  1. We could put in at either Pierce island or Goat island.

    Jon

Is Odiorne not accessible because of the parking lot not being plowed? We were there a couple of weeks ago and parked on the road. I think there some space on the put in also. Ross

  2. QUOTE(B @ Jan 8 2009, 02:42 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Crescent Beach Washington that is ;) Sat and Sun. Be there.

Bob I'm sorry to say that your paddle has been canceled and relocated to the Eastern Seaboard. Odiorne Point on Sat @ 10:00 to be precise. The tides and conditions weren't optimal for us to head all the way to the west coast so we canceled our chartered jet. No sense flying out there just for a few small waves. Besides we were having a little difficulty with the roof rack (the pilot was clammering on about the drag). We'll be expecting to see you and Alex. And the after paddle Guinness is on me! See ya then! Ross :P

  3. Looks like it might be cold so we will keep it local giving us the opportunity to call it at the put in, head back early or stay out and then warm after with a cool frothy pint of dark stout (or soda). 10:00 @ Odiorne point (by the bridge). Ross

  4. So is there interest in sticking around here for a paddle? What are the preferences. Bob ur still interested in C.P.? Looks like a few of us are on the Face Book site (thanks Cathy) so we could actually I.M. each other to come up with a set plan. I'll check @ around 8 tonight Ross

  5. Paddling around Cape Porpoise is rather tide dependent in some respects. My impression is the tides are not all that favorable this weekend, but others may feel differently.

I'm OK with staying round here. Maybe take advantage of the fact that we can park and launch at beaches that are usually off limits in the summer time. Plum Island etc. i would enjoy a paddle along the shore. Ross

  6. Ok lets keep our eyes on the weather and see what the temps are like, we can plan and call it off if needed on Friday night. Perhaps we can plan something closer and do a shorter paddle. I'm open to ideas. I do want to check out Cape Porp. but I am hesitant to drive all the way up there for a shorter paddle or to have to call it off at the put in. Lets all be flexible and keep kicking around ideas. Ross

BTW I am also thinking about heading out Sunday so we can plan for that day also.

  7. My preference is Cape Porpoise. Launch from Ocean Ave beach. Wave at Bush Sr. as we pass by. Never mind the scowling members of the secret service.

Sure lets give it another try. Perhaps we can get Mr. Bush to join us. Either day works for me. How about the crew from last weekends non trip? Jon, Ed, Gerry, Cathy, Bill..you guys still interested? Anyone else? Ross

  8. I'm free! Lets keep an eye on the weather and make a decision about where to go. If weather is questionable then perhaps stay close. If forecast is excellent then perhaps we can journey. I am still interested in Cape Porpoise but only if it is not too cold and windy. Merrimac is frozen. I wouldn't mind staying closer just to get out and get some exercise. Perhaps a paddle along the shoreline. Post if you have any ideas or interest. Ross

  9. Ed

    I'll be there!

    Gerry

Hey folks, unfortunately I won't be able to make the trip tomorrow. Here in NY visiting with family and need to stay a little longer. I will be around next weekend and I am hoping to get out on both days I will post for that. Hope the weather holds up. Ross

  10. Gets my vote. If conditions are ugly, then launch from Cape Porpoise and wamder about going outside as folks wish.. If conditions good, launch from Kennebunkport perhaps and enjoy all those ledges up to Cape Porpoise, wander about, and run back down on the falling tide.

My 2009 TideLog suggest tides are good early that weekend for a relaxed launch time.

    Ed Lawson

Sounds great! I would love to explore that area. Lets post that and see who we can round up for a trip. Ross

  11. Any interest in a paddle on he Merrimack tomorrow? Not too long but just to get out. Pete and I may head up river from Amesbury (weather depending of course). Just a safe paddle along the banks. (probably around 11:00) Ross

The ice flows begin and the Merrimack become non-navigable (at least for now)

  12. I'm dug out...mostly and since Peirce is in my backyard I plan to head over and decide then. Parking may be an issue if they have'nt plowed the area yet. I'll be there 9:30-45

    Gerry

Parking and also wind chill hovering near zero give call though. Ross

(just of the phone with Gerry and the trip has been cancelled due to Arctic like sub zero winds)

  13. you guys can have all the discussion you want about the weather....like Bill I look at many reports.....bottom line....if at the breakwater at Little Harbor...I don't feel comfortable going out....I'm not going...but won't stop anyone who decides they want to. I'll be at the launch and ready to paddle at 10:00.

I spoke with Peter, he and I will meet you there at 10:00. Ross

  14. Bingo!

    Ed Lawson

Anyone up for x-country skiing instead? I will continue to check the posts for the go ahead. I am still interested in heading out of course only we there are more than two of us. I'll ready my kayaking gear but I will also be bringing out my skis in case the sea conditions are not safe. I am concerned, of course, about the cold wind even in the protected areas. My number is 914-489-2673 if we want to do a phone chain tomorrow morning for any last minute decisions. Ross Ed thanks for the informative info. it is quite useful.

Its looking pretty white out there.

  15. To forestall a potential discourse from Sir. Christopher concerning the mutilation of his language caused by the disappearance of the singular second person pronoun and the idioms created by ignorant folk, may I comment the contraction "y'all" is perfectly fine linguistically, but gently suggest the correct spelling is y'all. On the other hand, I am impressed you used it properly as many fail to do so.

    Ed Lawson

Who needed a diversion from shoveling snow

Ed, well whatever "the disappearance of the singular second person pronoun" means, Peter and I are still planning on joining you'se guys on Saturday. The question that I prithie to thee, and thy blithe olde fere Sir Christopher of Gloucester, Hast thou also decided upon joining? Ross

  16. I'm interested, depending on how weather plays out. Don't want to fight a lot of wind. 10:00am Sat. is my preference-- can't do Sunday.

Hey folks! Ross here. Peter and I are planning on joining ya'all on Saturday. We don't have to be off the water so early so we may stay out a little longer. (perhaps till 3:30) I'll continue to check the status of the trip. Hopefully the weather holds. Looking forward Ross

  17. Oh and folks not to worry, we were playin’ it safe…. two of us dressed for immersion with all the requisite gear (plus some to spare) and never more than a few minutes from the put in or at least an alternate. Definitely important to be close (i.e. a quick walking distance) to the cars when practicing skills in colder waters. Lets everyone keep these thing in mind as the weather gets colder. Ross
