Wellfleet launch sites

There is a town landing that I usually use right after the Herring River on the left side of Chequessett Neck Road. It's only a 5 minute drive from the Wellfleet town pier. This is a very protected area for your rec boat. If conditions are fine, you may want to venture out further into the harbor.

Hight tide will be an important factor since it will limit the amount of cars which can park at this dirt lot.

jFor the Herring River put-in. Don't park close to the water but closer to the logs in the lot.

PS- this area is very tide dependent. Plan on at least 1-2 hours off of low ( and remember that the tide is later in this estuary). Otherwise you will be draggin your boat over commercial oyster beds. Nasty, sharp shells eat up your feet, shoes and the shellfisher persons have a fit.

If you've a mind to paddle out to Jeremy Point, Powers Landing is your best bet for a put in:

DIRECTIONS TO

POWERS LANDING IN WELLFLEET

Take Rt. 6 east to the intersection of Main St. in Wellfleet. Turn left onto Main St. There is a light at the intersection and a sign that reads “Wellfleet Center and Harbor.”

Follow Main St. about an 1/8th of a mile to East Commercial Street, turn left. There is a pale green book store called “Herridge Books” on the right, opposite East Commercial Street.

Follow East Commercial (which becomes Commercial) a mile or so (past the Book Store Restaurant) to Powers Landing on the left. The sign for Powers Landing is small and green and easy to miss. Watch carefully. It’s opposite a larger, diamond shaped yellow sign that says “Slow, Caution”.
