  1. Solution to the "hard" one from Dan: West side of Penobscot Bay, between Rockland and Camden Harbors. Dan, do you mean variation? If so, the variation on your chart is from 2018 (fairly recent), so subtracting 5' per year would be a variation of 15 degrees 50' W for 2020.
  2. Joe's Middle Ground: It's the channel North of Machias Bay heading into the Machias River. Near that area (around Holmes Bay and Birch point) are ancient petroglyphs, but I have not been able to find them.
  3. This is by far the easiest way to carry a loaded kayak with 4 people. If you are carrying on a steep hill, slide the handles under the deck lines near a deck line attachment point, otherwise the kayak may slide on the straps.
  4. Answer in white: This is the deep water on the west side of Gurnet Strait, just north of Sebascodegan Island. Due to the meeting of a few bodies of water, the currents rip through here at mid-tide. Perhaps the currents create a whirlpool that made the deep hole?
  5. I see that I need to get out more, since I don't recognize a lot of these. Here are the ones that I do (half of them): 1. Bug light, 3. Egg Rock, 4. Goose Rocks (Fox I), 5. Franklin, 9. Cutler, 13. Pemaquid Point, 14. Portland Head, 16. Whitehead, 18. Nubble, 19. (yay! extra credit) Leonardville, 20. W Quoddy Head, 21. Owls Head
  6. No, Jim, I did not know the text shows up on the activity list. I don't think I've ever looked at that. Oh, well. For those who want to play, don't look at the activity list!
  7. Very good, Dan. Clever response. That was quick. How did you know?
  8. My guesses in white: 1. Bangs 2. Cocktail Cove - Jewell 3. ? 4. Winter Harbor 5.? 6. Dix 7. Dolphin Marina 8. Enchanted 9. Umbagog launch 10. Gay Is., 11 ?, 12. Jewell, 13. Lazygut, 14. Sand Cove, Marshall Is.
  9. Oh, I like this game! Here's my little slice of heaven:
  10. HA! Answer to no. 1: southeast of Falls I, west of Denbow Neck, north of Coffins Neck. I noticed the water depth in meters, so knew it was near Canada.
  11. I know where puzzler #2 is, but I shouldn't say, right? Oh, color of text white? OK, here goes: Bar out to Bar Island.
  12. I see that David beat me too them, but, if he doesn't take all, I am also interested. Thank you, Liz. -Nancy
  13. Setting my alarm for 5:30. See you there for a 9:00 AM launch.
  14. I'm a maybe depending on weather. It's a long drive for a potentially short paddle.
  15. I just realized I am missing a small green 8-liter drybag with some clothes in it. I am pretty sure I had it when I left the island, either in my kayak or in an IKEA bag taken back on the launch. If anyone comes across it, please let me know. Thanks, Nancy
  16. If I can convince Wayne to get up at the crack of dawn, we will join you.
  17. Nice day on the water with everyone. When I didn't have a death grip on my paddle for fear that the wind would take it out of my hands, I took a few pictures. Here's a link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1HGE96McE1xUfFHzyyRNNKKG6OjOO0Qqi
  18. My kayak is on the car's roof and I expect to paddle with L3 or L4. Wayne will be coming with me, probably paddling with L4. We have all necessary equipment. Looking forward to a nice day on the water.
  19. I wish I lived closer so I could join you. It is too far for a day-trip for me. I did paddle in that area once a long time ago. I paddled from the crib bridge to Hemit Island Campground via Elm, Flag and Wood Islands. It was a nice trip across the bay with big swells coming in. I hope you'll post a trip report. I'll be in that area in July and will be looking for paddling routes/ideas. -Nancy
  20. Wayne and I will look forward to joining you.
  21. I will not be able to make it, after all. ? I had a cortisone shot in my shoulder today and can't paddle (use my shoulder) for the next 5 days. I will be out of town the following week. I'll get there eventually.
  22. This sounds like a great idea, Dan. See you on May 7th! Thank you for your planning.
  23. I just went through a bunch of photos from 4/17/16 of a trip from City Point, going with the tide out through President Roads, past the tip of Deer Island, then turning east (crossing North and South Channels) on to Calf Island. I remember the day very well and there was no boat traffic. The only boats I see in my photos are a tanker way off The Graves and a Tugboat heading out to it. Here's a picture from Calf Island looking toward Deer Island. It was a Monday. I think off season is your best bet.
