prudenceb Posted December 27, 2023 Share Posted December 27, 2023 (edited) I'm gratified by all the interest shown in welcoming in the New Year with what will be the 4th Annual such NSPN trip (including New Years Eve Day paddles, required when weather wouldn't cooperate for January 1) in the Boston Inner Harbor. Barring a drastic change in the weather, the trip is on for New Years Day! We will meet at the all tide ramp at the Little Mystic River boat ramp in Charlestown by 10 am at the latest; earlier if you know you're someone who needs more time to get organized. We will plan to launch at 10:30. It will be January, so by definition a cold water paddle, so everyone will be required to be wearing a drysuit and sprayskirt (as well as other usual gear such as pfd). While the water is generally very calm where we'll be paddling, everyone needs to be dressed for immersion. Boats need decklines and bulkheads. If you have a marine radio, pls bring it. We will paddle down the Little Mystic and under the Tobin Bridge, then turn right and paddle along the docks and piers, past the USS Constitutiion and the TD Garden and ultimately the Harbor Walk, where we'll have a chance to give New Years greetings to folks strolling on land. We'll likely paddle a leisurely 8-10 nm and be off the water by mid afternoon, well before it gets dark. (If the forecast changes dramatically, there is the option to switch the paddle to New Years Eve day, but at this point that doesn't look likely.)
