  1. We were talking about rec boats once in a workshop when Keith suggested that if we’re not hunting for subsistence it’s recreation. Therefore, an expedition must involve the hunting of seals.
  2. Two P&H boats on my car, and one’s a Cetus. Great camping boat, plenty fast, and I spent much of yesterday surfing in it...which reminds me that it rolls well too.
  3. If you look around at any club day trip or camping trip, you'll see lots of Cetuses (Cetii?) and Explorers, some other P&H and NDK/SKUK boats, and some others. It's rare that you'll see a kayak with a rudder in the club. (Whether these observations suggest that these are the best boats or that we're all sheep I can't answer.) The Cetus and Explorer are proven expedition boats. Since they're popular, used examples from used hard/cheap to almost new are likely to pop up on the market. You could try a Cetus and an Explorer and work out from that baseline for speed/stability/maneuverability/capacity for your needs. Keep in mind that the entire outdoor equipment market, including kayaks and especially drysuits, is largely sold out this year.
  4. Great session, good for anyone doing endurance efforts. It's just hard to eat enough. Recorded session will be posted at https://mita.org/online-events/, along with MITA's other recent events.
  5. Chebacco sessions will run this year, Thursday evenings as always. I'll announce here when they get going.
  6. I just sent my drysuit in for gaskets. Didn't ask them to check it for leaks, as it's been fine. They emailed to say that the fabric had separated and that my suit was in good enough condition to be replaced by a new one under warranty, but lead time is 12 weeks. They've had serious delays from their material supplier, and they're out of stock, as are their dealers across the country. I found one in stock and ordered it, and will get my warranty replacement later. So, Kokatat still backs their product. As Joe said, they never did cover wear and tear.
  7. Yes, kayakoutfitting.com was my first thought. Great for foam blocks for bulkhead, but no specific seat back blocks. Nice people.
  8. You can check-out any time you like,But you can never leave. Yeah, we can go to Maine, but can’t re-enter MA. A get-out-of-jail card won’t get us back in either.
  9. Here's a link to the event: https://www.gcfm.org/events-1/discovering-the-boston-harbor-islands-with-christopher-klein It's open to members of the Garden Club Federation of MA.
  10. Especially when nobody else fits. It’s as good as liking anchovies on your pizza so you can have it all to yourself. (Yuk!)
  11. What’s the problem? Fits me just fine.
  12. We’re gonna need a bigger boat.
  13. I got the message at 7:25 and signed on. They seemed to be running late. Lots of info on physiological reactions. Session on 28 January will be different...case studies and such.
  14. Ed, This forum is not just for commercial events, but any not sponsored by NSPN, as the title suggests. Thanks for letting us know that it’s by SMSKN. Sounds really good.
  15. We’ve seen deer swimming off West Beach. No goats.
  16. It is a shifty looking lot. Masks would improve them.
  17. Considering the ballast, the roll may happen on its own as soon as the passenger on the deck lets go.
  18. "reply box" is the key. Quote the message you want to decode and the A should be there, at least on many browsers.
  19. The poster is a guest, and likely doesn’t check here. I’d suggest emailing him at the address he gives above.
  20. This raises questions: --AAA batteries which can be kept as spares but which can corrode vs rechargeable? --Usefulness of red light for night nav Other good ideas for night nav? (there was a previous discussion of lighting compasses at
