gyork Posted June 15, 2021 Posted June 15, 2021 What I most worry about while on the water in summer is a fast-moving unanticipated (at launch-tsk, tsk) weather cell with strong gusts, and potential hail/lightning. I have experienced 2 such events in the past, the first announced as an automatic weather alert on my VHF, the other caught me with my paddling pants down. I like using the future-cast feature, if available. What is your favorite radar app that you'd recommend for my cell phone please? gary Quote
josko Posted June 16, 2021 Posted June 16, 2021 (edited) Just looking up at the sky can be helpful, too. I make it a point to ask folks on the water about the weather, environment, etc, and am a bit dismayed at how often they pull out their cellphone to answer questions like 'Which way is current going now?', or 'Is that thunderhead likely to hit us?' mattdrayer Posted June 17, 2021 Posted June 17, 2021 For planning ahead I use Windfinder and for real-time radar visualizations I like MyRadar. I am currently running an iPhone 6s. Matt Quote
mbhazeltine Posted June 20, 2021 Posted June 20, 2021 I like weather bug - It does a nice job of showing where the lightning strikes are and where the cell is moving - not perfect but my go to app Quote
glad Posted June 22, 2021 Posted June 22, 2021 I love Windy.com. Along with wind, gusts, wave ht and direction (and a huge number of other useful info), it has a radar feature with lightening strikes which slightly vibrate the phone which is added fun. Quote
