  1. Wouldn’t despise boaters so much if a couple of them occasionally did this for me.
  2. I am so sorry to have missed it and hope that no one got bumped because of me !!! Great to hear that it will become an online course. Looking forward to that. Impressive weather videos including crazy people walking the beach under an advancing storm with lightning all over the place. I particularly like the Coriolis force-demonstration.
  3. Good thing about the Epic paddles: Adjustable length. It depends on whether I'm going upwind or downwind. I'm experimenting with cadence and heart rate, length adjustability comes in handy there. Also still trying to find the best offset angle for me, much higher than my Euro angle, between 45 and 60 degrees.
  4. For me, challenges with the wing paddle are mainly apparent in conditions and rock play. Bracing is ok but not has solid as with Euros based on the relatively exaggerated convexity of the back side of the paddle. Forget maneuvering strokes such as bow rudder or sliding draw. Rolling can be an issue but not impossible, depending on technique. Surfskis are becoming more and more popular around the world and those folks probably all start with wings, which is not to say that is the right thing to do. It's certainly not as user-friendly for a beginner. If you use it like a Euro blade, which I have some locals seen do, it loses its advantages. Wings require a lot more proficiency with the forward stroke. Fatigue, as you pointed out, will result in sloppy technique and the wing loses its power, therefore making it a less ideal paddle for long-distance races, where fatigue is a problem.
  5. Also, the left paddle blade just sliced through the water because of that unnecessary blade offset. That aside, I admire her for her courage, her willingness to put herself in danger and her sheer willpower to get back to the beach.
  6. Nicely executed! What’s the actual danger of an explosion in a case like this?
  7. As a rescuee, I routinely do this because of the usual weight difference relative to other paddlers. It keeps my boat from flipping over my way as I put full weight on it during heel hook. Specifically, I grab the perimeter deck line of the side of my boat facing the rescuer and the adjacent rescuer's boat's perimeter deck line. Not everyone can do this from the water, though, because of arm reach. Gordon Brown promotes this in his teaching videos.
  8. You can rescue me any way you like.....but if you call me "The Wet One" I will capsize you!
  9. Very neat! I like the crane they use. How much of the lake surface is actually harvested?
  10. Thanks, Peter. Impressive selection. I’ll definitely use that place at one point. I’m getting one from Greg Paquin. Andy
  11. Thanks Dave! I’ll try Greg. Good Luck with your skeg problem! Andy
  12. Managed to get the set screw in the knob that operates the skeg stuck in the knob (used too much force). Managed to retrieve the screw partially with a screw extractor bit, enough to slide the knob forward and off the steel rod that it sits on (and that holds the skeg wire) so that I can work on the piece without having to work around the attached kayak. Can't seem to get the set screw out of that plastic knob, though. I tried WD-40. No go. I may have screwed up the threads in the plastic into which the set screw gets screwed. Unless someone can give me good tip how to extract the set screw from the plastic knob, I may have to get a new knob. It's such a cheap little 0.000001 cent part but an important one. Is anyone aware of a place where I can buy this as a spare part, does anyone have an old useable one that they don't need anymore? I'll pay premium dollar :-) Thanks Andy
  13. Nasty spot you were in, Brian. That’s also why I practice my 1/2 (Euro) paddle rolls during pool sessions. Don’t you just hate it when you hear the crunchies!?
  14. Oops! Sorry Jim! Sorry about my little hijack!
  15. Elaborate, please, Brian. Great day for good stories, even short ones!
  16. Not this year Alex, sorry....I got kids :-)
  17. Looks like rolling is cancelled during this (next) year’s NYDP.
  18. Still interested, in winter even more than in summer!
  19. Good to know the CG has our back via VHF-coms. Thanks for all your input.
  20. Thanks for details David! 3 layers under your dry suit. That’s what I was thinking, or rather 2-1/2: Wicking layer, then short sleeve Kokatat “thermal” for decreased arm bulk, then the same onesie you use. Ill try the Maximes at one point, I’ve really liked the Glacier Gloves earlier this year. Andy
  21. For folks more knowledgeable in VHF-matters, could this be useful as a range-extender if one finds the right connection with the usual VHFs we carry? Not to have on the VHF permanently but on the PFD to exchange as needed. https://www.smileyantenna.com/product-p/14610.htm Andy
