  1. Katherine, I'd love to join you on the 10th. My earlier post did not make it to the board (??). Is there still room? What put-in are you using? Is it the parking lot/boat ramp on the river just before entering odiorne park proper? Thanks, Shari ooops...just saw page 2 on the posts.... all set!!
  2. Katherine, is the Odiorne Point launch the one on the river with the boat ramp, before you actually enter the state park? Shari
  3. Katherine, I'd love to join you! I live in Wenham MA if anyone wants to carpool or meet (should that be necessary). Shari
  4. I'm in but no helmet, so i will pass on rock play and surf practice (more time to lunch on the beach).
  5. Doug,I'd love to do the Sunday March 4th 3-6p sesson (#9). Checck in the mail. Shari
  6. Hi Chuck, I am paddling an Atlantic LV. I am 5'9" & 150lbs and the boat fits me beautifully. I have had it for one year and it has pushed my skill level (i previously paddled a wilderness system shenai- 17'5"). The Atlantic LV is maneuverable and responsive and corrects easily. I find that it tracks well, although I am still struggling a bit with a beam sea. It is fairly quick in chop and handles surf well (better than me, in fact). It rolls pretty easily as well. One review I have reads: "'It held its own in the choppy waters [of Mexico]", 'noting its hyper-responsive characteristics compared to a Necky Chatham 16.' "It turns much better, and as soon as you cranked it over it'd go, regardless of whether you were on top of a wave or in its trough. But in terms of holding the edge while turning, you need to have the active blade all the time- quite good for a proficient paddler, maybe not, if you're not so comfortable out there." and "With a noticeable decrease in volume from North Shores's popular Atlantic, the clean and solidly built LV was well-suited to our testers under 170 lbs, most so to advanced paddlers, who praised the surfing and play abilities of its semi-planing hull." Hope that helps! let me know if you have any other questions.
  7. Bob, I hoped to have joined you tonight but family matters have come up. Have fun! Hope to get there soon.
  8. Sadly, I will not be free to join you after all! Have fun!
  9. I am most likely as well. I will confirm later today.
  10. with all due respect, are people trying to discredit our reports of wave heights and conditions? the idea of a trip report is to give an overview of events for other paddlers to offer constructive thoughts and perhaps learn vicariously through errors that may have been made. our posting was done in good faith. having boated since i was in diapers, i can assure you that the waves were clearly over 3 or 4 ft for nearly the entire paddle back from IOS. for the record, I believe our group has correctly estimated waves consistently in the 5-6 range, with a few larger. signed, the swimmer
  11. We'll shoot for another day in the future! maybe I'll even tackle the surf myself!
  12. No photos to share, but four of us had a fun day. Conditions relatively calm considering Hurricane Earl was predicted to head our way in 24- 48 hrs. seas 1-3 ft with SW winds 10- 15 most of day. Headed out from Goose Rocks Beach KPT, around Cape Porpoise Islands, then south along the coast (passing the infamous Walker Point/Bush Estate). Navigated up the Kennebunk River then returned via a similar route allowing a bit of island exploring (and hull scratching) around Cape Porpoise. Some swells and surf play for a couple of us. GPS route 15/16 miles. Great meeting everyone! Happy to do it again some time!!
  13. Great. We will see if things continue as predicted. The morning is definately calmer. If need be we can always circle back to goose rocks.... if very rough there is a sheltered alternative in biddeford on saco river into biddeford islands. 219 is white house on left of shared drive. 4 issues my cell is 781 718 8861
  14. Great! We'll continue to watch the weather. I will definate consider doing this trip again in the Fall or Spring for those who can't make it.
  15. I am the trip initiator but not necessarily the leader. Gene C. will be joining me. If you can escape to southern Maine, please meet us at Goose Rocks Beach, Kennebunkport at #219 Kings Highway at 10am. From there we can head around the outside of Cape Porpoise islands/lighthouse and down the coast toward the Kennebunk River (entering or not). We will pass the Bush estate. We can circle back up the coast, and enter Cape Porpoise Harbor after LT and can explore the islands at our leisure/have lunch (also a lunch spot right in the harbor... haddock sandwiches and the like). Beyond that, we can head north of Goose Rocks Beach toward Biddeford, but I anticipate the swells and chop will be greater up that way.... we can see. mileage pending group decision; likely 10-12 miles. I would prefer to keep things a L2+ or mellow L3.... at least for me. Others are free to rock play etc. NOAA graphical marine forecast is showing 2' wave height west to sw, winds under 10 and gusts the same .
  16. Sound great. I am a definate yes.
  17. Hi gene, I would love 2 join in. Shari
  18. Leslie, I am interested, althought the 26 and 27th won't work for me. Any takers on a weekday paddle? Shari
