  1. Hi Jim, Interested! (Ali seemed keen on the idea too)
  2. Hi Jane, sorry to Hijack the thread, but there is also an alternative trip from Rye hbr tomorrow for the NH lepers. Otw at 11. PM me if interested. Nick p.s pink ooze?
  3. Jim, Count me in for NH paddles Thanks Nick
  4. Yup - I'm a big fan of the gore-tex bivvi bag as an extra layer - surprisingly warm, considering how thin it is. Mind you, I lost mine for a year or so. Eventually found it wedged right up in the bow of my boat
  5. For now I stand as one upon a rock environed with a wilderness of sea, who marks the waxing tide grow wave by wave, expecting ever when some envious surge will in his brinish bowels swallow him. oh - I see, sorry Andy Nick
  6. Right - Sea-lect it is - I just have to find someone who has them in stock now... Thanks N
  7. Neither of the two day-hatch covers I've bought for my Explorer seem entirely satisfactory. The NDK one has lasted about a year and cracks are appearing, It also never looks like it's on properly, even when it is. The alternative Kayaksport one sits nicely and seems to last well but is slightly loose, the contents of my day hatch always get slightly damp as a result. To save me the expensive process of elimination, can anyone recommend a hatch cover that properly fits the NDK day hatch and lasts more than a year - and preferably has a hole for a tether. thanks Nick
  8. Oh crikey Liz! I winced looking at the photos, I think a repair like that would be beyond my skills I have a friend back in England that did exactly the same thing Nick

Hi Janet, room for 2 more? Ali and I are up for joining thanks Nick
  11. I used to fly on the London - Boston route a lot and the view of the Maine coastline on a clear day was the highlight of the journey (and the reason for always choosing a window seat on the right of the plane). Hardly surprising, but on a recent trip to Muscle ridge I saw no passenger planes whatsoever, not even any con-trails - Just a few Cessnas taking off from Owl's head. You have to take the positives from 2020 where you can get them
  12. We went to launch from the Essex town boat ramp last Monday (for a trip around Choate Is.) and found that to be 'Residents only' - With no Harbour master to ask we went up the street and launched at Perkins marine. They charged $30 for launch fees - (for the party of 3 paddlers). I don't like having to pay to launch a kayak but that did cover parking and the use of (very clean) toilets.
  13. Surprised that one's not a keeper, John ? N
  14. Well, we’re just back from a weekend at old quarry (we’re NH residents!) and I have some rather good news to report. Old quarry campground is open this year and will remain open for the foreseeable. A young entrepreneur (Eric), getting bored during the stay at home weeks earlier this year hatched a plan to run and manage the campground for the current owners. In a deal where the campground stays open, Eric gets a salary and Bill gets a retirement income. Win-win-win. I can report that it is still every bit as well appointed, well run and kayaker-friendly as ever whilst being very respectful of all COVID-19 requirements such as cleaning schedules and mask wearing.
  15. Hi Folks, We confirmed at the NSPN committee meeting last night that, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we will be cancelling all club trips, at least for the next couple of months - So unfortunately we will be postponing this trip to Hermit island for the time being. If things look better later in the year I might see if we can run this in the fall. Failing that, it'll be on this time next year. Hope you understand. all the best Nick

ON HOLD - I hope to reschedule this later in the year Back by popular demand! NSPN will be returning to Hermiit Island campground for a paddling weekend; a great location and a lovely stretch of coast https://hermitisland.com/ The plan is to arrive late on Friday and do day paddles on the Saturday and Sunday All NSPN members welcome, details to follow PM me if you'd like to come! (spoiler alert - there is no hermit and it's not on an island)

  18. I already have a flag on the front of my Kayak
  19. We'll bring a gluten-free Chile sin carne (veggie)
  20. Josko, Sadly not. My Palm drysuit died way too early and Palm were having none of it. Very poor customer service compared with Kokotat/ Goretex - you get what you pay for I guess. Does anyone want a sea-kayaker scarecrow? Nick
  21. Hi Rob, we’ll both be there. Ali’s shoulder is still giving her a bit of gyp so she’ll make a decision on the day whether she’s up for the L4 or will opt for an easier paddle
  22. I have quite a few OS maps of British coastal regions, happy to lend if anyone is going there to paddle
  23. TBH, a little bit of me winces when I don’t see a VW badge on the front
  24. Pru, you want to have a look at my new Metris - a great little van (sized between a full size Transit and a Transit connect) By the way, The Kari-tek roof rack is very much the Freight train of the roof rack world; robust, well made, capacious... ...heavy, rattley, un-aerodynamic and a pain to store when you're not using it Nick P.S. I think that's a Metris hiding behind the kayaks in Rob's Kari-Tek photo
