  1. Warren, I find it impossible for me to let sleeping bears lay.... At the Paddlesport show a few weekends ago I attended a lecture by a woman who has paddled extensively in Alaska. Her advice was if you are going to shoot at a bear (mind you, she wasn't advocating shooting at the bear) that one should shoot the GROUND in front of the bear and that would scare s/he away. Hope that's helpful and that you come back safe and sound and the bear population did not decrease,
  2. Yes, it was wonderful! Many thanks to those that gave up one of the few nice days we have seen in a while to educate us.
  3. Good News! I am happy for you; do we know this 5th person?
  4. Hmmm.... what does "organizer" involve? I would consider being a "co-organizer"...
  5. So... it sounds as though you are going to go to the bear's home, go into his/her living room, set up camp and then shoot the bear if it is uncomfortable with you being in his/her home, is that accurate?

  7. Warren, You will be needing to edit your "Interests" before too long. :-)
  8. Thanks Bill, I got distracted by football of all things! Perhaps another time.
  9. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't, I never put the safety strap on but I do use the clip and it has never come loose. I use it mostly for weather concerns.
  10. Thanks, Cath, I would appreciate that info. Feel free to PM me
  11. Joyce, Many congratulations to you on this accomplishment! Looking forward to paddling with you,
  12. The exercise sounds good to me. I will have a compass and chart/s but not the other items.
  13. Thanks, Spider ~ that's plenty enough detail, I'll look forward to hearing about your trip. Kate, thanks so much the link, great rip report. The trip is a definite!
  14. Thanks for all the info. Les, very good thing to know especially about the pie :-). The condo sounds interesting. Spider ~ what outfitter did you use? My initial thought was to do a one-day guided trip and then explore on our own the rest of the days with maybe some hiking and pie eating thrown in for good measure. Ed, yes, I thought SMSKN did a trip, I looked on their calendar, it was empty, I will probably reach out to them. Michael, have not determined length of stay but with the drive (my map says 9hours 26 minutes, not including breaks) ... I don't know maybe three full days there?? And... I don't think I can make it happen this summer but it will happen the summer of 2015 (wow, that's scary), I think it'll make a great 55th birthday celebration, which is in August, see Les's #12. See, Warren isn't NSPN's only long-term planner. :-) All of the info is very helpful ~ thanks so much!
  15. Hello all, Has anyone taken a trip to Canada to paddle the St Lawrence to see all of the whales and other wildlife? Did you enjoy it? What would you do differently?
  16. Anybody care to share their favorite make and model handheld compass? Thanks,
  17. More & better! Lorrie, I'm in for standing waves!
