  1. I have one, it seems to work well, got it at the Bar Harbor Symposium. Lot's of folks up there were using them. But I guess the proof is in the pudding. Here's hoping I never have to prove it's effectiveness. Really not that expensive when compared to the cost of mini flares and HazMat shipping. I have the $100.00 one from this site. I also carry the mini flares mentioned above.
  2. Be aware that there is a significant HazMat shipping charge (i think somewhere around $40.00). So, the best option is to try to find them locally, or get several people to go in together and order a bunch of them and share the shipping charge.
  3. Pats don't play till tomorrow night.
  4. Well, I took the image and optimized it for the web, and now it's working fine. I'm stumped....for now...
  5. Well...it seems to have something to do with that particular image. My previous image is working fine. ???
  6. HMMMMM...I am also seeing the problem on my PC with IE. I do not have any problem on the MAC with Safari. I'll see if I can find an answer.
  7. Gould Barn, Topsfield, MA 6 pm at the beginning of the Holiday Party Directions to Gould Barn: From the south, take Rt. 1 north exit off of Route I-95. Follow that to Rt. 97 west into Topsfield. At the stop sign, the library will be on your left and a small side street immediately before the stop sign is on your right - that is East Common Street . Take a right onto this street and park in the lot on the right that is for the Emerson Center/Congregational Church. From the north, take I-95 south to the Topsfield Rt. 97 exit. Proceed to Congregational Church on the right and Town Common on the left. Make a left turn onto Route 97 East, for 1/2 a second and then take a SHARP left onto East Common St and park in the lot on the right that is for the Emerson Center/Congregational Church. There is some parking on the street or at the far left end of the church lot closest to the Barn.

  9. The solution is actually quite easy. Always...always..every time, either do a roll, or stick your head in the water at the launch. It will help to condition you to the water temp, educate you as to the effectiveness of your cold water gear and in the event of an unforeseen capsize, your body will be better prepared and minimize the shock.
  10. No Problem Gay. One thing to keep in mind, Columbus day weekend is the last weekend they are open and generally not very crowded, so, they may enforce their rules more during peak season. Just thinking out loud here.
  11. They do still have a no dog policy, but apparently they do not enforce it. I was there on Columbus day weekend and there were as many dogs as there were people.
  12. Yup, I was glad to choose the easier waves yesterday. They were nice, with lots of green and long rides. Sometimes, the biggest waves are not always the best waves.
  13. Yes, Big Congratulations...and a big hug. (I always wanted to hug a hot kayak babe)
  14. Yup, throw a tarp over it. Don't wrap it so tight that condensation will accumulate and not escape, just cover it to keep it from getting too much exposure.

  16. I almost never use my skeg, especially when in confused water or current. Boat control should be managed by strokes and edging. The only time I do use my skeg as Ed has said is on crossings where I am too lazy or tired to deal with weather cocking. Now, the other part of the equation is, what works best for you in your boat. Some have said that having a little bit of skeg down in their Pintail improves overall performance. I have a Pintail and don't see the need for any skeg, but that is my preference. I would do some experimenting, try the same section of water several times with varying degrees of skeg deployment and decide for yourself what works best for you and your boat.
