. Going to retitle this thread soon once I can get some details about launch fees and roughly estimate distances. We have not paddled together yet but may have both been at the Portsmouth kick-off. Look forward to paddling with you soon!
  6. The more the merrier, Vladimir!
  7. Rock on! You have any spots you were keen to paddle this summer?
  8. Hey there Barbara! Would you be up for a paddle in the Back River down in Weymouth and Hingham? Ends up that Jim will be tied up with other things next Sunday. We could meet at the Weymouth ramp for 9 and enjoy some slack water either side of high tide. There’s also a bunch of islands down that way that could also be fun to paddle around.
  9. Hmm, I’ve never given WU much of a try. Mainly use National Weather Service marine forecast and Windy. It’s a bum that you have to pay now to see a full 11-day forecast on Windy.
  10. Oh certainly early to be looking at weather. I meant that we’d take a look at weather Wed for the Sunday. I was starting to wonder what weather service you had that was predicting that far out.
  11. Thanks Jim! Weather check on Wednesday?
  12. Looking to meet up with some paddlers and get out on the water next Sunday. Open to suggestions for location. Have been curious to get down to the South Shore of Boston Harbor or see more in Portsmouth, NH.
  13. Change of plans for me this weekend. So I won’t be making it out. Hope y’all have a nice paddle!
  14. Marine forecast looks like we prob won’t make it out of the river. But we’ll have plenty of cool coves to check out. S winds 5 to 10 kt, increasing to 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 20 kt in the afternoon. Seas around 2 ft. Patchy fog. Vsby 1 nm or less. Def a dress for immersion paddle. Very much looking forward to getting out on the water.
  15. Got all the paperwork taken care of. Rock and roll!
  16. What other devices to folks use to track/record your paddle path?
  17. Looking to meet at Long Wharf Landing, Gloucester, MA at 2:00 pm for a fun time experiencing nature and building sea kayaking skills. Will head north on the Annisquam River towards Ipswich Bay. Conditions permitting we’ll check out Annisquam Light and beyond. Snack and stretch break after around 1.5 hours of paddle time. Reenergized we’ll get back on the water to continue exploring and to practice edging, bracing, assisted rescues etc (all optional) as we head back to Long Wharf to wrap up the paddle around 6:00 pm. All skills welcome! Float plan details to be collected via Google Form. High tide @ 3:23 PM Please register at the calendar listing here:
  18. until
Come out for a paddle in the Annisquam River starting from Long Wharf landing in Gloucester, MA. For more details, read the post on the message board. All skills welcome!
  19. Hmm, as I understand, start of green head season would be first July full moon? Which if I'm right, that would be July 3. Maybe next Thursday or Friday?
  20. Hmm, weather looking a little iffy for this coming Thursday (June 29). Will come out as long as the chance of a thunderstorm has passed.
  21. Would like to get out in the Ipswich River and Plum Island Sound this summer. Is anyone else interested? My availability is generally going to be on the weekends but sometimes I have some flexibility in my work schedule or time to use for weekdays. Skill level wise I'm a novice that has just learned basic strokes, wet exit, and T rescues. I'm quite familiar with the two areas from a motor boat perspective.
  22. Nice vid Fred! Can’t believe you caught a guy who got kind of close!
