  1. Hey Sal... I'll be joining you after all and will be there an hour early to putter around. Should be fun in the wind. Doug
  2. Carl, your correct. "Nipple Rock" is the correct answer. Do you want to try for the $100,000 question? Since I don't have $100K, I'll let someone else ask the next question.
  3. Can anyone guess the name of this rock located somewhere in Lake Winnipesaukee? Doug
  4. I am paddling Winnipesaukee tomorrow from Weirs Beach, around a few Islands & back.. Est 12-14 miles give or take. If anyone is interested, let me know. Would probably launch around 11-11:30AM. Not much boat traffic now. I know the lake very well and can keep everyone safe. This is a last minute decision but the weather should be great further north & water temp is still 71. Doug
  5. Another great day of New England paddling. Thanks Sal, Kevin, Jon & Laura for joining me. Searching out a mix of conditions kept us bracing to our hearts content. Wonderful scenery and good friends made it a day to reflect on for a long while. Pics attached: http://www.pixel8er.net/Other/Maine/9531158_o9p2e#P-1-15 Doug "President Bush Compound" picture below....
  6. As of 10PM we have 4 paddlers plus 2 tentative responses so the trip is a "GO". See you in the morning. Doug
  7. 10-10:30 ish start. Tides seem perfect for a coastal jaunt north from Kennebunkport (Colony Beach) free parking, but limited... http://maps.google.com/maps?q=43.3471-70.4...loc=A&hl=en to Cape Porpoise & back. Beautiful rocky coastal venue past the Bush Compound north to the Cape Porpoise area islands and back. Bring a lunch. If interested, please respond here or send me a message to confirm your interest in joining us. Details or changes will be posted tonight (Friday night). Doug Sat NE winds 5 to 10 kt...becoming S in the afternoon. Seas 2 to 3 ft. High Tide 12:25PM
  8. We now have at least 3, possibly 4.
  9. If there is any interest in a Sunday Paddle at Squam Lake on Sunday, please post a reply here or send me a message. Launch by 11AM from Pipers Cove and head out through the Islands to Yard Island and back. Typically I like to save this for an October foliage paddle but given the ocean conditions this weekend, I wouldn't mind something a bit tamer as a change of pace. Could be 10-15 miles of really warm water in the low 70's. Air temp forecasted to be 75 with a 30% chance of a shower. pic of Yard Island in Sept "07"
  10. &z I love the clip of the "wave that got ya". I wondered if Emilie got a mouth full of water. She seemed to be laughing when the white water hit! Great pics too. The circular spinning cloud formation over the ocean was especially cool. See you at the surf session tonight. Doug
  11. They paddled in from the back waters.... They weren't happy to see us. The feeling was mutual. I thought this was kayak haven.
  12. Open below for circumnavigation of Gerrish Island 8/22. Dodging the storms! Bill Harter "Tempest 170", Paul Santos "Boreal Design Baffin" and Me (Doug Mogill) "Cetus" A really cool & eerie trip. http://www.pixel8er.net/Other/BraveboatPre...627663263_Y4ZmD
  13. Yes, it is truly a herd. I expect quite a few no-shows due to the weather and people will be leaving from 2-3 locations so the group or herd will doubtfully come together at any one point. I was thinking of going out of Fort Foster even though it does not open gates until 10AM but that is OK with me. I'll be in line at 9:30AM. Still have the whole day ahead. I would anticipate 10 boats at most from that location and would love to have you join us. I plan to play in the rollers or whatever comes into Braveboat and depending on the sea conditions may take a handful around the ocean side of Gerrish toward Kittery Point. 9 of 10 people in the NE Seacoast group will head back down the Creek. Don't let the numbers put you off. There are actually 5 trip organizers that will be heading out with the group. That's my plan.
  14. Thank to all that showed up, 11 in total. Hot summer day with warm water and a light breeze. Headed to Casco Bay. Sea ya... Doug see pics below... http://pixel8er.smugmug.com/gallery/929237...66_WNCAz#P-1-15
  15. Looks like a great day ahead. See you all on the water in the AM. I'll have my radio on ch72 for any late arrivals that may need to catch up. Doug
  16. LANES COVE launch at 10AM Saturday. Moderate paced paddle towards Rockport, Straitsmouth Island etc. In & out of most coves to play a bit in the rocks & swells. Swing into Rockport and or out to The Little Salvages. Bring food for lunch at a location we will decide as a group. Please post interest and ideas below or send me an e-mail so I know how many people to expect. Lo tide around 12:18PM. See you on the water. (CAM trip) Doug
  17. NEW casual trip posted from LANES COVE to Straitsmouth. "moved to new topic"...
  18. Thanks for all the information above. Now this is starting to sound difficult. I knew there had to be a good reason I never paddled in that neck of the woods. Possibly not the best of options this time of year with the crowds and mud is just, well....you know....mud! I'm open for anything... Possibly York to Brave Boat Harbor could be OK. Or lets do a complete switch-a-roo and consider Lanes Cove toward Rockport. I'm game for anything. There is Essex Bay but not sure of the green heads.
  19. Kennebunkport to Biddeford Pool... I'm thinking of this destination if there is interest for Saturday the 15th. Anyone with prior experience paddling in this area would be a welcomed addition as I have never navigated this route in the past. Hi tide is 6:30AM in Kennebunkport. Not sure of the best put-in. Advice is appreciated. Please post possible interest and ideas to see what may evolve. Doug
  20. Open below to view pics of the SMSKN Casco Bay trip from Saturday 8/8. Trip total 17 miles. A group of 14 of us ventured off to explore the waters from Orr's Island, (located at the H2O Outfitters location) through Willis Gut. Then we paddled by Cedar Ledges to the translucent waters of Yarmouth Island up Quahog Bay to Snow Island. On Snow Island we were treated to ..... well check out the pics to see for yourself. Doug http://pixel8er.smugmug.com/gallery/921063...614977187_dJCrM Thanks Ed for the invite and Fred for adding additional flare to the trip. Thanks to the magical Bag Pipe player standing on the grassy knoll behind his house on Long Point Island. On our return paddle, the seas kicked up near Yarmouth Ledges. In the distance a faint drone could be detected as if beckoning the winds and the sea to be called up. For a solid mile or two the sea came alive. We were treated to his haunting wind-song as we paddled by him in an assisted rhythmic cadence. It was truly a surreal experience.....
