  1. 1 or two spaces have opened up for this trip. If you're interested in attending, email me at cathy folster at Verizon dot net.
  2. Just giving this a bump, so everyone remembers to get it on their schedule! Monday, September 22nd 6-9pm at the Gould Barn in Topsfield, MA
  3. I'll be there - car camping, yeay!
  4. Congratulations on getting the cool decal!
  5. This event has been scheduled - see updated original posting above!!
  6. Thank you everyone for complete the doodle poll to find the time that works for most for the presentation. It was very close between the 16th and the 22nd, but the 22nd won by a hair. I know that will mean a number of folks cannot attend, but that is the case with all of these types of things. Perhaps the discussion will continue on this thread and folks can continue to learn of their adventure online. So, the date is chosen - Monday September 22nd - 6pm at the Gould Barn in Topsfield, MA. Mark your calendars. I will post this to the Trips/Events board . . .
  7. UPDATE: Scheduled for Monday September 22, 6-9pm The Gould Barn - 1 Howlett Street, Topsfield, MA Potluck dinner - please bring an appetizer, entrée or dessert to share with the group. The club will provide paper products and utensils. I am bringing some water (in bottles), juice and diet soda left over from the last NSPN event, but folks should bring their own drink if those don't suffice. Warren and Dave have agreed to do a presentation and question/answer regarding their recent paddling trip in Alaska's Prince William Sound. This is a great opportunity to find out what they learned about longer expeditions in remote areas and to relive this incredible journey with them. We will start with a potluck dinner followed by a presentation and question and answer session. Looking forward to seeing everyone at this event and hearing their story! And I should add a thank you to Dave Merriman for suggesting this excellent idea!
  8. I am headed up to Boothbay this weekend and would like to see if anyone is interested in paddling on Saturday August 2nd. Ideally, I'd like 3 people (including me) to do the trip. Might also be able to paddle on Sunday 8/3 if there is interest. L3 or possibly L2 paddle.
  9. As alluded to earlier, we are planning a potluck dinner and presentation so everyone can see the slides up close and get a chance to live this adventure again through Warren and Dave's presentation. Due to schedules, it looks like it won't be until September. To ensure that we choose a day that works for most, below is a link to a doodle poll to assess availability. I will also post this as an event on the trips forum. https://doodle.com/ue4s5cen3xk8ub8t Please indicated for each day/time offered whether you can make it. Once we have a good number of responses, we'll choose the day that works for the most people. Looking forward to this club get-together and hearing their tales from PWS!
  10. UPDATED: - Trip is filled! Space has opened up This will be a trip to play in the currents at the entrance to Little Harbor in Cohasset. It is limited to 8 people (due to parking and play time) and there are 6 attending (Andy, Beth S, Me, Pru, Dan F, Robert V). Plan is to play in the flood, have lunch and play in the ebb. It makes for a long (but fun) day! Launch around 9, return around 4 (exact timing tbd). Email me at cathy folster at verizon dot net if interested.
  11. Janice Cotton introduced me to rice ramen - Comes in a couple different 'flavors'. I like the black rice because the noodles come out purple. The bricks of noodles are a good portion for one person with some sort of topping/accompaniment. http://www.lotusfoods.com/Rice-Ramen/c/LotusFoods@Ramen -- can buy at whole foods
  12. I'd like to pick up this conversation again . . . I have had trouble with a reaction to the seam glue in NRS wetsuits and want to switch to something else. I only wear a wetsuit for a short time in the shoulder seasons or the pool, so had a 3mm farmer john. It worked well for approx. 60 degree water. There don't seem to be very many manufacturers of 3mm wetsuits in short sleeve or farmer john with taped seams, so I'm also looking at Reed Aquatherm. Does anyone know of a correlation/comparison of Aquatherm to mm thickness in wetsuits? Thanks!
  13. Wish I could attend - but instead a note from the bathroom expert . . . I always use the Market Basket bathroom at the intersection of 1 and Peverly Hill/Elwin Road. Good place to grab a snack too, but easy to walk in and out anonymously if you just want to use the bathroom.
  14. Warren and Dave, Enjoy this trip of a lifetime! We are all excited for you and already waiting for the trip report. Safe travels and happy paddling. Cathy
  15. Friday Boston Fireworks have been moved to tomorrow night - Thursday!!! Storrow closes at 12 and mass ave bridge closes at 6pm.
  16. If you guys think this will be a regular thing - take a few pics that I can use on the website and I'll make you a banner!
  17. I will play follow the leader . . . count me in.
  18. is this the quickrelease you're looking for: http://www.outdoorplay.com/North-Water-Quick-Release-Sea-Link-Kayak-Tow-Line?utm_medium=shoppingengine&utm_source=shopzilla Looks like it only goes to 15ft. I have this NRS - and feel the bag opening is just a tad too small to work with when trying to stuff back in quickly: http://www.nrs.com/product/1829/nrs-kayak-tow-line But overall, I'm happy with the belt quality and compactness. They do make a pro model with a larger opening: http://www.outdoorplay.com/Pro-Kayak-Tow-Line?utm_medium=shoppingengine&utm_source=shopzilla
  19. It was a great day - we had 34 people show up for this paddle! It was great to see old faces and new! The Rocks crew had a great paddle. I would like to thank all of them for their encouragement to help me through the rocks - and to Andy and Dan for rescuing me. It was a silly little flip over in almost no conditions, but was my first in rocks. Here's some pics - I'm hoping Doug posts his as they're sure to be better!! Till next year . . .
  20. I have two coolers full of water and juice from the NTSKW - will bring them nice and cold on ice. Also have boxes of granola bars from same event I will pass out for snacks before the paddle. Will bring my usual oriental chicken salad.
