  1. Please see calendar for details. See you on the water!
  2. For those planning attending, please check back regularly for possible cancellation announcements should we end up with persistent t-storms...
  3. Hey Bill, I responded to the email that you sent...
  4. The 7th NSSS (North Shore Skills Session) will be held at Salem Willows, Friday, June 17, around 5:30. Please see the calendar for details. http://www.nspn.org/forum/index.php?app=calendar&module=calendar&cal_id=1&do=showevent&event_id=749 Depending on interest, we may have a short L2 trip in order to practice on the move. For the Willows, wheels for kayak transport are recommended.
  5. Planning on paddling out of York tomorrow. The basic plan is to ride the tide out, play for a while and ride the tide back in. This is rather last minute so please email with interest and we can work out the details.
  6. FYI, for those planning to attend, we will most likely already be on the water so look for us at Willows beach, which is located next to the pier.

  9. Bob Levine, Gillian and I are back this year with the North Shore Skills Sessions (formally the Forest River Park Sessions)! In order to take advantage of tides and conditions, we will alternate locations throughout the season (please see below for details). Also, in addition to practicing skills, we also run some L2 trips during these sessions so that we can learn on the go! Come on out to the only salt water based skills session! This week we will be at Forest River Park in Salem, MA. http://www.nspn.org/forum/index.php?app=calendar&module=calendar&cal_id=1&do=showevent&event_id=749

Individual and group practice, peer instruction, group instruction. We will try to be on the water at 5:45PM. Latecomers please feel free to join us. For those new paddlers that show up (please do!), we will do some shallow water basics first. Location will be posted the night before on the message board. If necessary, cancellations will be announced on the general message board. Forest River Park -- URL for this route is: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=945438 GPS: 42.507421,-70.884283 Forest River-Parking at the site is for Salem residents only from 9-5pm and non- residents would have to pay a fee. I've been advised by those in charge of the Park that this is the case. I would suggest (actually those in charge of the Park suggested this that people ARRIVE at 5:30 and expect the butts in boat time to be 5:45pm. We'll stay on the water until dark if so inclined. Salem Willows Park -- URL for this route is: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3776274 GPS: 42.53603,-70.867605 Salem Willows: Parking is free. Drop gear off and then park. We have extra wheels for folks if need be. ARRIVE at 5:30 and expect the butts in boat time to be 5:45pm. We'll stay on the water until dark if so inclined.
  11. Kevin, I agree with Rick. Having gone through both systems, they do indeed offer similar programs and you can find great coaches in either scheme. As Rick indicates, you can get insurance through the ACA, but it's not the only way to do it so that shouldn't be a deal breaker either way. Whatever you do, have fun with it!
  12. Please arrive closer to 5:30 as they stop charging for parking at 5pm.
  13. I second Jason's recommendation. I've used these for everything from ww boats to large tandems.
  14. Hey Gene, I won't repeat all that has been said but I agree with all of it. I led a trip out there last season and bailed on the first attempt due to conditions (paddled up the coast instead). The actual trip out there turned out to be fairly flat and windless in both directions, but I went out fully aware of the potential conditions.
  15. Very fun time indeed...here are some more pics: http://gallery.me.com/kybeckwith#100211
  16. This will be held at the Salem Willows this week: http://www.nspn.org/forum/index.php?act=ca...mp;event_id=719
  17. Salem, MA practice sessions have been added to the calendar. These sessions are open to folks at any level, so please don't hesitate to swing by. This year they will be held at either Salem Willows or Forest River (directions to both on calendar) depending on what folks want to do. The great thing about the location is that we have flat water as well as bumpy water for surf and rocks. So, bring your gear, your kayak, and your smile down to Salem on Friday nights. Note, if the spirit moves the group, the PPPO's in Salem are amazing

  19. LOL, "*&^$%*" = David and there were 9 folks attending...David, Marcia, Michelle, Frank, Audra, Patrick, Jackie, Neil and Amy:) I can definitely confirm David's huge smile on his first successful roll!
  20. 5 folks in the group set off counterclockwise around Gerrish at 10:30am. A little bit of wind pushing us along and then pushing against us for most of the way. Estimated sustained 15-20kt with gusts to 25. Not much else in the way of conditions as we made for Braveboat for a bit of a break. Followed the creek back at a nice relaxing pace. Many thanks to Glenn, Phil, Bob, and Doug for joining the trip.
  21. Nor'easter brought 2-5ft surf to Nahant today. Short period but spilling with some very nice rides. Great to play with friends in the surf and to meet new ones.
  22. There are still a few spots left, so don't wait to sign up! For those that emailed me at my nspn address, I only just replied as my forwarding rule from that address was no longer working and that fact just came to light.
  23. QUOTE (Kevin B @ May 18 2010, 09:01 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Anyone interested in grabbing some surf in Nahant on Wed.? Plan on late afternoon, say 4/5pm. I'm shooting for 4:30 at Kings Beach. All are welcome.
  24. Mark, Depending on the size of the event, I might be able to find space at Salem State. Let me know.
