josko
Getting a little concerned about heels wearing holes in deck. What's a good way to prevent this and repair the damage already done?
mhabich
Prevention: look up HeelEazy. Patches of the same self-adhesive material used in KeelEazy stick-on keel strips.
jason
Adding more glass as it starts to wear, is my fix. I will need to add more to my boat this winter. I like using the tape for jobs like this: https://www.jamestowndistributors.com/userportal/show_product.do?pid=2075
Phil Allen
I've used Jason's approach, but used epoxy resin over the tape and existing cloth. It seems more resistant to abrasion (N= my boat). Phil

Pintail
I assume that Josko meant wearing out the <hull> and not the deck? He surely ought to know the difference by now...? Edited August 17, 2017 by Pintail
Michael_Crouse
Someone, maybe kayakfit.com, sold foam called thin skinz. It was thin and durable, perfect for glueing to the inside of your hull. btw. I've worn through the heel of booties that didn't have a rubber cap, so I feel your pain. gyork
I use a transparent, thin plastic sheet that is sold as a cutting board at JobLot and the like.
BethS
I just slap a coat of West system epoxy on every year on the worn spots, and the epoxy seems to resist wear better than the fiberglass did.
Brian Nystrom
If you happen to have any Cabosil (fumed silica) on hand, add it to the epoxy until it's thick enough that it doesn't flow. It makes it VERY abrasion resistance and you can apply it thicker than epoxy alone.
