  1. Kennebunkport, Colony Beach to Cape Porpoise, NEW DATE: SUNDAY 6/9 Arrive no later than 10AM to be guaranteed a parking space. This is free parking but the lot fills up fast. RAIN DATE: We HAVE moved this paddle to SUNDAY. Less chance of rain, calmer seas and more favorable winds. We will still need to keep an eye on the weather. Launch at 11AM and head north past the Bush Compound to the Lighthouse at Cape Porpoise where we can break for lunch. Rock play a given so bring helmets. High Tide 12:48 PM See pics of the 2010 trip: http://www.pixel8er.net/Other/Kennebunkport-to-Cape-Porpoise/13000178_xfpCG#940825498_fL5kN Proposed Trip Tic: URL for this route is: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=4507695 Doug
  2. So much hype, so little success. We must have scoped out 4+ miles of shoreline on our 9 mile casual paddle during Saturdays high tide paying particular attention to grassy areas. We had no success in locating a single creepy crusty critter other than 2 dried out carcasses one of which Bill felt necessary to dawn like a gladiators helmet. Quite the spectacle I must say, so many laughs all day. All in all a great day and it's success was measured by the good time shared with old friends and new kicking off a new paddling season. Off to Casco Bay on Saturday. PM me if your interested in joining our motley crew. Doug wild bill
  3. Great trip report! This year really seems to be off to a slow start but not for the two of you. Nice that you were able to share what seemed to be a great weekend paddling. Perdy new boat Rob! It suits you. Doug
  4. There are 6 of us signed up for this paddle. I'd like to limit it to 10. If your interested in joining us, please PM me or post interest below. Thanks Doug

The isolation of Great Bay will help protect us from the wind on much of the paddle.ADAMS POINT: https://maps.google.com/maps?client=safari&oe=UTF-8&q=Adams+Point+NH&ie=UTF-8&hq=&hnear=0x89e294dc255dd1bd:0xaeae965df19b519,Adams+Point&gl=us&ei=fsqgUf2sGKXf0QHXz4DgBg&ve... Directions to Adams Point: *Take Route 108 to Bay Road in Newmarket. * Turn onto Bay and follow it for about four miles. Watch for the entrance of Adams Point, just after the small bridge over Crommet Creek. There is a sign for Jackson Labs Facility - part of UNH - at that entrance. Or, on Route 108 in Durham, turn onto Durham Point Road. Watch for the entrance of Adams Point on the left a few hundred yards after passing Dame Road on the right. There is additional parking at the top of the hill after the boat ramp.
  6. I thought you owned 3 boats?
  7. I agree Ed. Especially appropriate when setting a specific heading in wind and current to maintain a course without unnecessary corrective paddling efforts. I don't get it why people make comments shunning the use of a skeg. If it makes them feel superior to us skeg users I simply have to dismiss their comments and place them in the "stupid file"! All boats and paddlers differ in design and skill levels. Skegs are there for a reason and I never met anyone that special ordered a boat without a skeg.
  8. Adams Point is a great place to launch and see the little critters bumbin around. Next weekend should be optimal but its hit or miss as far as peak. Saturday the 25th will be a 12:09 high tide in Portsmouth, and later in Great Bay. Not sure of the lag time. I've always enjoyed that trip. If I wasn't in Maine that weekend, I'd join you. Doug
  9. Is this it? http://www.qualitynylonrope.com/p/SR316ReflectiveRopeB.htmlI couldn't find exactly what you described. Is this t he bungee cord needed? It's a tiny bit thicker but couldn't find 3/16's, only 7/32's. http://www.qualitynylonrope.com/p/SR7ReflectiveBungee.html Doug
  10. Joel at New England Small Craft in Rowley used to have everything you needed. He even carried reflective deck line. Give him a call. Not sure if he still carries it since his move. Doug
  11. Yes, the store is closed for online purchases but we have lots of stock divvied up between 2 or 3 Board members. I believe Blaine has some and perhaps Bob.
  12. "Duck tape" or "duct tape", of course. Can be used to cover holes, cracks and lost hatch covers. Doug
  13. Todd, I can't PM you. Send me your email address. DougatNEBM.net Doug
  14. TRIP UPDATE: Friday 9am Rye Harbor to Jenness Beach is only 1.5 miles so we will most likely paddle down to N. Hampton if the group is in agreement. This will make the total round trip 8 miles give or take. Swell reduced to 2.5 ft. I'm guessing there will be 2-2.5 ft clean surf with 5 mph winds out of the south. This means very calm conditions out there. I'd call this an L2-L3 trip by normal ratings but the cold water factor, basic trip safety knowledge and rescue ability lifts it to L3. This will be an excellent day for those of us that haven't been out in a while. Dry suits or equivalent required. The plan is to stop for refreshments at some point where and when the group decides. This will be a CAM format with beach briefing at 11am at our boats ready to go. Launch Location: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=5198227 Doug
  15. Rye Harbor south to Jenness Beach & N. Hampton "Time to get the kinks out." Saturday, April 27th 11:00 am Launch Back by 3:00 or 4:00 (keeping it open). 3 foot swell expected with 2-3 foot surf High Tide around 1:00 pm Paddle at a moderate pace, no speed records. Post interest or PM me if you prefer. More information to follow. Doug
  16. Hi Christropher, I have added ClearMask Aeroguard film on my last 3 kayaks in strategic areas of my boat. It isn't cheap but its strong and virtually invisible. I usually purchase one roll per boat of 6 inch wide by 10 feet long Aeorguard. Costs $38.50 plus $10 shipping. I always wish I had a roll and a half. Next boat will. http://www.clearmask.com/aerogard.php I assume prices are the same but its been a year and a half since I purchased it.
  17. Thanks for offering your spot for free. You need to be a member to PM other members.Doug
  18. I'm sure Leon will chime in shortly on this one but I believe a rough un-waxed hull will make the boat go faster. Something to do with a porous or scratched hull encapsulating air molecules which create less friction against the water or something like that. Let the barrage of responses begin!
  19. It's my son's 21st birthday. Catch ya all next time. Doug
  20. I just noticed if you go to the calendar, you can RSVP there, similar to the way it's done on "Meetup". Nice addition to our website. Doug
  21. I'd like to help out but won't be able to commit to a date until the week before. Do you know if they have a MITA tent or can they promote MITA from under our NSPN tent? I don't think we have actually used it yet. Doug
